    The makeover is lovely and thoughtful. I do have some suggestions. The ceiling fan has a purpose which is to move the air in the home and since the living space is within the kitchen space, it will come in handy. The entryway doesn’t need 5 lights. The sconces are beautiful and the replacement for the booblight will be sufficient for lighting needs. The 2 lamps on the entryway table are too much and take away from the board and batten wall. In this space, less would be more. A longer runner would be nice.

      I personally never use overhead lighting in my home. It’s too bright. I much prefer to have lamp lighting & I love the lamps on the entry way, although I understand what you are saying. If the lamps were a tad bit smaller, it would be perfection😊

    It would look much better if the black on the fireplace was more flat looking as opposed to the glossier finish. If it was flat black it would tie in with the kitchen cabinets much better.

      Flat paint collects more dust and is a fire hazard. Glossy paint is easy to clean. Also flat paint collect fingerprints too. Idk if you ever had a fireplace but you want a easy clean. So Idk about flat paint on fireplaces or near kitchens

    Agree with the fireplace painted a flat or matt black. Being shiny, takes away from all the other beautiful decor in the home. Your eye goes directly to the fireplace because it is large and sticks out, glows, reflects all the light.😊

  • @mjsimm
    @mjsimm Год назад +92

    Looks wonderful, for the hall runner I would go to a carpet store and find the remnant section. Find a piece you like and have them bind it. That's what I've done at my house and have been able to fit in odd sized shapes in my old shack. lol I pay $4 and linear foot to have them bound.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson

      I've done that, too. I really love the rug from Target, though. The problem with carpet remnants is they lack interesting color variation and an organic feel that a rug can give.

    I think your friends benefitted from the Castlery furniture, so it was a good deal for them. You said there was more changes to be done and I agree. One the fireplace needs a makeover. It could use a fire screen, a mantel of some sort so you can have some art on all that brick. I would hope they will agree to let you de gloss it some how. Some stacked wood in a holder would be nice. As is, it is just a black hole. I'm sure your friends will continue to make it more their own in time.

  • @shawnrobertson9618

    Nice start! I think you could go much larger on the entryway rug. Something vintage could bring more warmth. Or a checkered rug to bring the 2-tone of the entry console onto the floor? Did you consider painting the front door black (closer to the dark color in the entry console? Once they move in and start to personalize it with art, it will start to come to life (like your place is). Great base.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson Год назад

      I'm surprised that doesn't bother me more. I noticed it, but thought 🤷🏼‍♀️. I think it's not too bad because it's in such a small space surrounded by lot of that color on the door. And its shape is so reminiscent of the spaces in the board and batten wall. But we're really only seeing it from this one angle, looking toward the front door. It might appear more prominent if facing the console piece with the mirror.
      ETA: I was watching on my phone and opened my laptop to take a look - now that cold air return is all I can see! 😂

      I am thinking maybe there used to be a storage cupboard running along where the entry table is and they had the entry table in between the sconces? That would account for why she found the corridor a bit wide for a rug? The air con outlet would have been hidden by the longer cupboard. Perhaps before selling, they made some alterations to make the entrance wider.

    I suspect that after your friends have lived with the black fireplace, they will regret their choice of color. There's a beautiful Behr paint, Cracked Pepper, which is darker than deep charcoal but not such a harsh black. It also has the same deep, almost navy undertone that the kitchen cabinets have. There are so many pot lights in the kitchen, living room. I don't really think you need a center light fixture at all, especially if you're going to add a table lamp. Maybe consider moving it to the dining room? Also, dimmer switches on pot lights would be great. Finally, the entry looks gorgeous. From a design perspective I think 5 light fixtures in that small space are way too many. A smaller, more contemporary lamp (maybe with a metal dome shade) for the credenza wouldn't compete with the sconces and overhead light. Agree with everyone's suggestion of 5 x 7 rug. Castlery furniture is really nice!

    Another beautiful makeover. I don't understand why the rug in the front entry is not under the door? Since it's too small floating in the centre of the room.....place it under the front door. When you walk in there needs to be someplace to land without potentially ruining the floors. Love the kitchen redo....best use of the space. I think I agree with the comments that there's too many lights in the front hall. Personally, don't really need the sconces especially since there are two lamps on the credenza. Perhaps remove the sconces and place a large piece of artwork instead.

    I really liked the makeover and the realistic touch to it, since most peoples homed grow and evolve with them but for the time being they have a cozy livingroom space in their home where they can wind down while tackling all the other spaces in their house.
    Also I'd add either a bench opposite the cabinet or a chair next to it in the entryway for changing shoes :)

    It all looks SO GOOD MaCenna! Just a note to help protect the hardwood floors, and the island counter top, if your vases and that gorgeous pot you used for the Fiddle leaf fig aren't sealed inside, use a large glass jar inside the vase, and a saucer inside the decorative pot, as the porous nature of them will leach water through.

You have no idea if the client is happy with it but from the reaction I'd say they are happy. It's also not 100% finished as mentioned in the video so your comment is pretty rude. You're saying no offense and following up with being offensive. If you love her style, of course you would not be a fan of this. You can not be a good interior designer if all you do is push your own style on other people, believe me. The biggest compliment I get is when customers tell me they are so glad I have the same style as them. I am quietly thinking "if you only knew, not even close". People who can only appreciate their own specific taste will never make good interior designers or decorators.

    Seriously re think the fireplace color. Going dark was a good call- it needed it. Getting a color that more closely “speaks to the kitchen cabinets” would elevate both rooms. As it stands, these elements are fighting each other. Also the entry hall looks like it could host a much larger rug . Think outside the box and use an area rug- even if part of it goes a bit under that side table.

    sooo lovely macenna! i think making those bowls into pendant lights is such a good idea BUT placing them above the kitchen table in the dining room would make it feel so intimate and calm and warm 🥰 i think it would warm up the black table and complement the chairs! i’m a sucker for a super intimate and low lit dining room so i would 100% try that out if it were meeee!
    also, my OCD wants to chime in and say the fig tree would look good elevated and placed on the base of the fireplace right behind it! like, same exact spot just on that ledge to elevate the space just a tiny bit! 😉🤭
