    Hi MaCenna! Please, please, please read this message!
    From a pure design esthetic, everything looks absolutely lovely. I truly like what you have created. Will you please record a video of the pool area lighted at night so we can see how it looks with your new solar lamps? They’re perfect for the space! Love the umbrella by the loungers, too!
    As a dog parent myself, I offer you sincere words of advice… I urge you to do one of two things:
    1. Always take Kinsley somewhere outside to potty in an area with natural grass.
    2. Build Kinsley a fenced potty area with an impervious, washable liner and use real turf you can dispose of on a weekly basis. That way you can confine her waste to a specific area, in which she will grow accustomed to relieving herself. You’ll save the rest of the pool area for humans.
    We cannot let our 80-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback off leash, so we take him out first thing in the morning, 30 minutes after breakfast, mid-morning, noon, mid-afternoon, 30 minutes after supper, and before bed, at minimum. It’s intense, but it’s what we have to do to make sure he potties outside where we can bag and remove poo from the yard. On real grass, we’ve found flushing pee with a quart of water keeps the grass from browning. The smell of urine on other surfaces (concrete, brick, wood, & carpet) is impossible to remove fully, no matter how much they’re cleaned. If you don’t want to have regrets, please think about these suggestions. Best of luck to you and Romeo.

      @amara560 Год назад +13

      I agree. If you walk your dog often enough and train them they will not pee on brick. Mine goes out 4 times a day and that is enough for him. Really depends on the dog. Kinsley peeing all over the turf feels very unhygienic and it will make it discolour fast.

    Looks good! You may want to install an electrically controlled pool cover. Just flick a switch, and it opens and closes. It protects the pool from debris, and you use less pool chemicals because of less UV exposure. The cover gets cleaned a few times a year with a cover cleaner.

    Wonderful as usual. Please put some sand (play sand will be fine) in the bottom of your fire pit. It helps dissipate the heat from the burning logs, and your pit will last longer. And I know it usually doesn't rain often in SoCal (this year being an exception), but you'll want to get a cover for it too to ensure it lasts. Great job!

    You are going to need a blower that vacuums so you can keep care of that turf. My suggestion is for your to make Kesley her own potty area that you can keep clean in that corner around the door you come out of. Dogs will go back to the same area once it has their sent. You can use the same turf, put it in a wood frame or over the drain area. I would not encourage her using the turf by the pool. Also Kensley should really be using the front yard away from the coyotes and never alone, should be on lease.

    People in these comments are being unfairly harsh about the turf. I am not a fan of fake grass either but MaCenna explains her reasons well and it makes sense for this space. Time will tell if it works out but that is part of renovating - trialling and LEARNING. Chill out, people! (Although in fairness I hope that glue doesn't ruin the brick if they do change their mind on the turf!)

    From a distance the idea of grass looks brilliant. The colour is a great contrast to the brick. But that turf is so bad environmentally and it’s going to be a real pain to keep clean with all of your tree and leaf litter…

    Looks great! I know fake grass can often still get very hot, so I would keep an eye on it, especially if doggo is walking on it in the heat

      my thought too, plastic grass heats up and the brick under will retain the heat as well

    I think I would have personally lived with the turf there for a bit before I actually glued it down to make sure I REALLY REALLY LOVED IT! Had turf and the amount of leaves and dirt your lush greenery leaves on the bricks I can see this being a big pain to keep clean, also if Kensley uses it for pottying it can start to smell. Even if you think you have good drainage. Now that you glued it down it’s extremely hard to get that glue off, actually pretty much impossible to remove it with no left marks. Really think you should have lived with it a bit before you glued it😬

    I am not sure to understand how this faux grass can be drained if there is some glue, paper and bricks underneath? I don’t think that this kind of grass is very good for the environment and I heard that it can get very hot in the sun, so your little dog must be very careful. As soon as she is going to pee on it, (or more), it is going to become such a mess! Nice look but not the real deal. The no grass under the lounge chairs is not “French”, I have never seen that in France during my very long time living there as a French woman.
    Also your little round table is probably not in teak, woods like cedar or even in France, some oaks may become gray with water. So your little round table outside needs an urgent rescue before becoming totally good for the trash, it would be a pity because it is cute. Your teak chairs may remain nice like now if you clean them and nourish them with the right product for teak.
    The whole plastic yard is not really my thing, nothing can replace the fresh smell of real grass, and I’m sure that your little dog will agree with me.

    love!!! PS. We have the exact same fire pit here in SoCal, I highly highly HIGHLY suggest putting it away (or buying a cover for it) for when you're not using it/when it rains because it rusted so easily and while they're cheap to replace its much better to maintain what you've got for the sake of waste!
