Is there a way to move loops around ? I know theres no move button like on the S4 but it’s a must have feature imo. Can it be done with the shift button ? Cheers
I hated the new rotaries so much that it lasted 26 hours before returning. The center nudge prevented me from turning in an effect without a dead zone. And no touchstrip to use anymore. That center nudge is a design error IMHO. Most effects go from 0 to full not from -50 to + 50. Today I drove around 250 miles and obtained an S8. It also has nudged pots in the effect combo's. But these are not nearly as pronounced as the Z1 mk3. All in all an impressive ma(s)chine.
been looking for your review... lets go... oh you give me more to work with... coming from K2 from A&H but want to be able to daisy chain my F1 to be able to setup more stems and sound effects.. like the new splash screens. for the different topics
Fantastic review! It's very comprehensive and brings me closer to making a purchase. I wonder if NI intentionally left out an audio interface to encourage buying the Z1 alongside the X1. I'm planning a mobile setup, currently using an S2 + 2 F1s. For gigs where I need to fly, I'm considering replacing the S2 with the X1 and Z1 to reduce luggage and using only 1 F1 where needed.
Amazing detail, thank you. I received mine today. The unit is so solid and offers so much. What would you do about headphone monitoring? I've ordered a Z1 as I can't seem to get good monitoring in mixer mode but that's just me.
I hope they remake the F1 in a similar form factor when the come out with real time stem separation! I was also just watching a Serato vid and the guy was doing "Tone Drumming" or the controller pads were each set at a different semitone. That would be a cool feature on this or a new F1 as well!
Thank you for the review, I know I'm late to the party but just upgraded from the Mk1. Question if you have time... what's the difference between Absolute mode and Relative Mode weird I know
Not a weird question at all. Absolute mode is the one I use. What shows on the external mixer is what is on the software. So like for like. Relative mode has a sensitivity on it so it can move more of less than the physical movement of the fader.
I really like your videos!! ❤️ 19:59 -> Gridlock/Beatgrid . Do you have any video touching that (delicate) subject? I'm pretty new to all this. It seems it's not wise to delete this Beatgrid Hotcue 😅 I figured out you can click it whilst in Preparation Layout, then set Hotcue 2 on the same spot, then click Map and move Hotcue 2 to Hotcue 1. Beatgrid remains, but the Hotcue button turns Blue (Cue), Yellow (Loadmarker) or Green (Loop) so no more weird white Cue-point that I find weirdly white.. My tip for other viewers: Buy a second hand Hercules Starlight and Midi-map that for Track Preparation. It has an amazing amount of configurable buttons and knobs in a mini-format! So you can map it to have all 8 Hotcues, Loop + Move Loop, Beatjump, Set Beatgrid, Tap Beat to correct BPM quickly etcetera etcetera. Maybe @D.A.V.E you already made a video on it? 🙂
What would be your personal recommendations for additional hardware setup for playing remix deck in 3/4 and tracks in 4/4 in addition to 2 deck ddj 400controller? I know you were a huge fan of F1. I consider K2 or X1 or F1 with something. I even consider Behringer CMD series :)
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert thanks! Do you think it makes sense to have K2 and F1 or K2 alone is enough? I purchased used F1 to compare it with TouchOSC latest Traktor mapping. If it doesn’t add much perhaps I will keep TouchOSC for remix and stems. As for additional effect controls and 2 decks mixer would you choose X1 mk3 or K2? It would be great to have you reviewed latest TouchOSC official mappings for Traktor btw.
Whichever you prefer tbh. I think the new x1 mk3 is awesome and obviously great for traktor but it all depends on you and your setup. I used to use touchOSC but it was a bit laggy back in the day. I’ll need to check it out again. Do you have a link to the mapping? I used to just make mine up.
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert I ended up with a S4 in the end. Happy with my choice. I think I will use F1 and Behringer Xtouch Mini + win tablet as a portable set. BTW what is your latest course on Traktor? Is it on ADSR or you have others?
Hey Dave! Thank you for the great deep dive! Just got my hands on this device and I was a li'l lost on the midi mode for it. Tried changing a few functions but failed at it. Also tried to map a few functions with rekordbox but was blank on why it was not responding post. Could you please help with that? Many thanks! :D
The fact that there is no button to expand the collectionbrowser and you can overmap is sad. And I would really miss the track preview from playlist :(
Could this be used for beginners? For some reason I find these ‘analog controllers’ a bit more interesting to use than a typical dj controller.. plus it’s easier to transport
Completely your choice but see them as quite different units and use them differently. If you bought just one of these you could add it to your set up for the other fx groups for example.
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert thanks for the fast reply! my dream would be some stand alone units like the D2 with wheels - basically an s4 mk3 cut in half without the mixer
how you midi map you custom butotn knobs with the function in panel control? i see the midi signal blinking but seems is learn mode in not receiving it - any help someoone? ccould be lovely to custom the control as you wish (midi modeis for external controller)
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert could you please show us on how we could map this device? Had exactly the same dount! Would be great to have the bpm adjust handy as well
Too bad traktor software is years behind the competition. And the engineers refuse to listen to the end user features request! Why don't you make a video on the state of traktor software. it's so bad, they still haven't fixed the browser flickering bug that's been there for over 10 years now. Still no real time stem separation. Still no tidal integration. Still no flexible beatgrids etc! I hope you make that video
This looks a total hot mess, keys with abstract names, displays too tiny to be readable, clicks you won't hear while playing music, colour led's that flash underneath >.< major eyehell distraction, one thing cool is the kill buttons .. I'd rather buy a midi fighter and map it
Is there a way to move loops around ? I know theres no move button like on the S4 but it’s a must have feature imo. Can it be done with the shift button ?

Yes there is. You need the loop encoder on beatjump loop. Then activate loop and then hold shift and turn rotary and it will move said loop 😀

Thanks man. Just bought a pair of these for my Xone 96.
Dave, this was absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for the thoroughness!
Glad it was helpful!

Yeah it’s great. The Z1 is a great way to go for the form factor, sound card and headphone monitoring. :-)
Awsome as always dude 👌

Done 😊
Can you map the reverse button to change the hotcues to 5-8 like we can do with the flux button on the MK2?
You can map this like any of the other controllers.
are you sure? how you custom midi mapping? @@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert
how do i map it to do that? press reverse and the 1-4 buttons show 5-8 hotcues?@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert
In the configuration of the X1 you have the option to change the shift+numbers actions, you can set it to 5/6 and 7/8 hot cues
Hey D.A.V.E. how does the integration of the X1 mk3 and the Maschine micro work
hey is there any way to configure the x1 to control all 4 decks ? i tried modifyng the mappings but couldnt make it work
Hey. Let me have a play and I’ll come back to you.
The fact that there is no button to expand the collectionbrowser and you can overmap is sad. And I would really miss the track preview from playlist :(
I get what you mean, but (and this not perfect) but you do have it on other devices, if you own one of course.
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert well yes, your laptop keyboard :P
Mixing with just your x1 and a mixer is what it's designed for. Or so I assume.

Absolutely Alex. These controllers are very user friendly in my opinion.

not sure how to contact you could you do a tutorial on how to set up mikro mk 3 with traktor pro 3 .11
Hi feel free to contact me on digitalandvinylexpert@hotmail.com
can i use it in conjunction with my S2 mk3 to use the traktor fx
💯 this is exactly what i use it for and it pairs with the s2 mk3 really well.
should i swap my D2s for some of theses??

hey dave can i use this with a z1 and god to go ? just wondering how can i get the tracks when they out of sync thanks brother
100% you can link this with any other controller.
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert ok but how can u fix de out of sync in some occasions if theres no touch Bar like in mk2
This X1 comes with a nudge function with the arrows buttons, you can change them to nudge or beat jump

Hey. If you check out my midi mapping video, it will apply for this controller as well.
does this work with Spinach?
Where you been Dave!??
A long story. Hope you're good!
@@DAVEDigitalandVinylExpert glad you’re back
How do I revert firmware to the X1 MK3?
Thanks Dave much appreciated put this toward your next crack pipe 😂
Oh wow. My first ever! Thank you!
if youre using an external pre amp do you still need to connect via hid ina live setup?
This is only a midi controller and doesn't have a soundcard built in. So you would still need your setup as well.

Not anymore pro 4
All of that has been solved with 4. Except the flickering bug, of which I've never had and "tidal".
