Good morning, I am an orchid grower and I enjoy your videos so much they help me to take greater care of my orchids. Can I get orchids shipped to Grenada. I am really interested in buying some pots also.
Hi, I was given an Orchid, but didn't know what type it was. Then, I just happen to stumble onto your channel. Thanks to you, I now know that I was given an Phalaenopsis (Moth) Orchid. So thank you for posting that video. Now. I'm addicted in growing orchids. And learning everything about them. Thank you MissOrchidGirl!
Thank you for mentioning what light exposure my orchid needs. I have an East or a West facing window I can put my indoor plants in-front of. I had my orchid with my violet on the west window but purposely watched this video to know what is best. I’ll move it to my east facing window. I learned with my violet that the direction the window faces really makes a difference. I thought light was light.
Just what I needed, the lighting where I keep my orchids is less in the summer despite being next to a southern facing window because of trees casting shade. I recently got a grow light & I am trying to figure out how much supplemental light to give. I've been successfully keeping orchids for a year now thanks to your videos.
Thank you I got bored with orchids and stopped growing them but when looking at this video it explains a lot for me. I was doing everything except making sure they had proper light, thank you I am now ready to try again
Hi Danny! I followed your wonderful growing instructions for some years but refused to get artificial lights because at that time I couldn't get enough information to what I should and can get and all available was very expensive and not affordable. I have a very very dark flat, hence I lost orchids every winter and it wasn't much better in the summer. Some years ago things got better, and I could get good lights. Now all orchids grow and bloom as they should. So light is everything! And although I've done everything correct, I only succeed in growing with enough light. ⚘⚘💗💗
Gosh, if I could built a small wind farm to power my lights, then get lights, build beautiful and Extensive cases like something you have, that would be the coolest thing ever. Well at least you will be having another video explaining the do’s and don’ts of artificial lighting. Hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day so my prospects are looking up! Thanks MOG.
I'm not what you would consider a beginner Orchid grower but I really like your videos and I've been watching you for years. When people ask me about questions on growing orchids I'll give them my feedback but then direct them to your RUclips channel. Thank you for all the information you provide!
I REALLY!!!! appreciate your adding the names of the orchids as you talk about them - the only problem is that my "GOT TO HAVE!" is getting longer and longer! Thanks.
Great video on light. I grow nearly all of my orchids under artificial lights. Most of them are full spectrum made for the home but I am starting to get the grow light type. I just don't want the purple color as much as I like purple, I prefer the full spectrum color for my plants. Keep up the great work!
TY MOG, I was worried but now I'm reassured. Within one growing season, they don't fit in their growing space anymore. Yep, I'd say they are getting enough light.
Look forward to more on lights, terrariums and have you ever considered a Wardian case, Dani? That’s my next project! Oh & congrats 🍾 on the engagement!
I had closed captioning on and it had some funny spellings for "orchids" and other words or phrases: 'war kids' at minute 9:54. 'Cat layers' at 15:40. 'Type of mercury' at 15:57. 'Door kits' at 16:23. And, 'well written spaces' for 'well lit spaces' at 16:35. They did spell orchids correctly many times. Why would 'war kids' ever be a better choice than 'orchids'? I don't know how you'd get this corrected, but it has been amusing.
Hi there! Thank you so much for this topic. Everything you stated makes logical sense. however I have an orchid that's not making any sense to me right now. I had her in lower light setting and it began to display these faint yellowing (or discoloration) on her leaves, and some craters. I inspected her and found no pests. She has a keiki, but the keiki's growth seems to have stopped all together. It has 3 leaves. Anyway, after I moved the orchid from her spot to a new spot, I did not notice any improvement on her yellowing. So I transferred her a gain to a more well lit spot, top shelf on a Milsbo cabinet with pink Barrina lights. She was there for about 3 weeks, but I don't believe she liked it either, and her yellowing spots have intensified. I am very new to this, but I've been following you for about 5 months now and from what I've seen in your video library, this doesn't appear to be a virus either. The edges of the spots are diffused. Now from another video in your library, this problem might also be due to a magnesium issue. But I was wondering if you or anyone else in this channel can offer any advice. I would like to share photos somehow. I know you have this orchid in your collection. She is the Phalaenopsis Murcia, with a White flower and Huge Blood Red/Burgundy spots all over her petals. I think she's beautiful. She has such strong leaves and a lot of them, currently 5 on each side. If anyone here has this orchid can you please share what light conditions you offer? High, Medium, Low? I want to keep her healthy and I'd like her keiki to keep growing and make new roots. It's hard to separate her keiki, though I tried. There is a root coming out just at the place where it's joined and I am afraid of cutting the root and also afraid of cutting the keiki incorrectly or prematurely. I cannot clearly tell which roots belong to the keiki, so I want to see it grow new roots that can help it survive before I separate it.
Hi thanks for this wonderful video . I got moth orchid last year . It’s growing healthy leaves n too many roots . I feed it twice a months with orchid feed .. of Miracle grow . But till now it’s not produced any spike… can u please guide me the reasons bednind this . Happy growing orchids !! Beautiful collection. !! Keep it up .
I have a pretty bright apartment but most of my plants were getting direct sun if I didn't put up a Privacy screen. It seems to help but right now the light is really low so I'm using artificial light until it starts to snow hopefully that'll bring back some light.
This is something I’m struggling to balance with one of my Phals. It gets hit with direct, evening sun and I noticed the darkening leaves and anthocyanin you talked about. I put a shade on the window so I’m hoping it will improve.
Dani, please please please tell me where you found your Smiley Tangerine! I’ve been wanting one so badly. Did you find her online? And if so, which place would you recommend?
Hi Danny, I have 5 mini phalaenopsis, which are inside with have artificial lighting. The bottom leaves are yellow green and wrinkled. The top leaves are lovely and shiny would they be lacking something? Thanks for all your help.
Danny, here's a thought, once an orchid blooms what if you then reduce the light, will the flowers then last longer ?. I started wondering after observing that my orchid seemed to loose its fragrance when I let my house get too cold but after I turned the thermostat back to normal the fragrance came back, so started wondering if aging itself could be slowed and if so what could control it.
Hi, no I don't think that would be ok :) less light means less photosynthesis, meaning less food, meaning flowers maybe dropping earlier :)) lower temps do work as they decrease metabolism!
Hi, I was given shelfs and lights to rearrange my small collection (mostly cattleya types/ oncidium types) by my wife. The lights dont seem that powerful (10W total, 30 cm long x 3 light bars) and not sure if you measure the intensity or recommend a minimum intensity for these orchids?
I bought two sets of the Dommina light you have in your greenhouse list. I’m currently using one set of the 2 lights in my Milsbo cabinet I have one on the top of the cabinet and one on the first shelf I’m now wondering if that is enough light though. Any advice on if I should add the other set as they are very bright (at least to me) and I have set the timer to 10hrs.
Hi Dani, I am looking for a Phal Bellina as you suggested for those lovers of Phal's. Can I ask you where you got yours? and also, would you be open to share your Phal Bellina?
Hello Danny and everyone. I'm a new to the orchid hobby and looking for some information that can possible be a subject for this channel new video. What do you use to catalog your collection? Can you recommend web or mobile apps for gardening, diary with tracking plant’s history: health, blooming history/duration, Integrated with note-taking option for plant’s health and expenses, image tracking? It may also have reminders and scheduling options.
Thank you for this video! I can usually only tell if they get proper light when their foliage is rigid and thicker. Flimsy foliage seems to follow low light.
No, I think that would be way too much light. The amount of time the light is on makes a difference too. With a brighter light, you can keep it on less often, and vice versa. I have basic led kitchen cabinet lights (not very bright) and they stay on 12-16 hours every day. I’ve heard that orchids need a dark period too.
I think no as well because if we think about how these orchids thrive in the wild, they also will have periods of darkness aka at night when the sun is down. So I would imagine she doesn’t leave her lights on for 24 hours
Orchids need night rest. Light phase shouldn't be more than 12-14h a day and orchid societies recommend adding or reducing lights gradually according to the season. More in the Summer, less in the Winter. And only additional lights in the afternoon if one has lots of natural sun.

Several orchids have a CAM metabolism, which (very simplified) means they absorm CO2 at night time which as you know is an essential component of their growth. 24h light inhibit that.
Hi, a general orchid care video might take a full day actually, so I always split them in sections ☺️ in the description you'll find my most important tutorials, check it out!
Should I grow my plants outside where they get moderate light facing north and a drop in nighttime temps or inside facing east with excellent morning light but a constant temp 24 hrs?
Hello! I’m not MsOrchid but this really depends on where you live! What is your hardiness zone? Orchids will only survive outside year round if the environment is similar enough to it’s natural habitat. Sometimes you can put orchids in ideal locations outside in the warmer months and bring it inside for the winter if where you live is too cold in those months.
@@SpArK4GrL Thanks, Tay. I live in Central, FL where the days right now are in the 90's and nights mid-70's. Right now the plants are inside facing east and when it cools down I will put them back outside to get the benefit of the cooler nights.
Neofinetia falcata is the bane of my existence. I’ve had five of them over the years and managed to kill all five of them. Of all the orchids I’ve raised this is without a doubt the most difficult. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I’ve completely given up on ever raising one again.

Thank you!! This was so helpful! I used to be one of those that got confused by the “low light” recommendation on the orchid tag.
I find your videos very useful. I was given my first orchid earlier on this year and i love learning about how to care for it.

Danni, some LED panels can and will give your orchids light burn. If you have a powerful light and the plants are closer than recommended.

I like your vidioes they are interesting and a lot of information.
The Australian struggle 😭 I get either sunburnt orchids from harsh sun or sad bloomless orchids from not enough sunlight 😩

The variegated orchid (leaf) at the beginning of the video is beautiful! What is this orchid called please?
It's likely a phalaenopsis schilleriana, but I'm not completely sure. Maybe someone else will be able to confirm?
I am curious, do you leave your artificial lights on 24 hours a day?
