    I think you have a good blend of car tech education and comedy. You are probably best when you dont trying to figure out what other people like and just being spontaneous.

    Get the next project car straight away and rack up 5-6 videos so you can release them weekly to get the continuity. Get the ball rolling asap and keep that format going. Don’t tell people what you’ve got though until you’re almost ready to start releasing the build series. Love the channel guys 👍

    people will always love to watch the supercars but i think the main reason the 300zx vid did so well is because its more relatable and obtainable for most, its something you can get into and show what your capable of without giving away the 'trade secrets' of your business, the oil pump video although technically great is only ever going to appeal to a small minority of people

    As a reference watch VAG Technic they give lots of mechanical content without showing or telling you how its done but enough to keep you involved plus with the right editing you let us the viewer see what you want us to see. I do enjoy you channel and think that your numbers would increase with this type of content.

    I have been watching your channel for a while. It's great to see a young un applying such attention to detail. I'm an engineer by trade and spent many years on aerospace projects, milling and turning to high spec. It means that I struggle to get anything done properly ( ie to the standard I worked to for years ) whether that's a van respray or a tyre changed and balanced.
    Get the technical build on vid as it sets you apart from the " I build loads of engine boss" types.
    The cross hatch / honing video had me smiling thinking most people have no idea of what your on about. But If I was building an engine I'd be anal enough to want to know that stuff. Do it right or don't do it.

    Rick mate, keep it simple, in other words just do what you enjoy doing and what you find most rewarding to put out into the ether! Don't play to the analytics / ever moving goalposts of the YT algorithm. If you do what you most enjoy and what you find moat rewarding, trust me, on a planet with billions of people of predominantly English speaking backgrounds, be it their 1st; 2nd; 4th or 7th language, they still understand English and for all those who don't there's always auto-translated closed captions. If you put out videos that shows you doing the things you love doing or are passionate about, that's infectious and if you do it long enough while remaining true to that ethos an audience WILL find you, and a large audience too - it just won't be overnight, it'll take time because a lot of it will be word of mouth recommendations, the best sort of advertising & referrals money can't buy!
    All the best, pal & try collaborating with 44teeth on the bikes a bit & other bike channels like Bike World with the legendary Chris Northover.
    All the best anyway in whichever direction you decide on!

    Hi Ricky - Lots of valid comments on a good way forward. There might be channels that get more views but I think (it's obvious which other channels I'm referring to....) the idiocy and laughter at that idiocy delivers a lower quality audience than channels like yours and Salvage Rebuilds do. I think you guys get a high quality audience. I agree strongly that your content could have continuity in following one or two builds and definitely including your bike race weekend. Maybe the youngster videographer idea you guys mentioned would be the means to that end? Love your channel! Cool to know that you guys re-built a McLaren engine for someone here in South Africa!

    The difference between your channel and most other UK car youtubers is that you're coming from a place of a successful business and then joining youtube. Most other UK car youtube channels start just with 1 car stripping it down and fixing it and then normally take it on a road trip or put it on track vs another car. But i could imagine when your running a successful business it would be hard to achieve this. Also most people who watch car youtube channels aren't to Intrested in the technical side of things they just like seeing a car taken apart then fixes up again. If you look at Matt Armstrong when he is taking something apart or putting it back together again it will be a quick clip mixed in with abit of humour and a little voice over aswell but again I can understand this is hard for you when your a business first then youtube 2nd.
    As someone who owns a VAG car I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing the comparisons to my BWA engine then to a v10 with the little things.
    I hope all you are well and carry on the amazing work

I’m aware you can’t help but compare yourself to coincidentally mates who just happen to be the world’s largest RUclips motoring channels (or whatever they are) 😂. I like the update vids and project cars., I quite enjoy the business and behind the scene rants, think this is really valuable and not often seen on youtube. but maybe I have a longer attention span than most?
    Listening to your feedback I wonder if the driftworks style might be a sweet spot/good start? They are very open that they are also a business first but I think the difference is people relate/more invested in the characters and the cars.

  • @melderosa656
    @melderosa656 5 месяцев назад +1

    The length of the video should be as long as it needs to be. Also your not a Matt Armstrong or Tavarish as REP is your primary business and theirs is making content for RUclips and they chose to fix cars for this content. I think your content is great and revolves around your personality

    • @fraserwright9482
      @fraserwright9482 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, as RUclipsrs are choosing (pulling) items to repair simply on entertainment value. RE is dealing with cars being brought to them (pushed) and Ricky using Mats business model of having multiple cars on the go has no effect on Mats revenue, he can record the videos and edit it to fit in sequence for the RUclips model. Ricky has a Noble on the ramp for a year costing him £120/HR and JDM cars that he can't get parts for. To do what? Attract other clients of old Nissans to RE? The Noble should be sold/auctioned off and stick to stuff floating in that he is getting paid for. I would not take my car to get fixed by Mat Armstrong if the local Audi or McLaren dealer was stumped as it would not work with Matt's business manager model either

  • @chrisberends-sheriff4989
    @chrisberends-sheriff4989 5 месяцев назад

    I love all your videos, I think the RUclips algorithm want you to focus a lot more on your video titles as I think you are missing a trick. Using questions in your titles will really help. Rather than the why warranties are USELESS, “are supercar warranties worth it? We don’t think so!” Etc. you’ve got the thumbnails down. Love the content and honesty 👍🏻

  • @Frank.Serpico
    @Frank.Serpico 5 месяцев назад

    Protecting you're IP and methods of operation are important not to give away I agree.
    A lot of what YOU know though is learnt over (served) time and can't simply be picked up from a short video or two, perhaps certain methods need to be guarded of course, especially stuff regarding NDAs but I think a large proportion do watch to learn and take inspiration from your expertise, which not many builders have your level of skill and attention to detail.
    Having said that, my preference is the expert building stuff, when you do actually reveal certain methods of precision that your average garage wouldn't even be aware of, just seeing things taken apart generally and rebuilt for me is fascinating...

    Ricky and Davla, I watch everything you put out. It all fascinates me. The professionalism you and your lads show is phenomenal , yet you still all have a laugh doing it. I completely understand ( AND so should everyone else) that you have to protect and not show your trade secrets. If you didn't then every fucker out there would be trying to undercut you. As a point, you when doing I think an R8 gearbox with Dodson upgrades would not show parts of what you were doing as it was a Dodson proprietary operation and you as their agent had to protect their own processes. It's the same with things that REP do. You can't show other professional 'Rivals' how you go about it. I was one of those who commented last weeks that I wasn't a fan of the car park walk round as from what you have said others did too. I'm glad you are at least giving it a try, you may bring it back you may not, that's your prerogative. Personally I love the technical stuff, which if I may say you are really brilliant at doing. And also the project motors, and yes sourcing parts, especially since Covid can be a pain in the arse even after this time. So for one am cool about how long I takes for you to produce a video on that particular project. Please don't get a cheaper version of Davla lol you and he spark together well and motoring wise he's a knowledgable guy having been on the scene a good while. 20 min vid? Well don't cut stuff short just to shoehorn stuff into the 20 minutes. It's ok if it strays three or four minutes over that's fine with me. Keep them coming, and RUclips bloodywell pay them decent money! You pay others for absolute shite videos, so pay REP for decent ones.

    With regards to the project cars.
    Follow mats lead and don’t realise the videos or even tell anyone you have the car until the project is done and then you can realise them once a week and people will get hooked.
    Very hard to follow a build when there is one video every month or two.

  • @timmymallett1
    @timmymallett1 5 месяцев назад

    Binky. But faster.
    As said, skip the carpark.
    I get having project cars is a common way of monetising mechanic downtime waiting on parts, just takes a while to get them done.
    Dodson unboxing ALL DAY LONG
    Prodetail is interesting stuff -I would understand though about telling people how to do stuff rather than bringing to a detailer is counter productive
    I went to Brewers down the road at the weekend and drove down and you wouldn't know you were there, is that deliberate? Only if I wanted a PADI diving course :)

    I guess you could hold stuff back to put it out in a more controlled manner so in future one of your builds could be held back and relesased weekly over a few months,,personally i dont care how you put material out

    Hi have you watched the Restomod format where the various employees have their own little section commenting on what they are working on and Rick acts as a sort of anchor and personally i would like to see you racing (take Dav with you)maybe do less videos ?

    HI Ricky, never commented before, you've a clear passion for your craft, this is clear, sometimes the videos are a big rough but this shows the authenticity, dont forget that.
    The video which bought me here was the V10 R8 & Gallardo gen1 engines.
    Bad - The parking lot thing is not a winner for me, Dyno meh... its interesting 1 time but again dont give away how you master your craft and tuning tips.
    Good - Techincal information is great. Hearing about differences between differnt models eg R8 & Gallardo.
    6:31 - Apparently 15-25 minutes is thought to be the optimal length for most youtube videos, it better gets into RUclips algorithams, people have short attention... spans, it's worth speaking with Matt Armstron & on how he fumbled his way through growing his channel whilst not impacting your passion which is the business.
    8:50 - In my opinion don't be showing people how to repair stuff dont give away your secrets, the "what went wrong" videos are good, but how to service a car? Nah!
    11:50 - In my opinion, keep doing what you're doing, grow progressively , you shouldnt let RUclips overtake the core purpose of RE performance. Margins are tight and Dav isnt free.
    14:57 - Avoid sponsors in my opinion, if and when you can afford to take Dav more, then do that.
    21:50 - Please dont take the teenager... i think you will loose more than you gain, they wont have the expirience, you'll have to put a lot of time into directing them & think they think they're right all the time! 😒

    You mention a bigger workshop.
    I think the workshop is big enough but needs desperately reorganising.
    A mez above the dyno , engine and valet bay with a small lift to get bikes and engines up there would free up at least space for another two bays maybe three bays.
    More bays could mean at least one more technician and a project bay.
    Solves your work backlog and frees your time to work on the project cars.
    A one off payment for the work saves the need for a bigger workshop with increased rent/ rates etc

    Hi Kate….and Ricky, as I may have mentioned previously, you are the channel, you make it what it is and it is likely to lose the USP if you change the format. I agree that subscriptions drive abilities but subscribers cannot be seen to move focus too far way from the core values presented so far. Perhaps adding secondary channels may be the answer but diminishing the already established profile by limiting your output to 20 minutes will, in my view, be detrimental. I love the format of mixing serious tech tasks with unfiltered banter. Life is not to please everyone as this impossible. Keep up the good work.

    just before he goes on tour.

    Interesting video. The fact your other video on whether or not you should quit RUclips did so well says people are interested and don’t want you to quit. Personally I like your longer videos and more on the technical side, but a 20 minute run time is probably easier to do. I think the more successful car guys on RUclips have one thing in common, they have a good sense of humor, and good character. You’ve got both of those and are interesting to watch and listen to. Big plus in my book. Plenty of guys out there are dull or have a crap personality. Hard pass on them. Personally the Lamborghini stuff is my main interest, but I watch it all because it’s fun to watch. Keep up the good work. (Got that shipping quote for the hoodie yet?) 😎

    Maybe I am the odd one out but I like the techy bits. The Noble and the Skyline the best parts. The oil pump was interesting (even if part of that was "oh my god, how much complication can they add to an oil pump")
    Afraid the video of "The Realities of Running a RUclips Channel" I started to watch, but turned off after a bit as it didn't interest me.

    Don’t like the obvious clickbate titles but you can be clever about it (veritasium channel for example). I watched the oil pump video & skipped the “quitting RUclips” video because it was predictable “volume” piece. What are you looking to achieve? An entertainment channel or something that drives customers to your business. “Retro Power” doesn’t have high volumes for their exceptional technical weekly updates but they do get HNW customers & the channel helps. The TopGear style lads banter is entertaining and as Clarkson said that sort of content (including his farm stuff) is a total science, where they have a story & % of humour / silly / serious carefully balanced to hit the formula.

    Like some of your other commenters i enjoy your videos for the technical content, you are a business first, youtube second. People need to realise you are not a Mat Armstrong / Tavarish type of channel which have projects as their business. I think you have a difficult job to keep everyone happy with content , as you say you do not have a camera there all the time. I am an old chap not a young kid who 'expects' project build content every episode. Look at the crap Tavarish has been getting on the P1 build.

    Nice one 👌 I think you should do what Barum engines do bit off click bate 🙈😂 like its gonna be carnage everyone dies or I'm sacking everyone this week that kinda thing 😂. To be honest the reason I watch your videos is because you are an honest straight shooting decent bloke. I remember you telling the story about your past upbringing and all and how you got started in the motor trade. Very inspirational story . And I can tell that all you guys would do anything for one another and really care about each other .I remember the videos you did with and about Josh Day listening to the things you said honestly mate I had tears in my eyes what uv got my friend is very rare on this god forsaken planet. Since the day i was born i have been surrounded by the kinda people that would gladly stick a knife in your back for a small profit human waste more or less .So what you guys have going on is great gives one a little hope for the human race so keep making videos and doing your thing 👌

    Watt do you hope to achieve with RUclips? Extra income or advertising for the company.
    Just remember, as much as all love Matt Armstrong no one in their right mind would buy one if his cars. Not hating but you're a professional business where he's a hobbiest.
    But, you need to build a community and integrate viewers into your world. When all the boys are involved or it's lads chat about racing or TT it works well.
    Failing that just have GUy MArtin in each video....
