The biggest part of this whole job is getting this clip off without breaking it. I don't know how many videos I've watched and how many broke this clip. Thank you so much!

Those clips are always a pain.

How fucked are you if the clip breaks 😢 I've seen a bunch of videos talking about the same problem with the clip of Doom. I don't want to start tearing shit out and then one little clip screws me from getting everything to lock in

@vb4496 well I guess I can not honestly answer that question since I didn't have that problem.

Plot twist. The clip itself didn't give me any problems.
It was taking the actual starter out from the bottom of the truck.
Apparently V6s are trickier with so much shit in the way. Spent 4 hours pushing and pulling and twisting and ended up having to reinstall the old starter back in.
      What a nightmare.

2015 Silverado was having weak starts, 10+ year old factory starter bench tested bad. Purchased a new Duralast Gold from AutoZone. Went to start the truck and it just had a loud whine, no clicking, no grinding, no attempt to turn over.
Also, looks like ignition clip broke and won’t click and lock in place. How hard to replace?
Thoughts on the issue with the starter?

@treyw3856 Well, first off I would not use duralst anything that involves an electrical rotating part. It does sound like an internal fault with the starter.

Thx for the reply. Wish I would have gone with a different brand. I pulled the new starter, and can see the very top outside edge of the starter gear ground down at an angle.
To my novice eye, appears maybe to be an alignment issue?

Pulled the new starter, had it bench tested, failed. The gear wasn’t extending like it should to turn the flywheel
Got my money back and will try a different brand
