Yeah, they tried to go very healthy with these instant ramens (except for the salt amount which is a whopping ~37%), which is why they don't taste very nice. For example, ingredients for the noodles: unbleached wheat flour, sea salt, vital wheat gluten. It says the noodles will be cooked in 6 minutes, but realistically it can take up to 15 minutes.
There was a lot of talk about the noodles not being all the way cooked and raw and not the right kind of noodle for a 3 minute soak, but I feel like it was forgotten that the instructions called for a 6 min soak, maybe going with half the soak time was part of the problem
Her comment about a 3-minute preference notwithstanding, she did end up waiting a full 4 minutes between preparing the last cup (Spicy Miso) and tasting the first cup she’d added boiling water to (Chicken). I would say that took her at least 6 minutes while she took her time to sample each one, - seeing as she went in order of preparation (1, 2, 3) and there is a lot of time lost while filming before final edits. These noodles appeared to have been parboiled then air-dried, but were not pre-fried before packaging like the squiggly ones typically are. That might taste more raw as the wheat flour hasn’t really been cooked before the boiling water hits them. Fun fact: there exist companies devoted to testing and selecting the perfect wheat strains with the optimal gluten elasticity to be worthy of mass-produced ramen noodles. There exist very serious critics worldwide on the valor of different noodles on the traditional ramen front.
she was talking about the noodles being different than the other 3 minute noodle in texture, not about the lack of time as she did stated she let them soak for 4 minutes and the soup is barely steaming unlike normal 3 minute soak. Context clues aren't that hard to see
The last thing I tried from Trader Joe’s (TJs) was their vegan tikka masala sauce (comes in a clear plastic pouch next to other sauces/soups). I found it a bit too mild and too bland (“one-noteish”), so added extra spices (garam masala, sugar, cayenne pepper) and a little half & half and it was much better to me. Had it with chicken. So not bad, but having to doctor it up makes me feel other options are better.
I actually have found Aldi's jarred Indian sauces to be better and I didn't have to add anything. They have Tikki Masala butter chicken one and a coconut masala ❤

Those look exactly like Mike's Mighty Good craft ramen cup noodles, enough to suggest that they might be the the same noodles under a different name. Despite how tiny they look I find them quite filling.
My guess is they are made by the same company. I didn't like Mike's the first time I had them, but that was mostly because of the noodles. I started cooking them longer and they were much better. I eat them fairly often now.

I’ve been seeing these cups my last couple TJ’s trips and thought the same thing. I was gonna comment the same thing when I saw the video, these definitely have to be the same ramen with a different label
I've had them, the noodles can take up to 15 minutes to fully cook and they get better, but not much. The reason for that is because they're "healthy" noodles made from unbleached wheat flour, sea salt and vital wheat gluten. Not something you'd expect (or want) from an instant ramen.
If the flour tasted raw, I would definitely recommend trying a stovetop preparation where you actually boil the noodles in the broth for the 6 minutes rather than letting them "steep" as that might help both the flavor and texture.
They taste like protein noodles or like sawdust and pea protein noodles lol and they flavored the broth with their nastiness unfortunately! I thought mine were expired and then when I saw they were not I took a hit to my self esteem thinking I only like the cheapest of cheap instant noodles 😅
Emmy you missed the 1960s. In response to the Toastums and Pop Tarts, there was a toaster Cringle. They were awesome. Individual Cringles packaged in foil. They came in chocolate, vanilla and cherry
Did you say the broth is confused? 😂 I've tried Cup o Noodle soup a couple of times and didn't like them. I do like chicken Top Ramen. I add baby green Sweet peas to the noodles and cook them. I drain off all but about 1/4 cup of the water. I add cooked chicken pieces, seasoning packet and a slice of butter to the noodles and peas. It's creamy, buttery and so good. A meal in itself. 💜.
We like TJ’s pot stickers and I use their French Roast decaf beans in my Chemex pour over. Learned to not use boiling water or the coffee is bitter. For a once in a while snack, I like their Granola bites, too.

My favourite instant noodles are the Korean broad ones. I particularly like the sesame paste ones and the tomato ones (but I haven't seen the tomato ones for a while). You strain the water off then add the seasoning. I don't use all the chilli! I like the chewy texture!
Over my life of 46 years. I started paying $0.10 to $0.75. I stopped buying noodles cups. At $0.89. But we can make them. 1 bullion packet And dry rice noodles. The cup a mason jar. Or vacuum packet. To a coffee mug. With lid. Packet in the cup. I do not do novelty food. Flash color or shiny foil will not convince me.... Cool vid.... thanks. Emmy We love ya...
You chose to not let then sit for the full 6 mins they recommended. Diff noodles probably required the additional to fully cook. Your complaint was the noodles had a starchy, doughy taste. Probably because they were under cooked.
I doubt 2 extra minutes would have made the texture any less mushy or doughy. Undercooked noodles would be al dente. Plus with all the time it took her to describe the flavour of the first one, the 2nd and 3rd should have tasted better by your logic cuz they were "fully cooked" but they were just as bad 🤷🏿♀️
I agree. In addition, if I'm not mistaken these noodles aren't the deep fried noodles in what most people know to be ramen. I eat ramen that doesn't go through the same process of say Nissan or Maruchan. The noodle texture is definitely different. To each their own. Maybe boiling it in the broth will help. If I had to choose between the deep fried excessive sodium flavorful ones over the healthier choice with bland flavor and healthier processed noodles then yeah. I can always doctor up the flavor. My opinion.
My lovely sister in law drives from Canada to the US just to buy these noodles. I'm a sad girl with a sesame allergy so I can't personally attest to them but she swears by them. 😅 Interesting to see your POV. She says she takes them out of the packaging and boils them on the stove for 6-7 minutes though; steeping them doesn't cut it according to her
One decent americanized ramen is sapporo ichiban (the company, sanyo, is about 3 miles away and looks like a really big warehouse with nothing going on). Even the American version of shin (and shin black) leaves much to be desired when compared to the korean one. I have one recipe that makes top ramen good: Three packs of chicken ramen (boil just over 2 minutes, not 3), two seasonings, three tablespoons honey, two tablespoons spicy mustard, one dozen chicken nuggets. No water, it's a dry recipe. Add some hot sauce to give it a zest. That's honey mustard chicken ramen. If you want to upgrade it, use sapporo chicken flavor. Do not use maruchan, the noodles are too soggy.
Dollar Tree recently starting selling, in my store anyway, this Twisted Noodles Ramen Soup brand in a cup like those. But only in chicken flavor that I've seen so far. But I really enjoy it more than Instant Lunch and Cup Noodles brands. You should try it and they come in a pack of 3 for $1.25. I've only ever seen it at Dollar Tree so idk if it's considered a Dollar Tree brand.
Thats like a single mouthful of noodles. I strickly stick to Maruchan BEEF, usually 2 packs is good enough. The only CHICKEN I'll eat are the Samyang Buldak. Right now I'm into the Nissan Fire Wok Beef Yakisoba and the Maruchan Yakisoba Fire Spicy Beef flavor.

@@skeetsmcgrew3282 110%! Shin Black is just fantastic.
Hello my fellow Western New Yorker.
Awesome video 📹 Emmy 😊 next time I go to Walmart, I will probably buy instant noodles 🍜 lol because of this episode 😆
My favourite instant noodles are the Korean broad ones. I particularly like the sesame paste ones and the tomato ones (but I haven't seen the tomato ones for a while). You strain the water off then add the seasoning. I don't use all the chilli! I like the chewy texture!
Glad i watched this.. i could definitely tell why i wont get these..similar reasons fir not getting other instant noodles /soba
Just tried the chicken flavor. Very rubbery and I found the broth to be flavorless. Thank you for your reviews. They are always very helpful.
Over my life of 46 years. I started paying $0.10 to $0.75. I stopped buying noodles cups. At $0.89.
But we can make them.
1 bullion packet
And dry rice noodles.
The cup a mason jar.
Or vacuum packet. To a coffee mug. With lid.
Packet in the cup.
I do not do novelty food. Flash color or shiny foil will not convince me....
Cool vid.... thanks. Emmy
We love ya...
Plus with all the time it took her to describe the flavour of the first one, the 2nd and 3rd should have tasted better by your logic cuz they were "fully cooked" but they were just as bad 🤷🏿♀️
instant noodles are fully cooked then dehydrated.
My opinion.
by the time she finished taste testing the first one, the other 2 would've been left for well over 6 mins
Overcooking noodles that are already too starch would literally make them worse
As a second comment I'd have to say yes, these noodles look like the color of Udon noodles.. They do not look like ramen noodles.
Emmy deserves a Emmy. She never misses and is never wrong.
My lovely sister in law drives from Canada to the US just to buy these noodles. I'm a sad girl with a sesame allergy so I can't personally attest to them but she swears by them. 😅 Interesting to see your POV. She says she takes them out of the packaging and boils them on the stove for 6-7 minutes though; steeping them doesn't cut it according to her
I have one cup of these left and I will try that because the other two I couldn’t consume, even the broth was bad because of the noodle taste In it.
Ciao, personally i love Instant ramen, and i wish you all a wonderful new week, many greetings from brunswick in Germany and please stay safe 🙃
I still prefer saimin over ramen. That slightly ashy flavor from saimin noodles is something I crave all the time.
Label: "cook for 6 minutes"
You: "I'm not going to do that"
Also you: "why are these noodles raw????"
Genius
The cup and tear away cover probably cost more than the noodles themselves.
Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips in Chili’s and Lime flavor! OMG so tasty!!
You should try Trader Joe’s canned goods!! Also love your vids
You mentioned you made instant noodles when the power was off. How did you boil the kettle? 😅
They have cordless battery powered kettles :) inexpensive too, saw some at Walmart for $15 the other day!
There are also these fascinating things called gas stoves.
@@tidusrodriguez5096 well duh
They might change they recipe based on this
I was just looking at these on their website the other day and wondered if they're good.
My aunt and uncle live in Vermont and we would travel through the Finger Lakes to get there.❤
I’m from Vermont! Now in Florida lol. There’s a Trader Joe’s in south Burlington VT
The Finger Lakes are so beautiful#
Definitely geared more for the Western pallet.
The Korean Korean offerings are still my go to..
The Princess pastry is supposed to have pearl sugar and hazelnut slivers on top, it’s quite boring without it 😊
Dollar Tree recently starting selling, in my store anyway, this Twisted Noodles Ramen Soup brand in a cup like those.
Immediately knew when I saw this video how things were gonna go. I was excited to try these when I first started shopping at Trader Joe's and saw these. MAJOR disappointment when everything else I had from TJ's was fantastic up to then. I still can't believe they sell them because idk who is buying them consistently.
I’m surprised those are TJ’s? They look ridiculously tiny. Double the noodles and flavor pacs (still a little small) maybe I’d think about it?
Usually TJ's brand is really good. Im surprised they would put out something so bad.
Have you tried their Peanut Butter cups? My friend from France says they're the best.
Maybe the danish is better dipped in coffee.... *fingers crossed
ps I just kept waiting for you to call those noodles ...... instant spaghetti ...*chuckling
Sorry, not related to this video, but I'm curious if it is possible to make a 12 inch English muffin pizza.
“What do you think, chickens?🍜" :P
I completely agree with you Emmy. I really wanted to like these, but the noodles were a big disappointment!
The broth is confused 😂
The broth is confused. 😂 I think the whole noodle cups are confused. 😂
I LOVE the dolmas and you should try them next! Otherwise known as stuffed grape leaves. They come in a can and I buy them to keep on hand for lunches. I get the ones stuffed with rice. They used to have quinoa ones but we didn’t like them at all.
I’ve never tried dolmas, I will ask my bf to grab some next time he’s there 🎉
Those are a VERY popular item! People tend to really like the dolmas, and it’s not unusual for them to be running out by the end of the day.
Every now and then I crave the flavour of grape leaves. I love dolma
I also would of added soy sauce.
They taste like carboard. Tried 2 different ones.
How often did the power go out when you were growing up emmy???
