I have 5 consoles hooked up to HD Retrovision’s cables to a 27 inch Sony Trinitron and they all look amazing. Saturn, Genesis, Modded PC Engine, SNES and PS1. Its hard to describe how amazing these cables are on a CRT. There is no compatibility issues or lag when using these cables on a CRT. I have two gcompsw component switches daisy chained together and it allows for automatic switching. Now I guess I need to RGB my N64 and make it my 6th console to use these amazing cables.
Crazy my cables literally arrived today and I couldn't stop admiring the build quality
Could you do a side by side comparison comparing it against regular av cables and against the new HD clone systems?
I kickstarted these cables. Love them!

These also work great on an RGB modded NES with a Multi-Out Port!
Every time a new video from mlp arrives I know it's gonna cost me money.. Was looking for this cable a few months ago.. Now I have confirmation that it works. Thanks for the videos dude. Keep em coming..
I get mine from stone age gamer. Definitely don't pay scalpers on eBay.
I can confirm that these cables also work on an NESRGB modded OG Famicom! It looks just as good as it does via Framemeister+RGB Cable on my 40 Inch Samsung LED TV! I plan on getting one of the Genesis cables as well when Castlemania gets them back in stock! Great video Ron and I look forward to your future videos!
I'm using s-video on a retrotink 2x. Looks pretty damn good to me exept for Resident Evil 2 with all the resolution switching which causes some blackouts between scenes sometimes. I'm in a PAL region so only some early French N64's can be modded with RGB. They are super expensive so you might as well get the UltraHDMI. Special PAL modded S-Video cables can be had fairly cheap though.(builtin luminance correction if I'm not mistaking).Yeah in Europe we officially only got composite on the N64 "multi out" *oh the irony* . These RGB to component cables do look interesting for my snes though which does support RGB. I'll still have to connect them to the Retrotink 2x because my TV doesn't do 240p in any acceptable way. Stretches it out to some horrible ultrawide pixellated mess.
I just got the Genesis cables today. I was blown away with how good it looked. I used it on a LCD and a CRT that supports component. I was pretty hesitant over $50 cables but it’s worth every penny. Genesis probably is a bigger change that SNES since it has shitty composite and no S Video support without a mod.
There is an s-video adapter for Sega Genesis that does s-video output and it's quite good. No mod needed. Google for "SANTA Mega S-02 S-Video adapter". I have a "clone" of this adapter and it looks really good.
Interesting, I never knew that existed. Crazier thing is it looks like it may have been official or officially licensed.
You should try running Perfect Dark in Hi Res mode with this cable. I think it's doing 480i when it does that and you can run it in widescreen.
DontPaniku hmmm gonna have to try that out
If you’re TV doesn’t support 240P over component or doesn’t scale it up very well, you’re still going to need an external scaler. Also, who knows how much longer TVs will support component inputs.
Konami actually told you to hide the gameplay?! That's petty Konami!
I have a Genesis Model 2 VA1.8 with that godawful Samsung video encoder (so no S-Video mod) and the HDRV cables were a revelation. No more muddy, jailbar'd composite output for me!
Ordered a set. Thanks for the deal. In my living room I’m using the super nt but in my game room I’m running a stock SNES hooked to a Sony wega crt. My wega has hdmi and component so using these cables on it will look great. Now you have me thinking about modding my n64.
coupon still works! thanks can't wait till i get these cables
so wait, this has been a possibility out of the stock port all this time and we are just now getting these? mind=blown
Its magic though.... whatever they have done with the tech behind these cables makes it work lol!
From the dawn of the 90's
they came moving not so silently down through the decades. playing many great games. waiting until the time of the gathering when the few consoles that remained powered on to the last.
no one ever knew these cables were among you.......
until now.
But you need a quality scaler to make any use of these cables on an HDTV. Scaling 240p to 1080p or 4K with your TV's built in scaler will not give the greatest of results, especially in terms of input lag. Not to mention a lot of TVs will see 240p as 480i making things even worse.
Should have added can your tv output 240p. Mine cannot :(
Chris Pritchette I recorded this damn video 3 times lol and that was talked about in the first couple versions lol. Thought i mentioned it in this take but maybe not.
used that coupon code. Appreciate it brother!
great video bro
I'd really like to see a comparison between emulation, UltraHDMI, and HDRetrovision cable output. I'm mostly interested in what edge the UltraHDMI might or might not have over emulation.
Ron, what TV were you using? Everyone should make sure their TV supports 240p over component. Not all modern TV’s support 240p over component. CRTs with component should work fine. The HDRetrovision website has some tests that can be run to see if your TV is compatible and a list of already tested TVs. These are still excellent cables to use to get the best picture to an upscaler.
People undervalue a QUALITY cable... you can surely buy a piece of crap Chinese component cable, but you will get artifacting and buzz because they aren't properly shielded. Also, they aren't hand made and they aren't pre-tested to the extent as a professional cable maker. I've only splurged on custom cables once and I haven't regretted it for a second. The difference is SO apparent.
PabstOban I wasnt aware they made Chinese component cables is there a listing on eEbay or Amazon?
Great video show casing the HD retrovision cables. Quick Question how did you record your game footage? As for some reason my Elgato HD won't recognise the component cable to record I don't think it likes the signal at all. Any help would be great - The only way I can get it record properly if it 1st runs through my framemeister out into HDMI..... but not via the cables themselves. Also all my systems are PAL consoles so I'm using a PAL SNES
Nothing beats Genesis scart to component!
I would like to you compare this cable with the Purple Monster S Video for Snes and N64 and see how much difference there is.
Gametourny 4ever I have no way to record s video on my setup and if I use a svideo to hdmi converter it looks like crap lol.
Aw. I have all the cables but I don't have a capture device but the difference is very minor between those two from my sight.
Gametourny 4ever S video on a CRT still looks very good I have no problems with using it.
I actually have said purple s-video monster cables. I was lucky enough to find them at a good will.
I'd love to see that too! Did something similar with my PS1 adapter video, but I'm planning to do an N64 s-video comparison episode down the road.
Thank you for these awesome reviews. I wanted to ask I’m very not tech savvy. If these HD Retrovision cables will work on these newer 65” HD Samsung flatscreen TVs 2019 and up ?
So, to do all my systems that need these cables, I'm looking at $500. Still cheaper than a Framemeister, SCART cables, SCART switcher, and JP21 to Euroscart cable
Cardboard Sliver I don’t know if I’m too late but use a scart to component encoder it will be the same when using high quality scart cables but much cheaper then using only Hd retrovision cables.
This also works on RGB modded NES and PAL GameCube
I've upgraded everything to component along with my extron crosspoint. Friggn quality
Really love these cables! Have you tried their new PS1 adapter? I've been quite impressed with the captures I grabbed from it for my channel.
Yep love em, posted a couple videos on my FB group of them in action. Very impressed for sure~
I own the Sega genesis ones and they are GREAT! When I have the cash the SNES ones are on my list for certain.
I did not find these cables to be much better than using a properly made S-Video cable paired with a Retro Tink 2x Pro. I really cannot tell the difference when switching from S-Video to Component. Maybe if it was a side-by-side comparison it would help. Though I do not have two of everything so I can't do that.
Cool I didn't think of using them on a n64 and someone in the comments also mentioned the famicom av
I guess they should also work on a pal gamecube
I just preordered genesis 2 with 1 adaptor. yayyyy
How does the Sega CD look running through those cables?
Super curious
I know this is old, but they look great on Sega CD. I did a review of them on my channel and showed some comparison pics of games like Popful Mail and Android Assault. The difference is extremely noticeable.
I’ve been waiting for 4 weeks for Hd retrovision to restock I’m getting so impatient I really wanna play my ps2 games 😩
yeeess look sooo beautiful!!
Do you think these cables will work on a Samsung slim ¿¿ it´s not the HD version . It has 480i through component inputs. I just saved that thing from garbage and repaired it
I have a crt tv with component, will these cables work for that? Because my crt can only output 480i.
Should I get these cables to plug into my CRT with component, or is it not worth it unless you're running it through an HDTV?
If your crt has component than yeah, these are quality cables for that purpose.
What if I use them for a crt tv with component support?
Did you use only the cable without an upscaler direct to your led tv?? I have a 40“ samsung led tv that have the rgb sockets red green and so on it’s backside. Also have a „Gaming Mode“ on my tv! And I wonder if a upscaler is still necessary with using this hd retrovision cable?
anybody with a sony x930e or x900e can forget about it or an lg oled, these cables work for most samung tvs but if you have a newer 4k tv or are planning on upgrading these might not be for the future as every year less tvs will support them, i really want these and my samung tv supports them fine but i was planning on upgrading my tv sometime this year so i dont know what to do now, i would much rather play my original snes like this over the newer super nt for the simple reason that the super nt is not a super nintendo, say what you want about how great it is but its just not a super nintendo and i did not grow up playing a super nt every day i want the actual super nintendo look and feel but this might not be the answer in the longer run
Hey, do you know how this would compare against an OEM Nintendo S-video cable on the SNES?
There's a new update for the Super NT bro 🖒 nice video
Im on it! :P
I’ve got an SNES HD Retrovision cable that doesn’t work on my Sony Bravia TV. It does however display my PS1 240p games and ICO over my PS2’s component cable. I know it’s accepting a 240p signal because my old TV would blank screen at the PS1 and ICO 240p content. Any thoughts to why the TV isn’t locking onto the 240p from the SNES cables? Is the 240p from the PS1/2 component different than the 240p coming from the SNES HD Retrovision cable?
I can't find these to buy.
Gooin patout?
I thought you couldn't RGB mod a jungle green N64? I've looked, no details except that the chip number is incompatible. Can you link me to any solutions that will let me mod my jungle 64?
also what if you do ultraHDMI and then convert that to component (to get the options), will it look better than the HD retro cables even though it's the same input?
Will these cables still work with a non modded n64?
Watching this in 2020 , trying to figure out if I should get these versus hdmi with upscaling and line doubling as my HDTV puts out 240p natively. I still want a SuperNT, but I'm waiting till another run comes out. I have the cables by HDRetrovision for PS2, and I love them. Any suggestions would be great!
So my obs is not recognizing the component. How do you get it to recognize
How were you able to capture the 240p signal with your Elgato? Do you have an component to HDMI converter?
To go a little more in detail with the component cables for N64....even tho they will only really utilize full potential when RGB modded is combined....however can I still use these component cables without a mod even tho knowing it wont be improving picture....can I still just use them natively or will the system not even output without the added RGB chip??? Sorry but your "there's a Big but" doesnt answer that specific question. Otherwise ima get the MonsterC S-video to N64 cables and use a Framemeister S-video to HDMI upscale. Im not into modding or soldering classic hardware. Let me know I am very interested in improving picture on my N64 without soldering
Carboxylated won't work without the mod. Exactly as he said. You will get no picture otherwise
for the N64, I'm very curious. How does the SCART paired with an upscaler compare to component?
Never mind I answered my own question. I purchased these cables.
Are you using these on a LCD/LED TV or a CRT? I heard that a large amount of LED/LCD TV's either don't or incorrectly display 240P over component, probably something you want to mention before people start blindly buying these and yelling "WTF MLP?! Why don't these work on my TV?" Did you notice any input lag with your TV doing the 240 to 1080/4K upscaling? Looking forward to the Genesis video as well, thanks!
Josh Frye Its mentioned in my pinned comment. I rerecorded this damn video several times due to issues. I know id talked in depth about the 240p and no lag info but seems some of that info slipped my mind when i did the last take. I don't script things so its just whatever is floating through my brain lol.
Does it work with a GameCube if it was RGB modded?
I might get these cables instead of composite...
I’m sorry new to this, I just dug up my N64 so what needs to be done to use these cables with it?
Does anyone know if the n64 needs an rgb mod if ur gonna use an ossc
Is the HD cable compatible with original Super Famicom console?
I have both the sega and snes hd retrovision cables. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good component splitter? My tv only has one component input. Most on Amazon look like they might be junk.
Will the snes cable work with an rgb modded nes?
can ANYONE out there demo this cable on a bubble tube (SD) CRT that has component? very few bubble tubes have component, mine does, it's not progressive, so i'd like to see what it looks like. it is a 40" TV.
work with famicom av?
Madlittlepixel, I have these cables and a Super NT. Quick question, I noticed my super NT shows lines on the screen and I'm wondering if you noticed this and if it bothers you? It shows up when the system is displaying solid colors, usually blueish colors. It looks like a grid that correlates to the size of the screen. If I widen or stretch the screen the pattern changes. I just noticed this last night and now it's bugging me. I love my HD Retrovision cables but my wife doesn't love my huge CRT so I got the super NT so I could get rid of my CRT but now with these lines I'm not sure what to do.
Porter Rockwell Cant say that ive seen them. Can you email me a picture of the issue and what game your paying so i can try to mimic it? Also are you on the latest firmware 4.5? Email me at madlittlepixel@gmail.com
Madlittlepixel Ok I sent you an email with pics. Thanks!
Porter Rockwell Awesome! Ill take a look and see if I get the same issue and message you back tonight.
what capture card are you using for the cables?
actually i saw in your description that you're using a elgato exactly how do you have this set up? as i have a elgato as well and can't figure a way to record with it using the cables
virusinfection1 I think I answered this in another comment but I use my elgato 99.9% of the time but with these formats that it has trouble with I have a Avermedia Live Gamer Portable that handles them no issue. So im pretty sure I used the Avermedia card.
virusinfection1 its this version if ya wanna see.. amzn.to/2uzo5GH
Madlittlepixel thanks for the quick reply!
How are you able to capture this footage? My elgato can’t see 240p.
Elgato is a problem for a lot of my recording. Which is why I kept my old Avermedia Live Gamer Portable as I have no issue with it. Pretty sure I used the Avermedia to record this.
Does it work on the GameCube?
Do you think this would work on the GameCube?
retrovintagetec They work on PAL Gamecubes, which support RGB natively. The NTSC Gamecube supports component out of the box (but the cables will cost you).
Man I am so tired of these companies and there issues with people showing games on RUclips. Get over it guys. You are losing nothing by having someone play or show your game online, especially on a 20/30yo game.
yeah its lame. Konami and Nintendo are a couple hard asses with it. Ive played Super Castlevania in streams a couple times and shown it in videos before and no claims... this time though I got a claim immediately.
Madlittlepixel Someone needs to step in. Someone lay down the law on this.
Are they selling those again!?
tekgeekster Von-strooden yes
virusinfection1 YES! YES! YES!
Memes aside, last time I went to try and purchase these cables, they were sold out for some time. Glad I have an excuse to rgb mod my n64 now. I especially want to showcase this at the store I work at.
tekgeekster Von-strooden I’d try to order as soon as u can cuz I ordered mines on the 17th and got them the 23rd
virusinfection1 I'm not sure if I can now though. I need my money for something else right now, and I have a bigger paycheck coming in two weeks from now. I can play the waiting game, but I also don't want them to lose stock on me again suddenly.
Doesn't the n64 need to be rgb modded to technically output a sharper resolution with these cables??never mind had an add moment and wasn't listening
Overpriced
