    I was born in Glasgow in 1941 have been in the USA for 50 years, I'm a Baptist minister, married an American 46 years ago. have two children an five grandchildren. I frequented quite a few of the bars in Springburn and in the city. I became a Born Again Christian in 1973. I am proud of my Scottish heritage, but I am now proud to be a Christian and an American.

      I was born in Springburn 1958 was reborn 2008.
      I am now a grateful spiritual citizen of Israel, and bodily of Scotland. Part of me expects to be raptured and taken home to a place which has been prepared for me by the Lord. May the shield of faith and the sword of Truth protect you always.

    I was born at home at 36 Petershill Road Springburn in 1957. Not only does the place of my birth no longer exist but that section of Petershill Road doesn't exist either. There's a pathway instead. And in place of my house are a bunch of trees at the back end of the firestation which stands on the spot of the back courts where I used to play and run across to visit my granny in Auchentoshen Terrace. When I started primary school id Cross the road to Bedlay Street then walk across Paddios Park, the place I first kicked a football, The park no longer exists but is home to Petershill F.C. it was this team in their old stadium further up Petershill Road where I saw my first football match. At the other side of Paddios Park I turned left and there was my school. Hyde Park primary. Im surprised the building still stands. Practically everything about Springburn I remember from my toddler days is gone. My grandfather's Butcher shop on Springburn Road was knocked down to build a motorway and his house on Balgray Hill knocked down to build flats.old Springburn might be dead and gone but the memories live forever.

    They were dirty but fine buildings. Pity they didn't just renovate.
    What a mess the Bruce report made of Glasgow. Sad. Worse than the Blitz.

      Couldn't agree more. What possessed them to even think of demolition rather than refurbishment? No doubt they will say it was more cost effective to knock down and replace them. However, when you see that the Red Road flats have been constructed and demolished and compare the few tenements that have been restored eg.Petershill Rd.,Mansel St Barclay St . it tends to undermine that contention.

    A great compilation, many thanks. I was looking for the Springbank nursery I went to in 1963. It was set on a corner, slight sloping block, with nuns and maybe near a baker. I now live in Australia and hope to return and see the site (probably gone now). It would be nice to see the place anyway, hope you can give me a clue, thanks.

      Spring burn was demolished long before the devolved government and SNP leadership. You can thank Westminster and the Tories.

    • @AldoScotia
      @AldoScotia 2 года назад +2

      Tories?- easy to blame but Springburn always returned a labour MP until recently and for many years labour was in power and still Springburn was left to rot

    Left the area in 1962 but don't remember Springbank Nursery in Springburn.There's one in Paisley if you Google it you can get the post code and then go on Google Earth and zero in on it.
    Sorry can't be of more help.
    BTW the clip is taken off an old video tape put together by the late Andrew Stuart which was given to me by an old friend.
    You might like to try the "Reminiscences of Oldspringburn" site - there's folks on there who may know about the Nursery you remember.
    Good Luck.
