@kickinrocks6055 A comet might seem like a bad thing, and to a lot of things, it is, but not to the earth itself. Meteors/Asteroids wiped out the dinosaurs sure, but it also created the moon, the tides, and contributed to the formation of the green earth of today. Even if a giant asteroid struck earth and wiped out all life today, the dust and disturbance would cool down the earths global temperature and reshape the landscape. This actually preserves the longevity of life on earth in the long run. Humans don't. In fact our very existence is a threat to all present and future life on earth. Think about the guidelines for what defines overpopulation, we "regulate" other species who become too populated in local environments, killing them, but what about ourselves? There's not supposed to be billions of primates in such small areas who constantly alter the environment and the landscape and sprinkle deadly plastic everywhere. Human overpopulation is a direct cause of the extinction of many species, and will eventually add up to more than the total species wiped out by the Chicxulub Asteroid. Humans don't want to regulate themselves, but they want to regulate others. This is where an asteroid can do some good, it will take care of global warming, overpopulation and all the negatives that come with it, and if it's big enough might even add another moon, changing the world forever and eventually increasing chances of genetic diversity. So in other words, an asteroid falling and hitting earth does more good to earth than humans do. They are definitely a force of nature, because like earthquakes, rain, tornadoes, tsunamis, ect, they are inevitable. Given how space works it's only a matter of time before a big rock hits us, and the destruction makes way for new creation. The world doesn't revolve around us

Oh I agree. I managed to watch this when I was about...I want to say 8-9, but I don't remember exactly what year in the 80's this came out in....my favorite character in this was Hector. As much as a Douche as he was when he first showed(putting the 80's moves on a Distraught Girl was NOT Cool), he was a decent Human being in the end ....
A school being easy to defend? Not really unless you’re talking about bunkering down in a classroom. Plus they don’t have windows to see out of very well almost all the time. These days the schools are locked and have either keys or badges to enter, back in the 80s it was probably just keys. So unless you find the keys to the school it’ll most likely be locked. And if it’s not locked then that’s a point of concern. The school doors I’m familiar with require a key to lock or a small tool with hexagon shapes. In my experience the interior rooms require keys to get into them. It might be similar back in the 80s. Overall, the size of the school along with the likelihood of needing keys to get it makes it a pretty terrible choice for a group of people that is small.
Also trading a truck for a Prius (which didn't even exist at the time) is pretty stupid. Trucks are higher and harder to reach. They have a bed and super large diesel tanks for long travel. You can literally turn em into a mobile base

Personally, in any apocalypse scenario, my first stop would be the local prison. You want to talk about being defensible, well-stocked, and inconspicuous? It's the perfect crossroads of all 3. Fences, barbed wire, concrete walls and an armory full of riot gear. A medical bay for prisoner triage in a pinch. And if there are any survivors, they're probably in cells and some of them might actually make valuable allies. They're likely to be physically strong due to all that extra free time to work out, and many of them might have grown up in low income areas, where they would have learned handy ghetto survival strategies or trades. Would I recommend it for the protagonists of this movie? Nah. Bad idea. Cute girls going to a men's penitentiary is dangerous even now. Let alone in an apocalypse. But for me? Armory is the first stop, I keep the keys and trap the door, and once we develop a genuine rapport, my allies become my generals. We capture and study one of the ghouls in a cell, to determine the extent of the damage and their capabilities. Then we focus on developing sustainability and reestablish some degree of civilized society.
This is one of my favorite apocalyptic ideas except you have to keep two things in mind: 1 - While many of the prisoners will be allies, there are a few that will just be too crazy or too evil to help. Being able to determine the difference is very important. 2 - Trust is everything in an apocalypse, and there are going to be some people especially in prison that will seem to be great teammates but will just be waiting to stab you in the back and take power. Managing the power dynamics and ensuring that you can give someone a weapon and know it won’t be used against you takes a lot of knowledge and skill.
