One of all time favourite albums brought to life by musicians who just love the music. The shear joy in the playing and singing shines through. Thank you
Every time I see Derek I remember the vision of him at 13 playing Layla at Crossroads and it immediately melds into the present time in the middle of a slide note and I see the grown man who is WAY better than his Uncle Duane ever was BUT who honors that heritage better than any single man I can think of right now. God bless you Derek, an example of the best of us!
I remember him about that age, Lakewood amphitheatre in ATL, would have been about 1993, sitting in with the Allman Bros, wearing a Braves baseball hat, ripping through Statesboro blues. We were gobsmacked, this tiny little child, playing to about 20k ppl, with peak late era Allmans - Dickie still in the band, Woody still alive, a great time for music.
Let's not forget that Duane paved the way for Derek....I absolutely love Derek's feel for slide! He is a master of contemporary slide guitar, as Duane Allman was a master of slide guitar in the late '60's and very early '70's. But I refuse to ignore what Duane contributed to music back in the day.
Sorry, Duane was one of a kind. Derek is really good but as the critic Robert Palmer said about Duane, the man could vamp on one chord for 15 minutes and never get boring. I’m not saying Derek isn’t really good. He is a phenom. Just a matter, in my opinion of which came first. What’s too bad is Duane passed so young. Derek is building on stuff Duane was doing. As it is, this was Eric & Duane and I’ll never forget hearing Layla done by a local band in Heckscher Park Huntington, NY. The album was rereleased after they had broken up. Anyway, you’ve got good taste. Let’s hope these guys keep at it.
@@OldBassGuitarMan absolutely. I bought that Allman Bros album, live at Fillmore at EJ Korvettes, on sale for $3.99 as well as Jethro Tull Aqualung and Black Sabbath Master of Reality.
Derek kills that slide like his uncle’s old band mate/leader, Duane Allman did on the original with Bobby Whitlock and Eric Clapton of Derek and the Dominoes when he sat in during the sessions. This band is pure talent!
Derek is playing with a more having fun look. Susan has so much talent, she, herself looks happy and dancing more, since they came back. It's a richer sounding band. Lots of talent has come together.
Hate to break it to the boomers, but Derek Trucks is by far a better player than Duane. No disrespect meant to Duane Allman, but give respect where it's due. Derek Trucks is one of the best players in history.
Had never heard of them before I saw them at the Holland Blues Festival some years back. They did some spontaneous stuff with Ms Bonnie Raitt too, I was blown away and a fan ever since! Derek is amazing with that slide!
Have never seen this band but hung out with Derck & his Dad when he was only 13 he was AMAZING then he's my FAVORITE. HE can make great music & SUSAN has a VOICE that is AMAZING. LOVES TO ALL OF YA'LL. DIANA
Here we go again! I died and went to Heaven again. Love you ❤ both. Come to Seattle soon please? or the Gorge in George, Wa. Please, please!!!. That would be the highlight of MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! xoxoxoxo
thought it was Eric at first ! I gotta have my blues...came here from Frank Zappa and all my dark morbid memories of gettin' drafted in 67... I'm shufflin' into happy now.
Sublime. Really nailing that 70s Clapton vibe, even Trey has obviously been practicing for this specifically - sounds more like Clapton licks he's playing here than his own.
Assuming your a phish/trey fan since hes largely ignored in the comments of these videos. I'm not sure people understand how integral his presence and playing is in this concert. Even though trey isnt quite the virtuoso he was in the 90s which is the most impressive guitar playing of all time imo. Back then he could never do concerts like this or GD50 fare thee well shows where he's very aware that his role is to enhance the other musicians and shine the light on the trucks especially. Its admirable that he committed to this gig knowing that he would be taking the back seat while still having to learn one of the greatest guitar albums ever and sucessfully nailing Clapton's parts and style . Theres plenty of the best lead guitarist of all time that would naturally let there ego corrupt there playing since most lead guitarist are not known for restraint. Trey knows full well how significant these songs are to Derek trucks and seems glad to just help drive DT to his peak and pushes him to play like his life depends on it. That was jerry garcias approach to performing live, playing as if his actual life would end if he didn't put all of himself into his playing. Jerry's playing from 69-77 definitely reflected that , same with Hendrix, and Trey throughout the better part of the 90s. And your right that trey stays away from any of his traditional phish/tab style and really gels into Clapton's playing with comfort . Sure theres a few moments where hes a bit lost but that's pretty miraculous considering trey has never even touched any of these songs in his 35+ years of playing live .
I love it super musicians..always love Claptons guitar festivals..63 old playing drums myself always and still in love with the Allman Brothers Band. Dutch Guy living in Austria now 😁👍
I’ll be seeing them at Red Rocks for a second time later this month. It truly a magical place to see a concert and to see TT play there is icing on the cake.
Ive heard the original Clapton/Dominos versions of this song & album but--- Derek Trucks just gave me the chills, on Tell the Truth, like it was the first time. damn.
I first heard this song off the History of Eric Clapton album. The fast "45" version was ok but the jam really got to me. This has to be the best live recording I've heard. Derek Trucks has truly mastered the slide technique a la Duane Allman with all of Dereks precision and interpretation of both not only Duane but Eric Clapton as well. Of course, Dereks own work over the years speaks volumes. Can't say enough good things about this fine group of great musicians.
Yeah I'm wanting them listening that at the Allman Brother Band back in the seventies the late sixties hey I'm so glad y'all hooked up to do with y'all doing I just love it
It was on mine too. You should have seen me trying to video one of Derek's solos as the tears were literally running down my face. Do whatever you can to see them.
Lockn 2019... damn, I miss lockn fest. Never missed lockn. Couldn't always do all 4 days, but when I couldn't, I made sure I went the day tedeschi trucks was qued up.
HOLY SHIT! First I thought "oh nice, Trey Anastasio." And then I thought "jeez, that singer looks like Norah Jones." (Still not sure if it is...) And then I was like "DOYLE!" Hell yeah.
Pretty sure that's Alecia Chakour on background vocals, on the far right. She's been part of this act for a while. Daughter of a friend of mine; she's from here in Western Mass.
What a Great Band they are ... Must see them Live somewhere before i'm too old 🤗😍🤗
Milwaukee this August.
Imho this night is gonna go down as one of the greatest performances in Rock n Roll History. Legendary!!!!
Right next to Fillmore East
One hell of a band, love Susan's vocal power, she rocks!
She can kick ass!
Agreed
Derek rocks . They mesh perfectly. He played with Allman brother 's when he 13. Love lice live Tedeschi Trucks
Best live band out there these days. I have this preordered.
For this Blues Stuff ...YEAH ..REALLY Good !!
BEEN "Best live band out there" FOR YEARS! :) Along with King Crimson ;)
@@notadoc2130 Sorry but King Crimson's last 2 tours have not impressed me even with the 3 drummers. Thrak era, sure...

Love hearing Doyle on this!
Haha, knew that was his voice!!! Sure enough... that's him. Great great player....
He is the man, see him every time when he comes home to Austin.
Susan is the life force behind this- Derek adds the Jam- Oh Lordy !!
The best live band, and what a combination Derek and Susan are

❤️🙏🏽😀 Susan’s soul and two of the greatest guitarists alive. Rare Trey is the second best on stage. 😀

Glad you’re still here listening to the good stuff!
Susan’s band is beyond world class. Her vocal strength is such that, given the right material they could have an album of the year like Bonnie Raitt.
Pppppppp
P
Fabulous !!! Susan's voice, OMG it's Fabulous...the whole band........ WOW
Gave me goosebumps. Saw them for the 6th time in New Haven last summer. Rock on.
TTB Rock... never fail to deliver...Susan is brilliant...Awesome sound..

The music of Mr Clapto lives on
Brilliant playing and interplay between all the muso's .Loved how they did the entire Layla album live and added there own little touches .
I thought Clapton's version was the only one I would ever love But this is great.
I agree.
EC es una leyenda. Pero pasa el tiempo y hay mejores que el

Trey looks pretty chill sittin' in.
In Awe of the talent
Best Band in the USA- have seen them 3 x's last 2 yrs.- still dancing
Trey's lead tone is really good for this tune. And of course no need to comment on Derek's. It's always perfect.
One practice, says so much about the talent on stage
Hey Doyle, that hat is the kind Tom Waits wears, don't be mistaken for him 😂 ,,Love ya Doyle 🎸🎶🎸❤
Best band in the land
Just out frickin standing!!!!
Pure talent. This band is awesome. She makes that guitar rock. ❤️❤️❤️
"The problem with talent is that you never really know if you have any." Robert Wyatt. 10 % "talent," 90% hard work.

This is a great tune played by a great band and it sounds great too. I never paid attention to the musical changes before this and they're wonderful.
Man Trey crushes this song of course Derek does also
It is very very difficult to rock harder than this. Love Trey and this band….
Ive heard the original Clapton/Dominos versions of this song & album but--- Derek Trucks just gave me the chills, on Tell the Truth, like it was the first time. damn.
I can not wait to see all bands back on tour. But this band is tight and right!

Susan squats and kicks the left leg, she knows she has it going on. Totally awesome
Having seen D&D's in Bridgeport CT back in '70. They did a honorable rendition, I agree with everyone's comments, Happy 4th everyone 😊
WOW!! I can't wait till they roll into Shelburne Vt. Only 19 days to wait!! Is it just me or does Derek just keep getting BETTER n BETTER !!!
I love the way Derek just groves along letting the others do the singing. Absolutely fantastic sound, and the best BVs ever.
He is so unselfish. Notice he alternates the lead with the other guitarist.
He knows his place. The vocals are clearly the focus.
Love the Gretsch and Zildjian and all...
I have just purchased a ticket for your 2nd show at Sydney beautiful State theatre. Really looking forward to seeing you.
Last time they were in Oregon I missed them. I sure hope they come back!! Been following her for awhile...
They would KILL IT at The Gorge!
