This song came out when I was a young 23-year-old, and now I'm 60. The lyrics "well I've wasted all my tears, wasted all of those years" resonate even more, especially when you have life's regrets... please try hard, and don't have regrets when you're 60.

I'm 63, and fell in love with this song when it came out when I was a young woman. It's beautiful yet heartbreaking. I always heard that "Red" wrote this from his personal experience, having been in a less than loving home & ran away. I will have to look that up now! I'm curious if that is accurate. Btw, I went thru lots of crap in my 20s but then found a good man, got married & had a daughter. She's 28 now & I've been married to her dad for 33 years. No regrets on those years at all!! Just wish I had better health, but you can't have it all!!

What’s even sadder when you read the story of his childhood, others mentioned that his mother left him and it was also difficult for him to be brought up just by his father who had a lot of issues too. He met up with his mother many years later just once I think. She said she had no regrets of letting him go! Can you imagine a mom saying something like this? You are just about to find out what it’s like to be a mom and you could never imagine doing this to your child!

I'm just as guilty because growing up my mum would listen to Billy Ocean and I thought he was white until I saw the album cover.

Procol Harum was a British band, and Timi is American and part Italian. Timi had such a powerful, magnificent voice, one of my all time favorites to this day. My parents listened to anybody that they liked, Brenda Lee, Tom Jones, Dean Martin, Engelbert, it didn't matter, good music is good music, no matter who sings it. All of the above artists have stayed with me all these decades, and thank goodness for CD's instead of those old worn out snap crackle pop LP's. Listen to " Make The World Go Away" by Timi. Thinking someone is black/white has nothing to do with how well or powerful they sing. Robert Plant has a powerful voice, but no one thinks he's black. It has to do with the timbre of each voice, and qualities within different timbres that are normally associated with black or white vocals.

Simply Red is still making music today with their last album going to #6 on the British Charts. They've been much more successful in the UK and Europe with over 35 top 40 songs in the UK and 6 #1 Albums. Stars is the 11th biggest selling studio album of all time in the UK. Here are some suggestions. Holding Back the Years is from their 1st Album Picture Book. Listen to If you Don't know me By Now a remake of the Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes single that featured Teddy Pendergrass on vocals. It went to #1 in the US in 1989. . They are very hard to categorize as their music is a bit R&B, Jazz, Funk, Pop, and even a little Reggae. I'd suggest besides what I've mentioned Stars, For Your Babies, You've Got it, Angel featuring the Fugees Lauryn Hill from the movie Set it Off. Sad Old Red, The Live in Hamburg Video is great. Sunrise from 2003's Home which also had a remake of You Make me feel Brand New. ( He usually does a remake on every album, it's his way of paying tribute to the artists he loved growing up) Thrill Me (Funk) From 2019 I don't do Down or Thinking of you both Funk. If You like Reggae try Night Nurse.

I remember all the TAPES , before was 8- tracks , and i used to dig up my dads records as well , then to 8 tracks ,and moved to Tapes he had from Blues to classical Music and rock , i would listen to the different eras 40's 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's , all tapes and boy did he collect a lot from second hand stores and sometimes from the Main Stores.. The Beatles , Thin Lizzy , Black Sabbath , The police , Nirvana and so so many more , probably would have to take time to sit and gather to hear all.... but that is why we have fires , so every tale can be told for centuries to remember and now , we have songs , but why not have Both ...peace

I'm so glad you discovered this song. It's a very melancholy, yet soulful and beautiful song. It really needs to be heard by younger generations. Its one of those songs that I listened to growing up in the 80s, when I was feeling down, just to put a voice to how I was feeling. To get the sense that someone else knew the pain I was feeling was uplifting and comforting somehow!
