Yes, but the key thing is that the 'large chunk of material' in the sonata-allegro form makes sense in the context it's put in, and it isn't repeated too many times. Here? It's repeated so god damn often that it gets old quickly.
Some great moments! An expensive work to present. It could have been written with the same impact in a shorter less expensive way. Not sure the length of this work is an important part of it's value. Judging by the few who were inspired to watch the complete 4 videos, about 1 out of 11 listeners, I think I'm right.
I love that one descending four note theme thats in all four mvmnts. the one that is mostly played by the flute and bells. i feel like It doesn't really fit in anywhere well and it sticks out for a reason. it reminds me of debussy or ravel
It's fine once or twice. Don't love it, don't want to hear it every day, don't think Gubaidulina is really in the genius rank, but think it's kind of dumb to rant against it as if it's really really terrible, because it's perfectly respectable music of our time. If you don't like the style, why bother listening to it in the first place, much less post comments?
Okay, first things first. Wozzeck is NOT dodecaphonic; it is atonal. Second, I don't like the fact that it gets a little repetetive in places. Some spots it's just the same stuff over and over again, and it sort of kills the value of that section. Now, I will give it credit; as a whole, the work is interesting to listen to (especially that orchestration *shivers*), but it would be better if some segments weren't repeated so damn often. So there. Got it?
Repetition is a problem? Geez, most classical sonatas repeat a large chunk of material note for note. Not to mention some Bach where everything is repeated. And on and on and on...
It's an interesting instrumentation, to be sure. Musically, it's not that great, but it's still quite good. Of course, nobody likes this kind of contemporary, so it's understandeable why they just clapped. You know the rest.
Inspired composition, and Bashmet is an inspiring musician. This is great, love it.
Grande músico, meu ídolo...

Did you mean "SWEET" or are you really proclaiming "sweat" as in "cold sweat".
Repetition is crap but I don´t find this music repetitive I think gubaidulina is great.
Repetition is truth.

Lmao, I can't say I agree with you, but calling this "a diarrhea of notes" made me laugh.
Col legno.
