@@kekker_ I actually don’t jive with UNI at all. I generally don’t like games where each individual hit is low damage, and thus requires really long combos to do any significant damage at all. It’s why I like Marvel: big damage up front, even from stray hits, then squeeze out extra damage if you can and want to put in the effort (I don’t). Also I just don’t like the general feel of combos in UNI; there’s just something very unsatisfying with how juggles work, dunno what it is. Not hating on the game though, it’s well put together, and I get wanting more people to try it. And while I know UNI has Rekka characters, I’m unsure what that had to do with my original comment; maybe I wasn’t clear what I was referring to. I was talking about Normal strings that cancel into each other via double button presses, like Medium to Heavy in MvC2 being on the same button, or Dr Dooms M-M arial string in MvC3. Some characters have supers that cause a "DHC glitch" where the opponent will be forced into the dizzy spin out regardless of current combo or damage taken. Then the next character's super comes in and does massive damage due to the damage scale resetting.

Just to add to the DHC notes, it’s also a good way to tag out safer. Raw tags are very unsafe, so using a DHC is a lot safer to get another character in play.

The safe fall command can be done with only one punch button instead of both. You also don't need to do it right as you hit the ground, you can do the command between getting hit and hitting the ground and it'll still work.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember that you can only DHC specifically while the “super flash background” is active, which is important for some characters whose supers have enders that happen after the super flash has already passed. Cammy’s air super is the first example I can think of here. It’s also possible I may be confusing that with another game, but I figured it’s worth getting the clarification.
What up JM! love your videos. Big shout out to you and max and jwong for keeping the 90s/2000's fighting games alive. I think your youtube channels have made a major contribution to the fgc. @JMCrofts thanks man, this is a game I plan on getting good at when I get the fighting collection for my switch as I have always wanted to get good at it but, I’ve never had an accessible way to do so in my lifetime but, now I do at 27 years old so, now is the perfect time to do so once I get it from my parents for Christmas hopefully.
I know this video is old so maybe it'd be nice to remake it when the collection comes out but I think mechanics like Snapbacks, Alpha Counters, Push Block, Guard Breaks, Flying, and combo limits are a lot more important to know for players looking to improve their gameplay. Maybe a video going over beginner, intermediate, and advance mechanics?

I remember reading the PS2 manual (when I had the game) for rolling forward or backwards was just quarter circle back or forward with two punches when you hit the floor. It works for me.
so a fun thing in the series before 2 (especially in mvc1) was that depending on the strength of the button you saferoll with would dictate how far away you would pop up. Fun mindgame you can use for slight smix on defense. . .but then the Hulk players started to realize the size of his whitebox/movebox lets him recover super fast of light safe roll. . .
Dreamcast and Playstation controllers had the 4 button layout with shoulder buttons so they had to work around that. Made sense for the Capcom vs. SNK games though!
I want to point out that there is another way to wavedash. You dont have to go to neutral, you just have to not be pressing a down input. So instead of [loop(2PP,5)] I do 6PP, [loop(3PP, 6)]. I like this way better because i can always just start holding the direction i want to be going cuz i can just reverse this for back wave dash: 4PP, [loop(1PP, 4)]
One thing I want to mention that most people never talk about is a mechanic specific to Silver Samurai. Silver Samurai's power up supers for Ice, Fire and Lightning can actually stack 3 up to 3 times. My best friend Alex discovered this years ago in the lab with Silver Samurai. So each super on their own gives Silver Samurai a boost to either his speed, damage, or defense, but when you do that super again it increases that effect. So for example a 3 stacks of Ice, Silver Samurai gets super armor like Mech-Zangief and cannot be knocked out of some of his attacks like he would be normally. So if you do his ice super where he slams the ground and pins the characters down, even if someone like Iron Man does their Proton Cannon super, Silver Samurai will just tank the damage and still complete the super thus locking Iron Man to the floor for a major punish. The Fire Super is probably the most nutty one though, because it boosts his damage output and can make his shurikens and even his fire super lethal in situations where normally it wouldn't be. Try this out for yourself in training mode and tell me what you think. Also credit goes to Alex Alvarez for finding this, I'm sure he isn't the only player who has found this, but like I said, I haven't heard of anyone talking about this.
I thought I knew alot bout this game tho I just learned so much. I've been playing this for 15 years so now that it's getting some love, time to go back
Finally got my Japanese version of MVC2 for my PS2 as it’s the only version I can play. Absolutely loving it, a lot of people say the PS2 version is the worst port but it seems fine to me, only issue is unlocking a lot of the roster.
1. Switch character kick to cancel off hypercombo or escape from infinity physical attacks from the opponent. 2. Summoning assist or using one long range attack to block or cancel off opponent hypercombo. Then you hypercombo them while one of your characters acting as the scapegoat. 3. Using compatible characters assist to execute infinity physical attacks. 4. All the characters are to be group in ground, anti air, air, dash and etc types for character assist types and their own specialized. 5. After your opponent has finish using his/her hypercombo, you can use your hypercombo as they might be vulnerable if they don't block after that. 6. If you are able to jump behind of your opponent while they missed their hypercombo onto you, you can use your hypercombo to counter them. 7. If your opponent left with only 2 characters, when the moment he/she summoning out his/her assist, you should use team hypercombo to try to kill off his/her assist character.
The boomer "back in my day" mentality is going to persist until the end of time. I swear in the next 2 years people are going to compare sf6 to sf5 and call sf6 a watered down version of sf5 without actually ever playing sf5.
@@elvistwatty A lot of people at least at the arcade I was at. However, that was only as first. They were more excited to see what characters were going to be unlocked.
I never knew I played a character that could trijump. Playing again I learned Tron can trijump and do some fancy combo stuff. Easy enough idea but I will def need to practice it then remember to do it in a match. The controller doesn't seem crazy since you can macro a dash button but I don't believe that was a thing in the older versions
Hey JM! I've been looking for a video explaining the most popular teams. like the composition and what their game plan is, or the individuals tasks and I haven't been able to find one! Do have any plans for something like this? I can't believe after years of mvc2 that's just something that can't be found out there
This information is online, its just kind of obscure nowadays. I believe it was called the alpha-ism podcast that skisonic put out 10-12 years ago. He did an episode with Viscant years ago where they broke down most of the different top tier teams. Let me see if I can find that on RUclips and link it
When I do an air combo and get an OTG hit I can't cancel into super. Why is that? (Specifically I'm doing Guile's [launch] sj.lp j.lk j.mp j.hp, delay j.hp, s.lk s.mk xx Sonic Hurricane but Sonic Hurricane won't come out.)
That’s because FLYING SCREEN is activated. It’s not just the super you can’t activate; it’s 4 things you can’t do (listed below). When you do an air combo, the instant you finish with a hard knockdown attack (aka almost all HPs & HKs and some specials/supers), you activate flying screen which PREVENTS you following up with: 1. Supers 2. Specials 3. Dashes (air or ground) 4. Super jump again (this is the reason why you can’t keep relaunching an opponent into an infinite air combo to ground to launch to super jump again.) The only thing you can do is continue with normals (ground or normal jump). There are exceptions to these rules which I won’t get into with this comment. That being said, the flying screen activates off of a hard knock down attack, specifically when the hard knockdown attack is the third hit. Doing a hard knockdown attack if it’s the first or even second attack won’t activate flying screen GENERALLY (there’s an exception; a mechanic in the game that’ll make 1 or 2 hit hard knockdown activate flying screen, but that doesn’t happen the majority of the time). Also, when you activate flying screen, you can HEAR sound effects that are specific to flying screen, when you follow up with normal attacks after flying screen has been activated, you’ll hear a “thin” high pitch effect.
No problem, lil’ bro. I’m okay at the game. Been playing it since elementary/middle school (since it came out) so you pick up many things along the years. Also I forgot to mention flying screen can be activated off of a superas well; just to name a few: ken’s shinryuken & capcom’s captain sword activate flying screen even though they’re supers (not air combos). Black heart heart of darkness activates FS as well, but ironically if you have him as a last character and use the THC (both assist buttons & you chose BH with anti air assist, you can keep spamming his heart of darkness super in the corner in an infinite loop til you run out of meter/bars or the opponent gets K.O.ed.
You should do videos of having all the legends of MVC2 like Justin Wong, IFCYIPES etc... And have them reach a technique of the day on MVC2 where they go into detail.. that would be sick!!
Yeah the LP+HP (LK+HK) Super/LP+HP Dash system in this game makes me want to get a stick. The hidden mediums was the most baffling thing I encountered when I was starting out

It's 2024 and I'm playing mvc2 on my ps5. This video is extremely helpful
Just play on Fightcade 2, it's better there.
Here waiting for the collection
I still remember how they used to think MVC2 was a baby game. LMAO
The boomer "back in my day" mentality is going to persist until the end of time. I swear in the next 2 years people are going to compare sf6 to sf5 and call sf6 a watered down version of sf5 without actually ever playing sf5.
Who's they
@@elvistwatty A lot of people at least at the arcade I was at. However, that was only as first. They were more excited to see what characters were going to be unlocked.
@BungBusMonkeSucks Amazing prediction, its currently happening people are complaining about "neutral skips" and the like
And here we are over 20 years later 😅
20 yrs!!!!!! WTF!!! I was going to fun factory just to play this game. Thank you for making me feel old
We really need a twitch rivals for this after evo gone haywire
This video is actually so useful. Thank you for doing this
I have a question. After you superjump, how many frames do it takes before you can do any normal attacks?
Really appreciate these guides man
I never knew I played a character that could trijump. Playing again I learned Tron can trijump and do some fancy combo stuff. Easy enough idea but I will def need to practice it then remember to do it in a match.
The controller doesn't seem crazy since you can macro a dash button but I don't believe that was a thing in the older versions
How to get started?? I never stopped! I am so happy about the comeback~
Haven't played MvC2 since on my dreamcast forever ago and would love a more in depth series on this one since it has rollback now!
Thanks for doing this! Imreally apreciate it!
Bruh I was literally just looking for MvC2 combos and watched your Cable AHVB combo video. Didn't realize I should've been TK the input
I like to DHC strider’s “bounce around the room” combo into Commando’s “swordo” hyper combo. Less health damage than just crushing ops souls.
Bro love the mvc2 content keep it coming!!
Hey JM! I've been looking for a video explaining the most popular teams. like the composition and what their game plan is, or the individuals tasks and I haven't been able to find one! Do have any plans for something like this? I can't believe after years of mvc2 that's just something that can't be found out there
good idea i'll see what i can do
@@jmcrofts great, love your content!
This information is online, its just kind of obscure nowadays. I believe it was called the alpha-ism podcast that skisonic put out 10-12 years ago. He did an episode with Viscant years ago where they broke down most of the different top tier teams. Let me see if I can find that on RUclips and link it

Thank you very much for this!! Got the Arcade1Up cabinet, and this will come in handy!
Thank you! That first tip of how normals work I never knew lol.
Good stuff as always lad.
I would love to see more of this type of content
consider maybe doing a series " Are you a xxxx player?" to highlight strengths and weakness.
When I do an air combo and get an OTG hit I can't cancel into super. Why is that?
(Specifically I'm doing Guile's [launch] sj.lp j.lk j.mp j.hp, delay j.hp, s.lk s.mk xx Sonic Hurricane but Sonic Hurricane won't come out.)
commenting and liking to bump, plz lord jm help this man with the bombo.
That’s because FLYING SCREEN is activated. It’s not just the super you can’t activate; it’s 4 things you can’t do (listed below).
When you do an air combo, the instant you finish with a hard knockdown attack (aka almost all HPs & HKs and some specials/supers), you activate flying screen which PREVENTS you following up with:
1. Supers
2. Specials
3. Dashes (air or ground)
4. Super jump again (this is the reason why you can’t keep relaunching an opponent into an infinite air combo to ground to launch to super jump again.)
The only thing you can do is continue with normals (ground or normal jump).
@@19alucard97 you're an actual legend. Thanks.
Black heart heart of darkness activates FS as well, but ironically if you have him as a last character and use the THC (both assist buttons & you chose BH with anti air assist, you can keep spamming his heart of darkness super in the corner in an infinite loop til you run out of meter/bars or the opponent gets K.O.ed.
jmcrofts. You da GOAT for this!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I'm using a Sega Saturn controller right now for the 6 face buttons and I gotta do some frenzied finger yoga to combo into super in this game reliably. The hidden mediums was the most baffling thing I encountered when I was starting out
It's amazing to see proper tutorials of this game after Soo long of it's release!!
I still want to learn more about resets amd ok there proper techniques!? 🤗☺️
Man i was so confused why the light punches changes after the presses and i thought it was like a range thing, kinda make sense now why they decided to hide the medium moves now
What do the variety types when you choose a character mean
Yes! This game needs a modern community to teach new people
Thank you so much for this info! It would have taken me a good while to learn this.
This was a great tutorial. Thank you!
You can also super jump cancel normals idk if you mentioned it
This was realy helpfull. I hope you are going to make more videos like that about mvc2
Wow, any idea how he was able to set up that awesome joystick and button display on screen??
Have I been rolling wrong? I was playing tonight and doing QCB +fierce and it works
What about Advanced Guard? I think that's how it's called.
It's not really a marvel specific mechanic, it's the same thing as pushblock.
But I agree he should have gone over it.
