- Thousands of demonstrators have rallied in Tbilisi in another night of protest against a 'foreign influence bill'. Critics liken the bill to one introduced in Russia by Vladimir Putin, which they say has been used to suppress dissent.
Up to 50,000 protesters marched through the Georgian capital, calling on the government of the former Soviet republic to withdraw the draft legislation.
The ruling Georgian Dream party is currently forcing the legislation through parliament, despite months of protest. Last year, mass demonstrations forced Georgian Dream to drop plans for a similar measure.

Just show these protestors similar laws in other countries US EU etc after they see that most developed democracies have the same laws they would have no reason to protest unless they want their country to be dictated by others. US Uk, Germany would never stand for that
Shouldn’t you guys tell us what is this bill about
Any entity, individual or an organization will be subjected to the label of "foreign agent" if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad. The law is very broad and lacks specific language, so it will be used selectively to quash the opposition, no matter what form it takes, NGOs, media outlets, private citizens, bloggers, influencers, etc. Labeling will be the inital phase, but it will quickly escalate to fines, lawsuits, criminal charges and taking away of rights. This last thing happened in russia just now, btw, they ratified a new amendment which forbid any person or oganization was ever labelled a "foreign agent" from participating in any state office elections as a candidate and from observing elections as an official observer. The law that GE parliament is trying to pass is word-for-word translated from its russian counterpart, even the sequence of bullet points is the same. In very short: it's a "let us silence whomever we want and cement our rule indefinitely bill".
It’s definitely a good idea to not force DW, BBC, and RT to not be labeled as foreign agents. Hiding bias and living under an authoritarian boot is best that why it’s great if this law is not passed!

In itself having transparency regarding funding is not a bad idea. But such a law should make it clear what that information will be used for. What is the possible consequence if an organization is funded largely from abroad? Having a Greenpeace, or Amnesty International office can probably be seen differently from having a Russia funded lobby-group/think-tank, for instance. The thing is that a law like that could possibly be used to curb foreign 'influence' by whoever happens to be in government at that moment. A Russian-leaning government might well act against western organizations while a western-leaning government would use it to act against russian/chinese organizations. This requires very careful wording of the law.

Wrong! US has a foreign influence bill for lobbying companies and also specifies which countries it applies to. This law is about nongovernmental organizations and media and doesn't specify country. Furthermore, this law allows the government to shut down any such organizations on the basis of anonymous tips and without involving the court of justice, just on the whims of a single person Prosecutor's Office - Soviet "donos" style. If you can't see the difference, or anything wrong with this 1937 kind of justice, you've got a serious problem.
