Kimbap is that sweet spot Trader Joe's thing... It's not that it's amazing it's that it's reliable and high quality, and you are happy to eat it vs. spending $16 on lunch.
Friend! You are fancy! But the jalapeño ideas is really good!
Agreed. It doesn’t really taste like kimbap but it’s handy to have in the freezer for a quick bite.
I work at TJs and the kimbap craze is crazy! When it was first released that thing sold out by 10 am now it usually would sell out by the afternoon. We also just got two new items which imo is delicious which are the Japanese soufflé and the bubble waffle.
Congrats on 3 million subscribers Emmy! May you be blessed with 3 million more. 😊
Pan fry the kimbap instead of microwaving. It's much better. Rice gets nicer and crispy. I top mine with a dab of kewpie and some gochujang sauce.
from frozen or thawed?
@@DisillusionedAcronym From frozen. They're also good if you dip them in an egg wash first, but then you do lose the crispy rice part.
Just put a pan at medium high heat with some neutral oil, and fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side.
@@DilvishW
that sounds amazing! thank you.
I tried them pan fried as is and then dipped in egg and coated with Panko and they were only marginally better. They really do need dipping sauce because they don’t have much flavor on their own.
@@hellinahandbasket2 I think they taste good as is, but the kewpie and gochujang sauce definitely take them to the next level. They are nice dipped in a dumpling type sauce as well.
I grew up in the Pasadena area of So Cal and remember Traders was originally called Pronto Market. We would stop there on our walk home from school and get their version of a slurpee and their famous trail mix.
Whoa, I never knew it was called that. 💫
I grew up in Glendale and remember that Trader Joe's also!
Same. We loved going to Pronto!
I used to go to the Pasadena location when I lived down there, I was so happy when they finally arrived in Washington!
My husband worked there. He grew up in eagle rock. Back in the day when they first started and it was not popular.
As a Korean American, I find it hilarious just how crazy people are for these. It’s so easy to make yourself from scratch. It’s a pretty mundane food for us. Similar to how you’d view tuna sandwiches or potato salad
That's how desperate we are for anything less mundane 😅
Well... as a human, mundane (I prefer the term "comfort") food is awesome. Tuna samich, mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, kimbap, and ramen... oooooh... Quatro Cheese Buldak, I love you so.
Well I think Trader Joe’s kind of attracts people who don’t really want to cook, so it makes sense they lost their marbles over this. I’m just blessed I have an Hmart nearby where I live ❤️❤️🙏🙏
No diffrence then you would think other countries food is to much work amd it's our fast to put together food.
It's like back in the 50s when tv dinner comes out. They were selling frozen dinner, and I'm not sure how fast dinner sold. I remember seen an old ads for them. Making waves for other food like frozen pizza, which is easy to make. My grandmother said the first time she tried frozen pizza wasn't like she expected. Was nasty for frozen pizza just being put out on market.
People today want fast and easy. Plus, we are lazy when it comes to meal time. That way, we have so many fast food places now.
Of note, Emmy has been making these wonderfully informative and engaging videos for 13 years! She is worth far more than her weight in gold ✨️ It's so worth watching her entire backlog of videos they are all gems. Domo arigato Emmy 😊
I had a giggle at the “Frawwwnce!” 😂 it’ll never not be funny to me, lol
9:22 I don't know why I found that so funny.. It's like you were both happy and bummed out all at the same time ☺️
My TJ's limits these kimbap to 2 per person. Same thing with the hashbrown patties. Buying 16 of anything is greedy lol.
I use the grocery bag version of that bag for all my shopping. It is great.
I love these sooo much! My local TJs put a limit on how many you can get at a time lol, they're that popular.
Hey Emmy, I love the Abita Mystery House. Stop there every time I drive I10 through Louisiana.
Cool bags are so useful when travelling and you want to have a nice chilled beverage on the go, just make sure you use some of those ice bock things or freezer packs or whatever they're called (a sort of gel stuff in plastic pouches that you stick in the freezer), great for car or train journeys... :)
Emmy you do nothing but influence me. 💗💗
That bread looks so good. I can see myself getting a big slice toasted and adding salted butter and strawberry jam, and have it as breakfast with a cup of coffee
I keep a insulated bag in my car as well, I use it for when I get fast food, to keep it warm while driving home. It really does help.
The fillings can take time to make, but the roll itself is super easy to make (well enough at least; of course the experts are way better!) and I can’t imagine that a frozen & microwaved kimbap can be much good, especially the texture of the rice (but maybe I’ll just fussy).
Sometimes for lunch I’ll start the rice cooker when I wake up, then just before breakfast I’ll mix up the rice with the salt & sesame oil, just pop some veggies (sometimes even just cucumber, but wok-scrambled eggs work too) inside, roll up a roll, slice & put it in a thermos to eat for an early lunch. If I had the wherewithal to make more classic fillings ahead of time, that would be just as easy to pop in.
Anyway, 10/10 recommend. So I wouldn’t eat these frozen kimbap, but it was interesting to learn they are a thing and fun to see you try them!
I’m guessing these might be best fried (like what you might do with leftover kimbap).
The FRANCE reference from miss world is brilliant lol
YAAASSSS!!! 💀You got it. 👸
I thought that’s what that was hah
@@tehkuwen5222 I was laughing when I heard it 😂
@@yazdhenab. oh luvly
In Piquant the qu is pronounced like a k. So pee-kant. Rhymes with want. It means a sharp and pleasant flavor. Often used with creole or Cajun flavors.
Why is pink always the best!!! ✨💖✨
Right? Like pink Starburst. 😋
@@clearyourhead333pink and red Starbursts are the best.😊
Dried mandarin orange pieces. So yummy.
Emmy! I was at TJ's the other day and picked up some of that gimbap. WOW. It's great! Not surprised that one woman you mentioned was picking them up 16 at a time. I ate a whole package in one sitting. Thanks for the tip!
Ms. Emmy the snippets after you've signed off are awesome. Thank you 🩷🦋
Trader Joes Kimbap only has 9 slices. I see 3 in each section - there's 3 sections.
yes, Emmy clearly misspoke
I couldn't understand why I only saw 9, and it was frustrating. Geez
Jeez what do you get from being so pedantic about how many is in a packet for goodness sake 🙄
@@siobhan2623 Because, she mentions it multiple times and used it as a pro for the Trader Joe version that it had 12 slices versus 8 on the Sunlit.
Emmy is a sharp gal... I am guessing she is baiting us on the comments
I love that popcorn. I have bought like 12 bags the last few months. I really want more, but am trying to spread out my Trader Joe hauls.
I had it for lunch today so the timing on this is nice. I really like it. They have a limit of 2 per customer at my TJs.
Trader Joe's is great love the variety of snacks i love there coffee and cookie butter and there bamba peanut snacks.
I've used similar bags to that before they definitely benefit from being as full as possible and the use of at least two freezer blocks even if you pack it out with pre chilled water bottles maybe even one bottle frozen this will help maintain the chill air inside
I love Trader Joe's! The ones by me are super busy all the time so I have to go in mentally prepared for all of it but I love getting the interesting foods and treats there.
Can't wait till the local tomatoes start coming in, so I can toast up some bread like you got and make Pan Con Tomate. Toast bread, rub fresh cut garlic clove, rub halved tomato, a little olive oil (maybe directly on bread, depends on preference) a little salt & pepper. The Spain on a Fork guy does a version that sounds like what we had in Spain. Had to, after our friend who runs a Galgo rescue in the US and travels there at least once a year, said it was her fave Spanish breakfast.
If you have a Costco in your area, their Kimbap is delicious as well.
Love the video with you trying grocery store products!👍🤩
ooohh and I was just there this week !! did not see those bags though! however I LOVE there argentinian shrimp, the texture and taste at least to me is like lobster! I grab a few bags at a time😋 gotta keep an eye out for the kimbap they were sold out
That's a great tip!
Don't forget an ice pak! In the summer in Texas, you never shop without an ice pak! There's no Trader Joe's here but the kimbap sounds delicious. Thanks, Emmy ❣️
Too bad you don't have a Trader Joe's in your area. It's great. They have frozen water bottles there that you can ask for to put with your groceries to keep them cold. It's a super nice thing to do. Wish all grocery stores did that.
@@shannondore That is really nice. There's an Aldi about 40 miles away. I shop there if I go to the town where it is.
Arizona too
We're not in Texas but it gets very hot and humid here. We have to provide all our own bags so all the cold stuff goes in a couple of large cooler bags. It's fine for the drive home without an ice pack
@@TracyKMainwaring I live an hour from the grocery store so we have to use insulated bags and ice packs.
I told you, she made the toast......I know Emmy, trader Joe's is so awesome!!
My TJ has a limit of four per person and they still sell out SO FAST. I got lucky and was able to try them once and really enjoyed it.
i cant wait! i’ve been looking at the kimbap for weeks and weeks, but i haven’t decided whether to try it or not! you’re always on point 🎯
I tried it, and it's ok. In my opinion, Lotte Plaza kimbap is better. They're slightly cheaper and more variety of flavors.
@@laurkrI actually found the TJ ones kinda gross 😭idk it has a weird flavor to it? Idk if it was just mine
Congratulations on 3 million subscribers Emmy!!! ❤
When i was a teenager my parents used to go the Buddhist center (in Cumberland if memory serves) and they discovered nutritional yeast and butter on popcorn there. I have been doing it ever since and I’m going to be 57 in August.
they're hard to find, but Black Forest has some gummy bears that are even tinier - about the size of my pinky nail. I'll have to give the TJ's a try, too
I love dipping them in some scrambled eggs with a splash of tamari (soy sauce without gluten) and sesame oil and then frying them. I only thaw them for a minute because I know they're going to be cooked again. Soooooo good.
My mom used to make a bunch of Kim bops whenever I went on a field trip for school. And with the leftovers she would wrap them in raw egg and then fry them a pan. I used to call them Kim Bob, omelettes! Of course, dip them in some wasabi plus soy sauce.
My mom would make them for road trips and we’d eat them in the car. Actually the Trader Joe’s kim bob is best in the omelette jeon style. I’ll either defrost it or microwave for 45 seconds direct from freezer. I’ll lightly coat them in flour and then dip them in egg and then into the frying pan they go. I’ll top the side that’s up with a sliced jalapeño before I flip it to finish cooking.
How do you wrap anything in a raw egg?
@@AnniCarlsson lol. You coat them first in flour or cornstarch then dip in egg before you fry them.
I’m so sorry! It’s one of those Korean isms. In English, it would be “dipped in raw egg.“ i’ve been working all day so my brain was stuck in Korean. Occupational hazard, I guess! Lol!
@@mkryu that was not what was said.
The variety of textures in the H Q D U P S pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something
for everyone.
One of my favorite TJ items is the chicken maple breakfast sausages. Yummy
That bread looks sooo good !!!!
Don't know if they still have it but the Trader Joe's popcorn in the *green* bag is soooooo DELICIOUS!!!! Very savory with Thyme, Rosemary, and some other spices I can't remember. I have to be careful as I can eat the entire bag in one sitting!
The popcorn in the yellow bag is absolutely awful. It's flavored with lemon juice and is vile as it sounds.
One of my absolute favorite TJ’s items is the Lentil Soup with Ancient Grains. It’s so flavorful!!
I, too, have been shopping @trader Joe's since all the employees wore Hawaiian shirts (not just the managers)
I know they aren't manufactured products, but, their cara cara oranges & snap peas are usually fantastic
Same. Their 8oz (refrigeration required) coconut water
In the old days, my favorite was individual frozen quiche, usually the spinach one (recommend oven or covered pan on low heat, with baking paper inside heating, not the microwave, but, try all 3, maybe, see what you like)
Shou mai are yummy too. Freezer section
Same lime popsicles &Ultra Chocolate icecream
The thick cured corn chips (look like fritos), and taste even better. They come in plain & spicy. I like the Thanksgiving flavor potato chips, which I think you tried, the Carmel corn, and the olive oil chips.
Their tiny frozen peas are good, and their DIY frozen shrimp. Infact, they're good together with their sesame oil & their French sea salt. Since you are a spice eater, maybe also try some of their spices on it. They may even have a sriracha style one?
I like their three pack dark Belgian chocolate bars (but, go ahead and try them all), the 2 pack chocolate lover bars (earthy healthy-strength chocolate, for that sincere *need*)& the coffee in chocolate individual bars, in a 3 or 4 pack chocolate bar shaped "box", maybe 2"x4"x1/4"?
Strawberry rhubarb soda/pop, great on ice, &/or with a twist of lime or your favorite fresh mint. Maybe a sliced strawberry, too, if you want a fancy spritzer look & taste
(Sonoma?) Chicken salad, (grapes), tuna salad, (egg too, I think)
Sometimes they have roasted ready-to-eat chicken, I think
Mozzarella & procuito dollop
3 times creamy brie
& more
I love to count the times you push your glasses up. I lost count at 25. Love your videos.
I enjoyed these well enough but I'm super lucky and we have enough of a Korean community locally that we have a large Korean grocery store. Theres fresh, homemade kimbap available daily ❤ (and ramen and fried chicken 🐔)
ah i just bought the kimbap again today! it’s not the best thing ever but it hits the spot if i’m in a pinch
Emmy is going to make toast with that bread, she loves toast...and so do I...with fig spread...good stuff as well.
I use to have a very large(3x larger than your) version of that lunch box it was a door prize when it opened in my town in California. It was an insulated shopping bag the same color. My daughter took it when when went off to university. It is over 10years old and still going strong. I now live in Missouri and we do not have trader joe's here (im so sad)
Trader Joe’s used to have a cinnamon vanilla black tea that was soooo good in the winter, I’m still sad they discontinued it 😭
Now I get their hashbrown patties, chicken sausage patties, lightly coated chocolate almonds, Ube pancake mix, apple blossoms, and their olive oil popcorn! 😊
I add a little sesame seeds and Avocado! Such a great lunch
I also put Nutrional yeast on my popcorn at home. I do buy the TJ Piquant popcorn. It is tasty.
I love it. So good.
I like to spray my popcorn with lemon juice and then add the nutritional yeast. It’s so good!!
Ooo...I'll have to try that combination.
Looove a TJ haul! I can never get the kimbop in my local store. But I’ll keep looking cause I want to try!
The bread reminds me of German bread. Can't wait to try it.
I'm not sure what it is about Emmy, but I do not mind, actually, I enjoy hearing her crunch and munch lol. Normally, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me when anyone else does it, except for maybe my kids when they were little (that was adorable as well). I just adore her so much!
I love the Trader Joe’s kimbap it’s always sold out!
Emmy, you’re the one that got me hooked on nutritional yeast and popcorn. Love it. 🤤
Hi Emmy, I love home-popped popcorn I buy mushroom popcorn it's what they use to make Carmel corn the regular popcorn has lots of hulls in it, but the mushroom popcorn is a bigger piece of popcorn. I order mine on Amazon.
The thing I miss most from TJ's is the cheese scones they had many years ago. I hope they never discontinue the sprouted grain bread; it's a staple in my house. I also buy all of my coffee there and dairy whenever I go. I've been going to Trader Joe's since Jr. High (because yup, I'm that old), it was walking distance from my house.
I will definitely try the kimbap if they happen to have some next time I shop TJ's.
I love the sunlit brand! I get them a lot!
I agree with you about Trader Joe’s taking away the snacks you love. They used to have these little round crunchy ball shaped seaweed snacks that were so good many years ago. But their fried battered seasoned seaweed is also really good and thankfully that one stuck around (at least for now). They had yuba (which they called tofu sheets) that they stopped carrying. They still carry pajeon, so hopefully that is staying. They actually had hotteok for a minute, but I didn’t buy it at the time I saw it and the next it was gone and I haven’t seen it since. 😕 my latest addiction is the strawberry yogurt almonds & friend cheese curds. I also love the maple walnut biscotti (seasonal). Too many tasty snack there. It can be a dangerous place.
My nanny kids really like the pop corn, I bought it on a whim while trying to cut them back on snack bars lol it was a hit!
3M SUBSCRIBERS 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 🥳🎉🎉🥳 CONGRATS EMMY
You should try the haribo “fruit salad” it has grapefruit and papaya flavors which are slightly bitter. They’re grand
Those gummy bears are the size of the German ones by Haribo. We have those in Australia. Prior to importing those, we always had jubes, which are becoming much harder to find, sadly. Not all jubes are equal.
You made my mouth water watching you eat that bread. Thats my kind of bread.
Nutritional yeast is by far my favorite thing to put on popcorn.
Oh yes! I wholeheartedly agree! Along with a bit of garlic powder and pepper.
Same, and I like to add a bit of Parmesan cheese, too. Yum!
Where do yu find it?
@@KenyaAMooreTrader Joe’s or Natural Food store
There's that 3M!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’m a fan of their soup dumplings ❤
I love that kind of bread 22:05
More introducing random cute products you see (like the trader Joe bag) in videos you do! I find the little supermarket items in the US very interesting
i will try that bread. the pot stickers and dark chocolate pb cups are my things there other than staples. Their butter is really good butter.
Thanks for the beautiful video
The Trader Joe’s kimbap tastes great with some kimchi on top 😋
Mmm, i love gummie bears!!! Those kimbaps look delicious! I also like open-faced sangies with tuna, ring of green pepper, slice of tomato, dash of black pepper then topped with cheese then broiled til melted....Thanks for your excellent videos....now off to fill my gullet lmao! Cheerio
“Don't forget an ice pak!" :P
OMG I need to make a trip to get the lunch bag
Just tried it Kimbap tonight. Not bad. Easy to pack for lunch.
I love cream cheese with green olives chopped up and mixed on a bagel.
I know right…so delicious. I also put in on crackers around the holiday season.
That toast is making me hungry 😋
That bread makes the BEST toast.
Emichan ripping the heads off of gummy bears. lol.
Emmy, TJs more sells Maple Poffertjes, so GOOD!
Costco also has kimbop
I want one of those lunch boxes so bad. Trader Joe's here I come.🏃🏻♀️➡️😂
For any Australian viewers like me salivating over the kimbap, Woolworths has started stocking frozen gimbap rolls (another name for them).
They're Bibigo brand, come in "Tuna-Mayo" and "Bulgolgi-Flavour", but are made in Japan i stead of Korea.
I got both types yesterday but I haven't had an opportunity to try it yet.
OK I tried the Tuna-Mayo tonight. I really enjoyed it.
I can't attest to "authenticity", and it's probably not as good as a restaurant one, but the convenience of having a ready-made tasty treat is pretty awesome.
I dropped some good-quality sesame oil over it, but I think that overpowered the flavour.
If you can find it on special it's great value for the convenience.
Its like Cost Plus , a specialty store . I wouldn't go there regularly , but every once in awhile , just to find something different .
I interned at the bakery as a culinary student!
I've heard so much about Trader Joe's that I wish we had one in Topeka, Kansas were I live. 😢
I recommend you make it yourself. It’s actually very easy. It’s kind of like the Korean version of deli sandwiches. You can find ingredients at your American grocery or online if you can’t find nori and glutinous rice. I generally don’t like these premade ones because freezing and thawing out rice can make the texture kind of off
I've never heard anyone else mention the tiny gummies before. I hoard them because they're a seasonal item
Emmy! You should try the trader Joe's Jumeokbap rice balls. They were way better than expected and they're good with kimchi too!
The bread you tried is like Greek countryside bread.
That bread with tomatoes and garlic marmelade. That would be so good
Lovely video 📹 Emmy! you should try trader joes kung pao chicken mochi balls! I saw ms ming phd try them on RUclips they look amazing!!
