I'm in New Zealand on the opposite edge of the Pacific plate and I've got a great tip: get some earthquake wax aka museum wax. It's the stuff museums use to secure irreplaceable objects in case of earthquake. It's not permanent and non sticky but boy does it grip. Things are secure from a big shake but still easy enough to detach when you want to move stuff around. I've got a 9 foot shelf in my living room and everything is earthquake waxed into place.
I think that's pretty standard in California that everyone has everything waxed in place. Where I live we don't have earthquakes, but there's a very large military installation very nearby and I have silicone dots on the backs of my artwork, one in each corner, to help keep them from moving around on the walls. And anything on a shelf will walk off if not waxed in place. There are so many planes and helicopters, including the huge transport ones, flying over and when they train, the mortars really shake things up!
That confused me that she removed the glasses from the bar cart and randomly put them on the shelf, they were the only thing that seems to actually fit for a bar cart.
This seems to be such a common apartment layout so I truly think this could help inspire SO many people. It also shows how much you can do without changing the wall color and flooring due to renting. Beautiful MaCenna!! The divider turned out great and I love the warmth it brings. I do wish that you showed us the "after" in more of a wide angle so i could see the completed look all at once just like the "before" footage. I know its picky, but it's just so satisfying😂!! What an awesome makeover!!!!
Such a brillilant transformation Macenna! The apartment looked a little cold before with so much empty space in the middle. You've totally transformed it and given your friends such a warm, cosy, beautifully curated space . This is what good design is all about - even though this is not your own particular style, you've obviously taken your friends taste into consideration and given them a wonderful home.
MaCenna, absolutely gorgeous. The shelf divider belongs in Architectural Digest. Also, big shoutout to Romeo for all his help. It's perfect that you released this video on Halloween, because you magically turned an apartment into a home.🧡🎃🌺😀
MaCenna - your use of color and vintage decor elements brings this space to LIFE! I so love the spaces you create with such warmth. And as I always comment…pure class. It’s so good!
This is gorgeous! You've transformed this space into one that looks curated rather than purchased from the same store. The Article lamps are gorgeous. I need them now! The Klimt was the perfect choice for the dining area. Successful combination of elegant and functional. Love!
I got married in 1959 so all my furniture was the real mid century modern. Your design is spot on My end tables were walnut and my bedroom set was similar to the sideboard. I also had a bar cart I did not have the Sputnik chandelier though. I had pink in my kitchen. Couch was creamy tan with straight lines
What a keen eye, a little luck & a great price can do for a room. Finding that Klimt print at the flea was a game changer. The way you pulled it all together is stunning, just wow!
MaCenna, your eye is impeccable. I love the whole thing, but the dining area is my favorite. I can see it as the setting for dinner parties, holidays or a heart -to-heart over a cup of tea between two good friends.
I love that you explain your reasoning for picking each and every piece. It really helps me understand more when it comes to designing my own spaces! You're amazing, MaCenna.
It’s always nice to see how your comfort zone trickled in seamlessly into other areas of interior design. Cuz we obviously know you’re a master in your French core vintage element, so seeing you as a creative in another area is definitely one for the portfolio I loved it!
Congrats for creating a whole new lifestyle for your friends!! This room will, literally, change their lives!!! Like how light everything even felt even though there were really nice pops of color. Nothing in the room felt overwhelming and all pieces were related to one another as if they were from the same family but had their own separate story. Good job!!!
Designing and curating pieces for ourselves is a labour of love, but it’s so creatively stimulating to design something for someone else, in their style, and flawlessly execute it.Great work! 😊 The apartment looks so alive now!
I was genuinely impressed by the dramatic change in this apartment's atmosphere. The design choices and the detailed explanations throughout the video made it feel like a personalized guide to injecting life and style into any living space.

Girl, you did an absolutely awesome job! It’s not my personal style, but you nailed it with the perfect mix of colors and textural details. The room divider shelving wall just made it all come together perfectly! The space actually ends up appearing larger, yet with cozier zones. Bravo!😊
I'm completely blown away by what you accomplished in this space, MaCenna! I'm a long-time viewer and admittedly not much of a commenter-but I have to say something about this transformation. The color palette is so warm and comforting while still feeling unexpected and unique. The space reads midcentury modern without feeling like you're in a midcentury showroom. It's a true testament to your hardworking and talent that you were able to create such an amazing space for your friend in a style that you yourself don't really lean to anymore. I'm constantly in awe of what you create.
What a great result! The round tables in the dining and living room really help to breakup those rectangular room and furniture shapes. And the layout works perfectly in this space
Love love love all the color! MaCenna, what you’re talking about with the different shades of pink is called using various tints, tones, and shades of the color. It’s great color theory, and if anyone is curious on how to do this and make sure it matches: tint is when you add white to a color, tone is when you add gray, and shade is when you add black. If you’re introducing color into your space, I definitely recommend playing around on the color wheel so you can bring in more tints, tones, and shades into your color scheme to make it more dynamic, regardless of whether you want to go a monochromatic route or not! But of course, if using the exact same hue is your jam, go for it!! YOUR space should make YOU happy ☺️
You are something else.. As a little girl, I would watch my Dad doing his blue prints for the home he was building... I mean...what? Seemed amazing to me.. You remind me of that.. I am now 71...still amazed❤ Fabulous room...love❤
You did SUCH a great job elevating this space!! The textures, colors, and small decor pieces all blend together so beautifully!! I never would have thought of moving the dining room and adding that bookshelf divider, either. Brilliant choices!! 👏
This is an AMAZING makeover! I love the way you use small, simple pieces that give an understated artsy vibe. So many would have chosen very large art, furniture, etc and really lost the lovely size and openness of the actual room. The divider was a TRIUMPH! 👏👏👏👏🌹
Oh MaCenna, you definitely pulled it off. I love your style & try my best to include your tips in my own home 💚 your friend is very lucky to have your help!
My mom and I...finally...were able to watch your videos together as she is visiting from Michigan!! We enjoy watching the relationship between you and your mom. Amazing job with the apartment and so nice to have Romeo's help and support. Wishing the best for both of you. Take care of each other. Excited to see what's coming up next! We hope you had an amazing Halloween!!! 🎃🍂🍬
Your creativity is outstanding!!! The diy project is perfect for their space !! How the color pallette marry one-another. JUST WONDERFUL MACENNA! I'm gobsmacked!!!
Hi MaCenna the living room dining room area is beautiful the Shelf is your signature you can start designing and making those and selling them such a talent❤❤❤❤❤😊
Love your diy divider. It's fabulous. Consider a plant stand for smaller floor plants. It would add the height and better dimension needed in that corner. Great design. Better function in the apartment overall. Thank you for bringing more light into a once dreary space.
I rarely comment but I couldn’t resist. The shelf space divider is my favourite piece of all of the makeover. It stands out and is such a showstopper!!! Amazing job to both of you 😍
Loved how warm the space got after adding all of the colors. The shelf is such a great idea, not surprised you were able to build it but still, girl you’re awesome ❤
Love love LOVE this makeover! 😍 only thing I would have want to see more of, is the reaction of the homeowner 🙈 I love to see the apriciation and joy they get when they see the result
Absolutely fabulous MaCenna. I'm so in love with your DIY book shelf! It is so mid-century looking. Everything looks so amazing and truly ties each separate space into the other. You are incredible.
I just can't put a fresh rug down on top of carpet that hasn't been vacuumed! Is it just me? 😂 MaCenna, seeing you make over this room was SO FUN. Your creativity and design just really made it glow!
I was wondering if she used any kind of carpet tape or pad. An area rug placed on top of carpet “walks” when someone walks over it. It will keep shifting and bunching. Just curious.
Your wall unit is unbelievably brilliant McCenna. I’ve never seen anything so like that you are utterly amazing and just to make something for all of the pretty things is the best 🥰😅
I've got to say, I've had couch for ages and was starting to feel the springs. Replaced the seat cushion foam and it's like a brand new couch for a fra tion of the price of a new couch and saved it from the landfill.
Ohhhhhh MaCenna you are a genius, I love it all🤩you constantly amaze me with what you can conceive and pull together in such a short time, your shelf DIY was one of my favorite things so far. MCM has become so expensive, it has always been one of my favorite styles and the pieces you found were great👍👏👏👏👏👏👏💖🙏
Spectacular makeover MaCenna! You managed to not overdo the MCM. Just the right touches. Romeo was great as the "muscle" so thanks to him as well. I think they liked it! And the Klimt is perfect!
Woo this looks so good. A beautiful blend of new and old. Anyone else wish we got to see the work space/gym? My only worry would have to be stuck in the dark corner all work day.
Amazing job MaCenna and Romeo too. You are so talented . It's like whatever you touch turns to gold. Love watching your Vlogs and videos. Can't wait for next vlog and video.
Congratulations MaCenna on a wonderful job for your friend. I love how the room divider turned out. You are so clever and such an inspiration to us all. Happy Halloween to you and Romeo. 😘💕👻🎃🇦🇺
