Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a 2023 turn-based strategy video game developed by WayForward and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is a remake of the first two titles in the Advance Wars series, Advance Wars, and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. It was released on April 21, 2023.

interesting to see just how a few changes can make a mission so much easier.
but for kanbei's error hard campaign . it's understandable
Devs had to know about the airport line and its impact to consider voicing it, and they did
The addition of the Bomber was a welcome addition, but the biggest change was that the AI could no longer cheat in fog.

I remember an LP over on the somethingawful forums where the AI actually lucked in to that trick and it caused some serious problems.
This was the mission in original AW Hard Campaign that I threw in the towel for.

@@turbo8628 yes, but I’m not looking at it from a gameplay perspective, im looking at it from a strategic perspective, and it would still take some time too set up a missile, and even then mangs still has a bomber available too wreck that infantry, combine that with missiles being vulnerable and you have got a lot of options, but it would still be harder then this version is
@@art-games6230 yeah, from a strategy point a lot of the campaign missions are only beatable because the ai is not great (which is a good thing all things considered). Campaign missions are largely puzzles that need to be solved.
Airport lock aside, all kanbei would have to do to win here is not attack with his airforce whilst capping those three cities. If you move your air units out then they get destroyed before you can even interrupt those caps.

The only reason why Kanbei's maps have such easy ways to best him is only because they know he's a beast, probably only below AW1 Max and Campaign Sturm. They need to make him a little bit of an idiot because otherwise he would be harder to beat.
The joke is that the overpowered CO has almost zero tactics I think
What is an airport?
It's a port up in the sky where you build flying boats. This is why we call them airships.
Kanbei error's is so hard they have to tweak it.

I can imagine them actually giving you an initial starting air force or at least a few Anti-Airs.

i had a lot of fun in this mission, put a rocket on the right side of my starting island and just bombarded whatever he made on the island base
The subtle changes that were made to the missions seem to be making all the difference.
I feel like it was overkill. Just having the AI not cheat was enough to make it weak I think.
@@Teinve remember that not everyone is like mangs and knows what the enemy has and were. This mission must be beatable within reasonable attempts by someone who hasn't memorized the map before
@@sasir2013 imo it's hard mode, it's meant to be difficult. At least maybe should have given the player a battle copter instead of the bomber.
@@Teinve getting struck by a unit you don't even know that existed on his first turn, or losing in 7 turns because you didn't know he is already capping the island turn 1 is artificial difficulty.
You don't even have a submarine or similar unit to allow you to scout, so there's really no way to figure out how the map works and what you should do except losing a few times in a row
And so, wayforward gave you a bomber to, at least, give you a few extra turns by allowing you to attack the island early and delay his captures, so you can actually deal with everything without having to memorize the map
Keep in mind that it is still perfectly possible (and likely) that your bomber gets shot down by a fighter or the aintiair on the island, it's not an automatic win button

It’s a place where you can deploy things called “aircraft” they fly and die if they get into contact with anti-air

I think more advance wars maps need to have bases closer to the middle, could make for some interesting gameplay with faster deployment, you could als make the center an island only being conquerable by air or naval assault, might even allow for some submarine play since you’re going to need landers in order to deploy heavy vehicles too the middle, alternatively you could have the center only accessible via a few bridges that are going to be contested, I think advance wars maps should utilize more exotic ideas, it worked with mixed base maps
A lot of the war room and 4 player maps are from the older famicom wars where you couldn't build away from the HQ.

Who would you guys rather work for? What's-An-Airport-Andy who will gleefully make a widow out of your wife so he can play with his new air force husbando, or Kill-Em-All-Kanbei who will gleefully march you and all your buddies to your deaths because he got his arm stuck in a vending machine the day he was supposed to learn what a base was in CO school?
Well, with Kanbei you not only get better equipment to work with, but you're also harder to kill. You also get a 20% higher paycheck as well!
But with Andy you can expect a few emergency first aid to drop down from time to time so you can patch up.
@@DoktorVicTim For me, the idea of 20% higher pay is promising, but imagine you're a soldier, your unit gets buzzed by an attack copter, you're on the ground bleeding out from a missing arm, and along comes some kid who beats you with a wrench until your arm grows back. In the end, I think I'll have to be team Andy lmfao

The main problem was AI cheating in Fog of War.
Back in the days I literally gave up on this mission. No Internet to guide you through - it was impossible. And I was so frustrated.
This is a ridiculously hard challenge level !! I died so many times and Kanban takes over bases so fast before you can respond from so many planes. I finally beat the level after taking over their base over whelming with planes and then I destroyed the attack helicopters and bomber planes. Then I used 3 troops to surround the air port making transport units to take the base in the middle of no where. Then I kept destroying the anti Air planes and kept sending infinity to properties untill Victory. Literally 1 point off from S Tier as Speed was 79. 🤯
Speed and Power 100.
This mission is night and day in difficulty compared to the original.
Is anyone here disappointed that they didn’t make any references to AW1 sturm?

Forests don't hide airplanes.
So I found out an interesting exploit today. And you might notice it in this video as well but, the enemy ai always prioritizes transport units.
So if you are in a situation where you need to distract the enemy for a couple days, send out some apcs. You might survive thanks to the "Bunker Bait"
I dragged on the thing because i didnt just want to take his bases. I wanted him off the board completely.

Kanbei Rework: +20% offense, +50% terrain defense, +20% cost, -2 repairs.
Increased defense from terrain means he cares about positioning again, and because terrain defense diminishes as the unit's health diminishes, once he loses his full health his defense cracks, and finally he cannot repair he can only combine, keeping his unit count lower and making it harder to regain that full health terrain defense. How's that?
Kanbei, not again, when will you learn, How can you possibly deploy a mountain of troops with such a useless base?

I don't like the extra bomber. Yes the original mission was overtuned. But I think scouting the AA and bombing it shouldn't be an option with the staring forces. I think they should have given you a battle coptor instead. Of if that isn't enough give a battle coptor, a transport coptor, a Mech, maybe make the sea tile above the forest on the right of the island a seaport, and slapped a cruiser there instead.
Did anyone else notice the missing Anti Air Unit Review? I know the seris is long but still...

Just to be clear. The AI can always see you. It just has to play by the rules and the unit must see you
I've trapped the AI quite often in the fog. It doesn't know everything
@@davidwhidden9337 But that's wrong. If the AI could see all your units, why would they try to go through them? Trapping only works because the AI doesn't see everything.
So, it has to scout.
@Random person the AI does cheat in some capacity still but it's only in limited situations.
1. Attacking any AI unit in fog of war with any indirect unit alerts the ai to your position instantly. If your rocket doesn't fire on an enemy tank. It has to scout, if the rocket fires on the tank it immediately understands where you are.
2. Dived subs have the AI know it's position for 1 more turn than it's supposed to.
(OH and I get what you mean, it must ALWAYS scout to fire, I mean I'm referring to the fact that if the AI has two units, one to scout and one to attack. In these criteria It WILL spot and destroy the unit.)

@@davidwhidden9337 Dude, you're talking to me as if I haven't played OG AW. Here's the thing: This isn't OG AW.
They redid the AI so that it doesn't cheat in FOW.
There is a glitch with FOW and Sonia, where she can indirect you with direct units after popping her CO, but that's it. The AI doesn't cheat in FOW.
For example: I did a bit of testing in Kanbei's error, hard campaign. I was able to trap all of Kanbei's rushing units on the first turn. How would that be possible if the AI knew where my units were? He would simply go around them.
Bleh, should've let the enemy keep their old cheap trick of seeing you in Fog of war for the purpose of subjecting new generations to the horror of this mission that we had to deal with 20 years ago. :P
