American Bittern Fascinating Hunting Behavior

The American Bittern is a stealthy heron that likes to blend in with the reeds. It even sways its neck with the breeze, yet somehow manages to keep its head perfectly still! Watch it creep up on frogs to snatch them out of the water. Filmed 6/24/2020 at Three Oaks Recreation Area, Crystal Lake, IL.

Thanks! Yeah, this was at a parking lot retention pond of a fairly popular recreation area, so there was a fair amount of passersby wondering what we had our lenses pointed at. 1-2 wildlife photographers were also there coming and going. The only time I had it completely to myself was when it was pouring rain.😂
