So. My Dad, on his deathbed. In the nursing home and I knew he would die. I begged him to last to his birthday so I could take my mom to him for his birthday and also, he was on a feeding tube. I knew it would be his last day. I got him damn near every flavor I could of various beverages with extra ice and minis, and I had like 30 different flavors for him to experience again because he was only allowed ice chips, and my local sonic helped me with that in Winfield Alabama. I was only allowed to feed him the ice chips. It meant so much to me to be able to give him flavors again when he'd only been allowed unflavored ice chips in his mouth. We each and every one of us never know when we're going to taste our last tastes and flavors. I'm so grateful for Sonic helping me to give my father extra sensory experiences and flavors beyond him being told he'd never experience flavor again.
They helped me make things slightly better for a man on his deathbed. He died within 9 hours, and to my knowledge, as I was taking care of my Mom who is in a memory care facility and they'd been separated and soft spot for them
That's awesome but seems so silly if the man was 8n his deathbed they wouldn't allow him to eat or drink whatever he wanted. We brought my MIL a shake and French fries which she requested. It made her really happy.
Oh my god, are you happy with all the attention you're getting? This is absolutely insane to be shared in the comment section of a video of someone eating fast food and I hope you realize that. Please go to therapy. Get help.
Congrats on hitting 3 million subscribers Emmy you deserve it I hope your channel continues to grow. Thanks for always putting a smile on my face when you upload 😃
Former Carhop here, you were exactly right about the cherry limeade - in that all the limeades are made with Sprite. For cherry limeade they add cherry syrup, fresh squeezed lime, and 1-3 cherries. Strawberry limeade has scoop(s) of the strawberry sundae topping and fresh squeezed lime. Plain limeade is just sprite and fresh squeezed limes.
OMG, is that how Sonic limeade made?? It is my absolute favorite. There aren't any Sonics around my area and it's such a treat when we travel and I can get a large one. And the onion rings are so yummy. Thank you!
I've heard several vlogging mom's say "bussin" recently so I know it must've run its course or be close to the end of being cool as youthful slang. I still say things are cool but I ditched groovy 50+ years ago. Omg.. I'm so old. I wonder if Emmy's boys are rizzin any girls up yet? If as a gray haired grandmother I said rizzin up out loud in public I feel like it would be weird. I'll try it out on my son. Lol 😅
You just radiate happiness when you try new things. I love it! I was having a rough day, but your joy and excitement has put a huge smile on my face. Thank you, Emmy! ❤
Emmy, I’ve been watching your videos for over a decade and I wanted to say how much I appreciate your kind and calming energy. Your videos help me more than you know!
Fellow Oklahoma resident(Okie) here. Sonic was founded here in Shawnee! I’ve grown up here my whole life and Sonic is a staple! I’ve been following you the last 7 years and I am SO happy to see you try a taste of my home. ❤️ Happy 3 mill subscribers!
I'm a nurse in a medical clinic. We have a Sonic ice machine in the basement at work! I buy my own diet soda in 2L bottles and make my own Sonic drink every day.
i work at a convenience store in oregon and the bags of ice we get are either 7lb crushed for 3.29 currently or 10lb blocks for 4.99, so this is a great deal comparatively! i grew up next to one and another thing i'd point out as a unique part of sonic is their all-day (or night) breakfast, i used to get a ham croissant over their normal burgers for years. this was a surprisingly nostalgic video for me, thank you!
When I was pregnant with my son I craved a sonic cheese burger so bad it would make me CRY. My poor husband made sure we had one on hand almost 24/7. The closest one was 20 miles away. With my first child I craved an orange cream slush with pop rocks candy. They don’t have that anymore but their ice is still THE BEST
My husband actually JUST got an orange creamsicle type thing tonight from our local sonic (in South Carolina)! As in, just 2 hours ago at 8pm EST, he was slurping it down. I can't remember if it was a slush or a float, but maybe it will taste similar to what you used to have?? This one came with popping boba pearls, though, not pop rocks. I think it's new for the summer, maybe.
The orange creamsicle was the absolute best! I would get one during happy hour almost everyday when I was pregnant almost 14 years ago. I literally cried when it was taken off the menu about a month before my pregnancy ended. The hormones were real lol but it was sooooo good!!!!
We don't have Sonic where I live in southern Ontario Canada but when I was a kid we used to go to the A&W drive Inn all the time. They would put a tray on the window and because there were 5 of us a second try would be put on the passenger side too. LOL I still love A&W food.
A cherry limeade is sprite, maraschino cherry juice and lime juice. You can ask for extra lime to cut sweetness. My order is a chili cheese coney, tots and a cherry limeade.
Car hops used to leave a tray hanging on the window and then come back for it when you were done. I used to have lunch nearly every day at such a drive in in the 70s. I've never been to a Sonic though.
Not always on skates, but car hop did take the order from the car, and bring it on a window tray, at both Hires and A&W root beer stands that we ate at in the midwest in the late 50s and early 60s. Then a McDonalds opened up in Davenport. When I started working at a McD's in the 70s, they still had the white and red tiles, no dining room, golden arches through the roof, and served Coke or root beer from root beer barrels. Now I can hardly ever find root beer at McD.
I like Sonic. I like the Chicago dog, footlong chili cheese dog cherry limeade, breakfast wraps, and their burgers. I am also not so much of a tater tot fan. I like the onion rings. Sonic was also a favorite with my two miniature pinschers. Every time we took them to Sonic, they would go ape. They would get in our faces to see what mommy and daddy had to eat and how much of it was going to them. More often than not, we would be visited by a small white crane (no doubt looking for a handout) that would land in the back of my pick up truck which always caught the attention of my two pups. Fun video.
I still have never been to Sonic. I love having a car hop deliver my food. A gazillion years ago, I used to be a carhop at Daly's. The ChiChi and Coney dogs, and deep fried mushrooms were the best. Made great chocolate shakes too. Aaaaahhhh, the memories. Thanks Emmy
I am Generation Jones, and there really are just 3 things I miss from the 60s. Drive-In Theaters, my home town had 6 and they always had triple features with shorts and ads Friday and Saturday nights. Drive-In diners like Sonic, back in the day Krystal, What-A-Burger and a bunch of mom & pops were all over the place. My grandfather. Everything else, I really don't miss it.
Sonic is truly a staple in the midwest/south, the cheapest and largest drinks to last some long drives or some stressful days! Especially when its hot a sin outside!! Congratulations on 3mil subscribers as well! I've been subscribed since you were at 50k! So cool to see your growth.
another cool thing, they STILL do half price burger night on Tuesdays after 5pm, where you get all non-specialty burgers half off, no limits. great way to take the family out for dinner when you're really on a budget. sonic isn't perfect, and there's a lot that they don't get right; but there's a lot they DO get right, and they are very family friendly
I used to be a manager at Sonic in Louisiana and I also skating carhopped. As you were eating each thing I was remembering how to make them. THe closest one to us where we are in ny is Latham over an hour from me sadly.. Thank you for the sweet memories Emmy
I live in Northern California right outside Sacramento and there’s only ONE Sonic to serve ALL the greater Sacramento area! It opened about 10 years ago then shut down for 2 years, niw it’s thriving again! I got a milkshake from them last night! Thanks for all the great videos! 🙏🏼
Oklahoman here for about 25 yrs now! We love sonic. Going and getting a sonic drink is just one of our fave pastimes here. Health blast and ocean water and cherry slushy was my fave
Cherry limeade is supposed to be their version of a shirley temple. It usually comes with lime wedges in it, but they aren't squeezed. If you squeeze the juice in, it cuts the sweetness of the cherry and adds a delightful tang. Sonic blast is their version of a blizzard (dairy queen). i like oreo mixed with either reese's cup or heath. *chef's kiss* I always got a corn dog, the onion rings, and a cherry limeade as a kid.
I can't believe this is your first time having Sonic, it was absolutely my favorite place growing up in East Texas! I would always order a #1 Combo, no onions extra pickles with Tots and a Cherry Coke. I started ordering the Cherry Coke because of a teacher I had who brought a large Diet Cherry Coke to class every day and would randomly give the cherry to one of the students. I wanted to be able to get my own Cherry every time.
Growing up in the 60s, A&W and Dairy Queen were the drive-ins (not drive-thru) to go to. But both had one thing that sonic is missing ... trays that hang on to your window so you have a place for your order while you eat it. No putting it on the car seat or having to hold it. Ah, the good old days.
I've always lived in towns with at least one Sonic, and am just old enough to remember when they sold malted shakes. They also vary their menu based on location. If you get into the Deep South, you'll find biscuits and gravy that'll do just fine when you can't find a Hardy's.
Next time you go to Sonic, get the Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of tots and a small side of their onion rings. Put the onion rings ON THE BURGER with plenty of ketchup. You won't be sorry! Oh, and wash it down with their "Ocean Water" drink!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Sonic is a cultural institution here in Oklahoma. It is essentially the one fastfood restaurant that even the smallest of towns has. Growing up it was the turn around spot for folks "dragging main" aka driving in a loop over and over to kill time with your friends.
The store ice isn’t the nuggets and it is more expensive! I also agree about the tater tots. The texture when they’re cooked in the oven is not good and I always think they taste weird.
😂😂😂 So true !!! Okies are fans of Sonic, High school, and we always had foot long cheese coney, tator tots, and a Cherry Lime Orange Vanilla Sprite !! Those were the days ... Somebody forgot to tell her you gotta mix them drinks, tho 😊
Hi Emmy well i haven't been to Sonic in a while but when you used to get a cherry limeade they used to put a wedge of fresh lime in it and when you squeeze that in there it made it really nice take care have a nice day
Emmy I’ve been following since I was a teenager in the Japanese make it yourself candy era and even when you had your kiddos and I now have my own kiddo who is 2 and we love watching your videos! Sonic is something I’ve loved since I was a kid too here in Ohio ❤
First time commenting I have watched a lot of your cooking videos over the years and love your take and spin on cooking. Also I am a food reviewer myself and you are a natural at this as well. Thank you for such an honest review it was awesome and I would love to see more.
I literally just got home from a Sonic run less than an hour ago. I totally forgot that Dr Pepper and pickles is supposedly a thing. I get ginger ale with cranberry!
@@craftycreek same! I love both though. I know a few years ago they had a pickle juice slushy. It was ok to try but not get again lol. I prefer pickle juice popsicles 🤣
For the love of all things chocolate, that was driving me absolutely bananas!!! I thought I was the only one! I thought for sure our Emmy would be prepared with an ice chest…then she wasn’t! My brain would NOT stop about the melting and wasted ice😂
When I was a kid many eons ago, legend had it that Dr. Pepper was carbonated Prune juice. And that the 10-2-4 on the side of the bottle signified that it kept you regular.
this made my little okie heart so happy!! My dad would always take me and my brother to sonic every friday for their shakes back in the day when they had half priced shakes and blasts!!
I get extra lime in mine, corn dogs are the best and you will love the nerds slushy. They did have red bull slushy for awhile which is awesome. Oreo blast the best one for sure. Frito chili pie is yum too
For drinks I highly recommend root beer or your favorite soda with sweet cream in it. It’s like an ice cream float without the tons of ice cream. They use their ice cream base for the sweet cream. Orange Fanta + sweet cream = creamsicle.
That ice!!! When I lived in Denver there was only one 7Eleven, that I knew of, that had crunchy ice and I would make excuses to go to that neighborhood. There are no Sonic’s where I live and I’m trying to resist buying one of the crunchy ice machines. 😂
I really like Sonic! I know a lot of people don't, but when it's good, it can be really good. I also recommend getting an Ocean Water (regular or slush, doesn't matter).
I'm surprised that you didn't have the ocean water!!! Like sonic ice is iconic but, to me, the ocean water is secondary to the sonic ice. It's the first thing I think of when I think of Sonic.
@@paulabailey9791 it's blue like the ocean but tastes mostly like coconut, maybe some citrus in there? It's delightful though, and I'm not even a huge coconut fan.
1. Did the ice hold up?? 2. Cherry slush with nerds is the best. 3. Deep fried French toast sticks. We used to pass sonic on the way to the beach every year, and threw all sense out the window.
i live in a small town, there’s definitely a sonic in every direction and once you enter the next town over lol! although, me and most people i know, usually just go to sonic for the drinks.. so many options and combinations ;) the sides are good too
I love getting a strawberry slush float. It's a strawberry slush with a bit of their ice cream on top. It's a lovely strawberries & cream drink/dessert. Highly recommend. Also, if you want smokier burgers try the smasher burger they have now. So good.
My favorite thing at Sonic is the chili cheese tots! They used to have loaded tots that had chili, cheese, sour cream, ranch and jalapeños. They were AMAZING but they haven’t had them for years.
The slushes are all customizable. You can get any of the candies or fruit in any flavor of slushy. I know I guy who would order a vanilla slushy with nerds. I order the strawberry slushy with vanilla and sweet cream. It tastes like a strawberry shortcake. I’ll sometimes get a dish of Ice cream and add it to make a slushy float as well
I miss Sonic, now that I've moved to Western PA from Texas! Though I was going there so often, I'm sure I've saved many dollars and calories. My favorite thing to get was a vanilla soft serve cup with cool whip. So simple and delicious!
i got to try the newest sonic when it first popped up in washington in poulsbo, washington! the food wasnt the greatest at the time.. but the drinks with nerds and pop rocks are so yummy! glad to hear the food is better now.
I used to live in Oklahoma City, and at that time (maybe even still now?) right next to their administrative building on the river walk, there was a restaurant you could walk in to, order at the counter, and sit down to eat inside. Even there right outside of their headquarters, the food was mediocre. The ice is 100% amazing though. My favorite drink there is a vanilla rootbeer. Emmy, you've got to try drink combinations you might actually like! 🤣
I've been to about 5 different fast food places in my life (age 73) and do not live near any, so have never been to a Sonic, Taco Bell, or just about every other place like that. Was at A & W, MacD, KFC, and Wendy's only. Glad I know how to reproduce my favorites at home. At an A & W (the only root beer I really, really like and the diet version doesn't taste any different than regular, they used to have a thing (I think??? it was called a Cooler) where they would add milk (any % works) to the root beer and it is heavenly. Sounds really strange, but it is so refreshing and makes for a tall drink. I use nearly equal amounts of RBeer and milk, but try it to taste. Add the root beer first to the glass as sometimes the other way the milk foams up too much. It's like a different version of a milkshake but not thick. This was in Canada, but probably also had it in the US at one time. Not sure if it was ever on the menu, but the staff knew what it was when asked to make one. I live in a remote area without ANY fast food places and barely a restaurant (1 is open seasonally for tourists in summer), so I'm having a Cooler with my dinner tonight. So glad I can find the A&W diet root beer here occasionally. I don't like pickles anyway (wish I did) so pickles & Dr. Pepper sounds gross.
Emmy! This vid makes me so happy! Next time, try a Lime Slush with Nerds - It was my favorite when I was a kid! Sonic Corn dogs are great, and the chicken dinner combo with the Texas Toast is also great. Ocean Water drink is also a must-try. My go-to drink is a Rt 44 Diet Coke w vanilla.
In 1974, my best friend in high school was a roller skating car hop for the local A&W burger stand in Bakersfield, California.I used to love to go hang out there when I got off work before she did and eat loads of french fries.
Pretzels are amazing! Make sure to get the cheese. It's cold, but still yummy. Also try the onion rings. They are large and have a little ice cream mix in the batter. They are phenomenal. Thank you for sharing!!

I am lol!!! 😂😂😂 the giant bites! I just can’t! Btw congratulations on the 3 Million subscribers! You’re so cute. 😊
Sonic is a cultural institution here in Oklahoma. It is essentially the one fastfood restaurant that even the smallest of towns has. Growing up it was the turn around spot for folks "dragging main" aka driving in a loop over and over to kill time with your friends.
“These tots are bussin” was more than enough for me to give this video a thumbs up 😂 lol love you Emmy! ❤
CONGRATS EMMY! We loved you then and we love you now! We also love Sonic down here in Arkansas. ;)
13:36 Route 44 Cherry limeade with a splash of cranberry light ice. Also add mustard and onion to the chilli cheese hot dog.
Love their ice. It kept me alive when Covid hit. It was all I could eat. 6 lbs lost but I was hydrated.
The store ice isn’t the nuggets and it is more expensive! I also agree about the tater tots. The texture when they’re cooked in the oven is not good and I always think they taste weird.
My favorite Sonic meal growing up was their chicken tenders with fries and gravy for dipping. Yum.
When it comes to tater tots or hashbrowns fried is pretty much the only way to go the texture is always gonna be wrong when they go in the oven
The pretzels are the best. Like a combination donut and pretzel. So good!
How fun! Here in Oklahoma, we unofficially use Sonic ice as a way to describe hail of similar size. 😂 Happy Hour is also fun for half price drinks. :)
On the rez side of Oklahoma we say sonics lol
😂😂😂 So true !!! Okies are fans of Sonic, High school, and we always had foot long cheese coney, tator tots, and a Cherry Lime Orange Vanilla Sprite !! Those were the days ... Somebody forgot to tell her you gotta mix them drinks, tho 😊
Half price sonic drinks?
My favorite thing to get from Sonic is a watermelon cream slush. They are fantastic.
Sonic is my favorite. The chili cheese fries and soft pretzels are my favorite.
First time commenting I have watched a lot of your cooking videos over the years and love your take and spin on cooking. Also I am a food reviewer myself and you are a natural at this as well. Thank you for such an honest review it was awesome and I would love to see more.
The Oreo blast really IS fantastic ❤
I literally just got home from a Sonic run less than an hour ago. I totally forgot that Dr Pepper and pickles is supposedly a thing. I get ginger ale with cranberry!
I love cranberry and ginger ale!❤ I’m glad you had a good experience! Ours was great and now it’s awful 😢
I have never heard of Dr.Pepper with pickles, and I’ve been going my whole life. Must be regional or something
@@craftycreek it popped up in the news cycle about a week or so ago. I don’t know anyone personally who’s tried it.
@@craftycreek same! I love both though. I know a few years ago they had a pickle juice slushy. It was ok to try but not get again lol. I prefer pickle juice popsicles 🤣
We always had that drink in high school in Texas during the 90s. It is an old thing!
We like their chilli cheese tots and love their ice tea.
I don't so much like Sonic's food, but their cherry limeade is amazing!
I don’t think I’d like pickle doctor pepper, but I like that you can customize like that.
hi emmy! big fan. would be way more going around if u made shorts from these long vids
Not having a cooler for the ice stressed me out so much idk why 😂
For the love of all things chocolate, that was driving me absolutely bananas!!! I thought I was the only one! I thought for sure our Emmy would be prepared with an ice chest…then she wasn’t! My brain would NOT stop about the melting and wasted ice😂
We just got Sonic in Everett Washington about a year ago.. my favorite is their vanilla ice cream.. its lovely.
Emmy next time you go you should try an Ocean Water! Super refreshing especially in summer 🥰
My husband and I always get an Ocean Water soda! Basically lemon-line soda with blue curacao and coconut syrup. Really tasty and refreshing.
Ithaca is Gorges! Love the shirt. Wish we had a Sonic around here.
When I was a kid many eons ago, legend had it that Dr. Pepper was carbonated Prune juice. And that the 10-2-4 on the side of the bottle signified that it kept you regular.
The 10-2-4 refers to when you should take a break and have a “pepper”
Too funny.
The formula does actually contain prune extract in the flavoring.

this made my little okie heart so happy!! My dad would always take me and my brother to sonic every friday for their shakes back in the day when they had half priced shakes and blasts!!
The pretzels are amazing!!! Made fresh every time!!
Large diet cherry limeade slushy and a corndog with a couple mustard packets. A nice afternoon treat, especially when it's hot outside. Yum!
In Pennsylvania it 4.37 for 10 pounds bag!
I love love love the breakfast toaster with bacon, with tots and cherry limeade or vanilla coke.
Ocean water is the BEST!!!!
Yes! Ocean water is premium stuff
I've never had the Ocean Water. What does it taste like?
@@paulabailey9791 it's blue like the ocean but tastes mostly like coconut, maybe some citrus in there? It's delightful though, and I'm not even a huge coconut fan.
Emmy! You missed out on the best ONION RINGS ever!!!
Literally best onion rings out there, hopefully she goes back!
Overrated
I agree!! And the portion is pretty decent, too.
Yes indeed. They put ice cream in the batter, apparently! The sweetness really goes well with the flavor of the onions.
@@lightbearer972 ohhh no way, I always thought they tasted too much like funnel cake for me... that makes so much sense
So good.
Cherry limeade is sprite and maraschino cherry juice
Never been more crushed than to learn that Emmy doesn't like Dr. Pepper
Sonic has the best ice. So good!
Congrats on 3m!!!! I’ve watched your old videos since a kid!❤❤❤
I recommend the CRANBERRY limeade ❤ also chili cheese tots😊
I never knew sonic sold that ice 😲❄️ I'm definitely going to get some now !!!🥰
I’m suddenly hungry for all of this! Thank you Emmy, and happy THREE MILLION!
Thank you!🧡
