Late comer to the DDJ world! Bought my first set of 1210s in 1991 and had been buying vinyl since around 1985. Recently woke up to this new fangled approach to DJing, the digital realm. Ooooooh, you lucky, lucky bastards!!! Bought a second hand S4 mk 2 yesterday to dip my toe in and see if I like what looks incredible to an old school spinner. These videos, and the series, look incredible for someone starting out. Thank you so very much for sharing your obviously hard-earned knowledge for free here on RUclips. I think, with your help, this could all very well start making an awful lot of sense! Kudos DAVE, massive respect!

26:10 I have filter there because the effects bar uses the effects in the order you have them. Thus you can decide whether you wanna have the filter before or after the other effects.
Don’t quote me (and I know this was 4 years ago and perhaps older version) but I think play count and the played marker are different attributes. The play count is a total ‘ever’ since you added the track to your collection, so you can see which tracks you play the most etc. the tick only shows you if you’ve played it in your current session. Both are very useful but for different reasons : )

Really good video , can’t wait for you next one on remix decks sample decks I just got the s2 mk3 and and would love some help figuring out how to configure the pads to trigger loop samples just once by holding the button and perhaps pressing the pad below to keep it looping on and off
can you use the bottom row of the buttons to activate loops, or you can only use them to mute? because in NI introductory video, the presenter used buttom row buttons to mute the top row ones... Thanks!
I’ve done a custom mapping I’ll try put a short vid up I think the mapping could be enhanced more tho where the echo freeze disallows you to load onto the deck side until you deactivate it wish I could figure that bit out

I keep hearing clicks/ clipping on my traktor s8 with this new version of traktor on my HP omen everytime i change up a track. I tried adjusting the buffer size to 1024 , which is the only one that kind of works. But unable to fix a proper solution, could you please guide me how to solve this?

11:47 - is there a button to change the tempo range on the S4 MK3? I've recently bought it (for 4x deck mixing and DVS) but have kept my XDJ-RX - all Pioneer gear has a dedicated button to change the tempo slider ranges so would be surprised if Traktor didn't. I don't want to touch the laptop when DJing and also it seems a bit silly to have to go into the settings each time you want to change the tempo range (particularly if an open format DJ).

Cause when i play using usb flash cards its fine, but when i using HID and CDJ i couldn't speed up or speed down track normally. I want to use CDJ as CUE, Play, speed up with jog wheels.

Dave been a while since we last spoke, my Traktor setup and DJ’ing is going really great! Just a qq for you - a DJ friend of mine is frustrated when he comes over with usb because his pioneer playlists don’t show up in Traktor and he has to scroll the folders to sort his music, is there a way through the settings or something that Traktor can read Pioneer playlists from a usb?
Glad to hear it’s going well :-) So rekordbox folders can’t be seen unfortunately so I’d advise him looking at recordbuddy2 where the software can see rekordbox, serato and traktor cue points etc. What I do personally is make a crate in rekordbox and export as a playlist and then as songs so I can see them.
In the newest Traktor 3 preferences, there is "Apply Headroom to Channel meters" in Mixer > Internal mixing mode section. Do you tick that option? Why? Thanks for all awesome videos Dave!
Thanks Won, Applying headroom is like a limiter so instead of it going to 100% and then clipping and possibly distorting, it will stop at say 80% leaving it safe to push up full. Does that help?

For whatever reason when I right click on a file in the browser window the Preferences menu pops up. Is there anyway to make this stop? I have a feeling that I inadvertently changed a setting but for the life of me I can't figure it out.
Hey ! Can you please tell me if there is solution to fix my problem. MY traktor S4 MK2 has this problem of not able to load tracks using load button right side on deck B. Also sometimes it auto loads the track into deck B. The buttons and cue tack 1 button flickers light and there is no problem whatsoever with the left side .can someone help me .
is there a way to turn off the auto que point 1 when I load a track? this is driving me crazy .. i don't want my first que point to be where they put it... Thanks
Hi Dave, I have a Traktor Control S3 which I absolutely love. What's baffling me is while watching some of the top DJ's sets on RUclips, you never see them using the pitch control but always see them nudge the jog wheels. My DJing originally comes from the good old SL-1210's where you cannot get away from using the pitch. I've seen Fatima Hajji using the pitch before but not many others. What are these DJ's up to?
Hey I still rock my 1210’s they are the best :-) So a lot of people now will process their tunes in their chosen software like you would in traktor and obviously then you can use sync if you want. Meaning all you need to do is nudge the job wheel if needs be to align them but no need to change pitch. Also a LOT of ‘pro DJs’ warp their tunes so they are all the same speed. Therefore leaving the pitch on 0 and then just using nudge platter again to align. Fat Boy Slim is famous for it as he admits he’s not the best dj in the world. Lastly too many ‘djs’ make their mixes in a DAW and then mime 😞 so they touch things to look like they are doing something.

I don't personally see anything wrong with that, but I guess there'll be DJ's out there who would condemn such a thing, also like using sync, which again I have no issue with because you still have to know that art of blending soundscapes together to make your performance sound the best it can. 💯 I am one who protects people’s right to use sync as in some cases it’s absolutely necessary. It’s when people only can use one thing do I then recommend them learning other aspects incase it goes wrong. Trust me in 28 years of djing a lot has gone wrong with my djing and luckily learnt from it 😂
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert Not gonna lie, having began my DJ journey some 30 years ago on the venerable 1210s, I would have openly scoffed at sync users. However, I have seen the light. It would be the same as condemning every digital photographer who uses manual mode on their DSLR. The technology exists. If the tech helps you be better, then to simply brand the user as something less than those who don't is narrow-minded in the extreme. You do you, just have fun doing it, and be proud of the results.
Hi Dave, I've got the S4 MK3, and now you can modify in the controller manager the mapping, so I'm in a trouble maybe you know how to solve it. When you select Channel A in TT mode, can move the pitch, and get 150bpm. Now change to C, and if you move pitch, and is in a different position than A channel, when you come back to A, is going to be a difference with the pitch. I know how to adjust it not to move if you don't get to the previous position, the matter is that when I map this, Channel A pitch in S4 appears in traktor (computer) as channel C, and channel C appears like A. It's crazy, but I don't know how to solve or map this.... Do you have any idea how to do it?? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the great tutorial! However I still can't find where I have something set wrong for the following issue: "CUE'ed track wont play until I press Grid" These are the steps I follow: * I load track onto deck * I then Cue track using Jogwheel and hitting "CUE" * I then hit "Play/Pause" when I am ready to play the song and occasionally (+-50% of the time) it starts playing HOWEVER: * Occasionally (+-50% of the time) when I hit "Play/Pause", the play button lights up green on the traktor pro 3 panel, but the song doesn't actually play. * I then found that if I hit "GRID" the song will start playing only after this. I wonder why this is? I didn't have to use the GRID key in the past, only after reloading the software on a new device after a few months off.
Hi Allen that’s very odd. You have to make a grid cue or anything to play the song. Out of interest if you turn sync and quantise off does it make a difference?

@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert I can sync the tracks and it stays in sync for a couple of seconds, but then the button flashes red and it goes out of sync.
Useful video... But as I can read reviews on some forums, all Traktor MK3 series, have problem with MASTER VOLUME?! Its very low. You must open it from half and more for get some "good" sound and even that its not very loud (satisfied)... #NativeInstrumenst got something very bad about this... Any answers or suggestion about this...? btw I get my S3 before 3 months ...
Hi and thanks for the comment. I personally haven’t had an issue with the sound output of the S4 mk3. I’ve used this for big gigs and it’s been fine. I’ve used it alongside other mixers and decks and stood up well. Oh great about the s3. Hope you enjoy

Great video learnt a couple of things 😊... could you help me ... im running windows 10 - i7 - 16gb ram - 256ssd and 1tb 7200 storage hdd - although the load in traktor is around halfway or more and spikes every 30 sec or so - ive tried pc optimization and running at 512... how can i reduce load ??

Great video man & thanks. I just got a MK3 today and the day has been long in regards to setting the up. I would love some help from anyone please. My original setup is: two turntables, a DJM600 mixer & Traktor Audio 10 DVS . I would like to create a hybrid setup where I leave the original set up in place, the clip my Traktor 4 MK3 on top to use either or. Then I can take the MK3 to gigs or loan it to a friend and have the original setup. I'm not sure it is possible or do I just sell my DJM600 as now it's in the way? Sorry I forgot to mention the problem: No matter how i try to hybrid the two systems. The head phones on the MK3 will not work and the DVS signal is very low. I would appreciate any help guys. Thanks PS. Only one request for your next live-stream. Could we get it in 1080p. It's a little hard to read the text for who lack 20/20 vision. Otherwise it was great info.

I'm having serious issues with the headphones output. It's not working at all.. I've tried re installing traktor pro 3. (3 times) It's like the signal is not mapped to the controller.. :(

Dave, what do you recommend setting the master level on Traktor Pro 3 to? I find that 0dB is actually causing distortion and does not equal to 0dB on my external mixer. Therefore I find that a level around -8 to -10dB on my Traktor 3 software usually gives me a nice green signal with no distortion and I can then manually set the trims on the channels of my external mixer to mix at 0dB master level..
Hi Ankur, it all depends on the quality and volume of each song but I have mine so it’s just under the orange and all green and then I use the trims on each channel to keep it all in check so no nasty red lines :-)
Tell me how to use headphones , and 2 tracks playng same time one will be directed to headphone and another one to a 5.1 system :) I just want to hear how they sound together before i mix them :)

Hi quick question. I am running the pioneer djm t1 and when I go into my audio output in traktor. It won’t let me bring the sample rate down to 44.
Unfortunately not. Same as the S8. It’s held at 48.

Base speed is for dvs (digital vinyl system), for example, if your turntable is at 33 you want traktor to be at that base speed too.

Hi Science. Good question but unfortunately no. You could midi map 2 buttons to do it for you though so there is a work around.

How did you get the custom logo for the jog wheels?
They are actually stickers for the middle on your vinyl. You can get them made anywhere that does vinyl stickers. Shout if you get stuck.

For whatever reason when I right click on a file in the browser window the Preferences menu pops up. Is there anyway to make this stop? I have a feeling that I inadvertently changed a setting but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Hey ! Can you please tell me if there is solution to fix my problem. MY traktor S4 MK2 has this problem of not able to load tracks using load button right side on deck B. Also sometimes it auto loads the track into deck B. The buttons and cue tack 1 button flickers light and there is no problem whatsoever with the left side .can someone help me .

Hi Dave, I have a Traktor Control S3 which I absolutely love. What's baffling me is while watching some of the top DJ's sets on RUclips, you never see them using the pitch control but always see them nudge the jog wheels. My DJing originally comes from the good old SL-1210's where you cannot get away from using the pitch. I've seen Fatima Hajji using the pitch before but not many others. What are these DJ's up to?
Hey I still rock my 1210’s they are the best :-)
So a lot of people now will process their tunes in their chosen software like you would in traktor and obviously then you can use sync if you want. Meaning all you need to do is nudge the job wheel if needs be to align them but no need to change pitch.
Also a LOT of ‘pro DJs’ warp their tunes so they are all the same speed. Therefore leaving the pitch on 0 and then just using nudge platter again to align.
Fat Boy Slim is famous for it as he admits he’s not the best dj in the world.
Lastly too many ‘djs’ make their mixes in a DAW and then mime 😞 so they touch things to look like they are doing something.

I don't personally see anything wrong with that, but I guess there'll be DJ's out there who would condemn such a thing, also like using sync, which again I have no issue with because you still have to know that art of blending soundscapes together to make your performance sound the best it can. 💯 I am one who protects people’s right to use sync as in some cases it’s absolutely necessary. It’s when people only can use one thing do I then recommend them learning other aspects incase it goes wrong. Trust me in 28 years of djing a lot has gone wrong with my djing and luckily learnt from it 😂
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert Not gonna lie, having began my DJ journey some 30 years ago on the venerable 1210s, I would have openly scoffed at sync users. However, I have seen the light. It would be the same as condemning every digital photographer who uses manual mode on their DSLR. The technology exists. If the tech helps you be better, then to simply brand the user as something less than those who don't is narrow-minded in the extreme. You do you, just have fun doing it, and be proud of the results.

I've got the S4 MK3, and now you can modify in the controller manager the mapping, so I'm in a trouble maybe you know how to solve it.
When you select Channel A in TT mode, can move the pitch, and get 150bpm. Now change to C, and if you move pitch, and is in a different position than A channel, when you come back to A, is going to be a difference with the pitch.
I know how to adjust it not to move if you don't get to the previous position, the matter is that when I map this, Channel A pitch in S4 appears in traktor (computer) as channel C, and channel C appears like A. It's crazy, but I don't know how to solve or map this....
Do you have any idea how to do it??

Platter scope shows (or hides) a few different icons in your deck. A platter turning, a calibration signal and a minimise button. :-)
Thanks for the great tutorial! However I still can't find where I have something set wrong for the following issue: "CUE'ed track wont play until I press Grid"
These are the steps I follow:
* I load track onto deck
* I then Cue track using Jogwheel and hitting "CUE"
* I then hit "Play/Pause" when I am ready to play the song and occasionally (+-50% of the time) it starts playing
HOWEVER:
* Occasionally (+-50% of the time) when I hit "Play/Pause", the play button lights up green on the traktor pro 3 panel, but the song doesn't actually play.
* I then found that if I hit "GRID" the song will start playing only after this.
I wonder why this is? I didn't have to use the GRID key in the past, only after reloading the software on a new device after a few months off.
Hi Allen that’s very odd. You have to make a grid cue or anything to play the song. Out of interest if you turn sync and quantise off does it make a difference?

Useful video... But as I can read reviews on some forums, all Traktor MK3 series, have problem with MASTER VOLUME?! Its very low. You must open it from half and more for get some "good" sound and even that its not very loud (satisfied)... #NativeInstrumenst got something very bad about this... Any answers or suggestion about this...? btw I get my S3 before 3 months ...
Hi and thanks for the comment. I personally haven’t had an issue with the sound output of the S4 mk3. I’ve used this for big gigs and it’s been fine. I’ve used it alongside other mixers and decks and stood up well.

It is a frustratingly great. It’s overall a great piece of kit but with the way I dj it’s not without its flaws.

@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert I have been using an S2 for 5 years, so there is some muscle memory that I will have to overcome. Other than that, I still havent really had a chance to dive in because of the defective unit. So I have a gig this weekend, I plan on warming up at home prior.
I still love and use my S2 mk2 and won’t be getting rid of it at all.

Great video learnt a couple of things 😊... could you help me ... im running windows 10 - i7 - 16gb ram - 256ssd and 1tb 7200 storage hdd - although the load in traktor is around halfway or more and spikes every 30 sec or so - ive tried pc optimization and running at 512... how can i reduce load ??

My original setup is: two turntables, a DJM600 mixer & Traktor Audio 10 DVS . I would like to create a hybrid setup where I leave the original set up in place, the clip my Traktor 4 MK3 on top to use either or.
Then I can take the MK3 to gigs or loan it to a friend and have the original setup. I'm not sure it is possible or do I just sell my DJM600 as now it's in the way?
Sorry I forgot to mention the problem: No matter how i try to hybrid the two systems. The head phones on the MK3 will not work and the DVS signal is very low. I would appreciate any help guys. Thanks

Dave, what do you recommend setting the master level on Traktor Pro 3 to? I find that 0dB is actually causing distortion and does not equal to 0dB on my external mixer. Therefore I find that a level around -8 to -10dB on my Traktor 3 software usually gives me a nice green signal with no distortion and I can then manually set the trims on the channels of my external mixer to mix at 0dB master level..
Hi Ankur, it all depends on the quality and volume of each song but I have mine so it’s just under the orange and all green and then I use the trims on each channel to keep it all in check so no nasty red lines :-)
