My great Aunt would pinch every plant she loved at the store.
      She had beautiful plants.
I guess one would imply it was stealing .
She believed she was doing the plant good by making new growth and her price for maintenance is a future plant. 😁
      Just saying...
What kills me lots of theses plant stores thrown in trash plants that are dying that just need some TLC.
I do believe they are expensive also but they should have a discount pile .

Put some ballast in the bottom of the pots and that should keep them upright. That's what keeps a sailboat upright.

Rachel, if you cut the float around your DIY floating pot in half to make in thinner, that would help a lot to make them less top heavy. Should still float too.

I'm thrifty as well. We have a creek on our place and a bog area so I'm gathering some plants from their, as well as other flowers I have in my garden that like a lot of moisture. So far I've not bought much for my pond except for a couple of creeping jennys, a few containers for planting in (on clearance). The tub was recycled from a tall tank the hubby got at work and we cut it down (and used the rest for raised garden beds). We have plenty of rocks and pebbles from the creek, and our place has heavy clay soil as well. I just need to buy a filter, fountain and some goldfish. I hope to have it up and running soon (except for the fish), thanks for the inspiration!

I freaking LOVE these videos! lol I think I have spring fever :) Edit: Ok, I don't know a lot about water plants, I guess I thought they went in rocks for substrate, not dirt - for the floating ones. So the dirt is going to filter through the pond water even though you have some fabric there. I did not realize that. This is kind of funny, I don't really pay much attention to plants at all. I have some tanks with plants (I pay zero attention to the plants) and they end up looking like nice planted tanks, magically I guess.

I have a 250l (should be something like 60-70 gallons) minature pond in my garden its running for the second year now and will be home for my Oryzias latipes for the summer.
    Plant wise i have:
    Under Water: Hippuris vulgaris
    Nymphoides peltata
    Ranunculus aquatilis
    Hotonia palustris
    Callitriche sp.
    Eleocharis acicularis
    Gratiola officinalis
And above water/sticking out or floating:
    Salvinia natans
    Lysmachia nummularia
Again Hippuris vulgaris,Gratiola officinalis and Eleocharis acicularis
    Alisma lanceolatum
    Myosotis rehsteineri
    Nasturtium officinalis
    Veronica becabunga
    Balidellia ranunculoides
Sounds like a lot but much of grows out the sides so in the end it fits
I tried to use mostly native plants
    Greetings from germany!

I started watching this video earlier today just after you posted it, but my daughter decided we are going out for lunch so I had to stop.
So now it is 11:30 PM, I am just finishing my evening coffee and catching up on the rest of this video.
I am so enjoying this series, I grew up in the country watching my grandmother plant her flowers and tubs with found ferns, Aquatic plants that grew around the edge of our lake.
This was way back when, like maybe 60 years ago. As a child, I did not realize that by helping my granny I would learn so much that was so valuable so many years later in my life.
It is so good to see a young person such as yourself that has the same qualities and approach to life and plants that I learned so many years ago from my grandmother.
Again I thank you, this is another joy to watch, and I giggled along with you.
Rest easy tonight, because tomorrow we all know that you will be busy as busy can be, and still not forget that we are all out here waiting for the next video.
    🐟 ☘️🌿

Rachel weight them down with a small rock to act as ballast. Not too big or it might start to sink as the foliage gets heavier. Might not work but maybe worth a try.

with the red Hibiscus (African Rose Mallow), you'll need to pinch it early in the season to get it bushy, otherwise it tends to grow straight up before branching late in the season. It should grow well, they love water.

I love all your tubs! I wish my patio was bigger. I cleaned out my little patio pond the other day and put white gravel on the bottom because last year it was just to dark to see my fish. I really want to make that waterfall for it too.
I put snails out and they are multiplying like crazy. I tossed in some water lettuce that I kept indoors over the winter . It survived but it stayed pretty small which actually worked out well.
So now that it’s out side I’m sure it will grow and grow!
I have to get over to the garden center to get more water hyacinth again this year.
Waiting for warmer temps so I can put out some fish for the summer!
I like the idea of the floating baskets !
Maybe you could tie and weight them down with a stone? Or a net that veggies come in from the supermarket? I know the little cutie oranges come in a net, just a thought. 😊

Might just need to over winter them in the fish room and get them going round about September/October. On the diy floatin pots. It might float better if you move the styrofoam right to the top edge of the planter and then have the styrofoam taper thinner to the bottom. Have no idea if it might work though
