DON'T DO THIS! TRY MY METHOD INSTEAD!! I watched a TON of these videos and only 1 worked. I felt dumb after trying all the tools and straps. Just take off the plastic cap. Remove the bolt. Pour in some bleach and set it on 'Tub Clean'. I canceled the cycle at 0:50 and the washplate was there floating in the water. Stupid easy. The tub will drain automatically after a while or you can just close the lid and let it complete the cycle. I felt silly after trying to manhandle the washer! (Note: I'm 5'2" petite female and probably wouldn't have been able to muscle that thing off anyways.)

Currently having a beer and contemplating my choices as I watch my half-disassembled washer churn away on the clean cycle happy as a clam and a still-stuck agitator churning away.

Yall I tried EVERYTHING. NOTHING made it even budge until I poured the hot water on it. Heated some water on the stove just in case the faucet wasn’t hot enough. THIS WORKS. Thank you

Pour boiling water over the center and then use shoestrings to pull up the agitator. You’ll thank me later.

This method worked for me! If you think opening that can of biscuits on the holidays is scary, this is 10X as exciting LOL. I know it's common sense, but be careful as the wash plate can give at any moment after the wedges are inflated.

What i used for ge combo washer/dryer, is a 28 inch 4x4, wrap a towl at edge of 4x4 to not scratch washer, and a ratchet strap, wrap around agitator and then crank it, and pop open , was still little hard but got job done

I have some Teflon stock. Going to cut that into three wedges, and tap them between the agitator and drum to apply pressure at each of the three rib points. Then hot water. Fingers crossed. I’m trying to avoid a run to the store.

This worked great on my 7yr old GE washer (gtw680). I needed to pump it up some more after the hot water though. Turned out my basket was rotten underneath, piece of junk! But this trick was great. Thanks!

This is not 100% effective. It didn’t work for my Whirlpool. It is only 6 years old. Defective drive hub and design, IMO. I’d recommend trying this method as soon as your machine has trouble getting water completely spun out of clothes and as soon as you hear it make loud banging noises on spin cycle.

Take both hands and lift your drum a couple of times. Then shake the wash plate a couple of times and came right off. We did our Kenmore like that and had no issues.

I use thick cord. Tied about 3' of 1/8" black cord into a loop, feed it under, and wiggle it loose while pulling up. Took about 5 seconds to release it.

Get a can of PB Blaster to spray the bolt really well. Let it “marinate” then try with ratchet.

If it REALLY WONT COME OFF, loop 2 paracord hoops around the back of the agitator and connect these two loops to a strap and then a tow ball of a vehicle. Tie the base of the internal tub to a stationary point e.g a tree or another vehicle. Then do the obvious, drive away until something pops, hopefully its the agitator. I did this as a last resort and it worked a treat!

After you get the first bag in place, lube up the next bad and slide it between the first bag and the plate. Then slide it around to the next vane. If you don’t completely remove the centre bolt you can avoid the exploding agitator event.

The simplest way for those without windbags is to use a shoe lace. Fix the lace through sides of the wash plate and then pull the washplate out using the laces. It's simple

Mine popped off easy. When putting it back, put a dab of grease on the splines in case you need to take it off again.
