    hey, I just subscribed to your channel. I am so inspired by this single video as my dream is also to become an engineer in Canada. I want to apply to UBC or Waterloo. I just wanted to ask what are the key steps I should take as a Junior student to achieve my dreams other than do well in my academics?

    • @DustinBrett
      @DustinBrett  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much, I am happy to hear you liked my video. I think the most important thing to achieving your dreams is to have a passion for the things you do. For me technology was always something I loved to learn. As for academics, they likely can indeed help, but I never personally went to university or college so I can't say how much it would have helped me.

    Hi new subscriber here 👋. Im so inspired with your video and I'm planning to move and find a job as software engineer in Vancouver, currently I'm preparing IELTS and ECA for express entry program. I just wanted to ask, is it hard to find a job as software engineer in Vancouver? i have 3 years experience as a backend developer, i dont mind about big or small companies

    • @DustinBrett
      @DustinBrett  5 месяцев назад +1

      Happy to hear my videos inspired you. Indeed it is easy to find work, but only if you aren't picky and you hustle. When I moved here I started at the "bottom" in a startup of just a few people based on an ad I found in Craigslist. You need to find your own opportunities as it's harder than ever to be handed them, but they exist for those with the drive. Good luck!

      It's not that impressive to be honest, but I hope to be getting a new work laptop in the next few months. The one I have now is an 11th Gen 4-Core Intel i7 with 16 GB's of RAM, SSD, no discrete graphics. I'd like the 14th gen CPU's with 8+ cores and 64 GB of RAM, but we will see what I get given.

      @@DustinBrett Excellent. The big tech companies seem to be purging staff these days

    • @DustinBrett
      @DustinBrett  4 месяца назад +1

      @@aa-kh9ex They are for sure getting rid of people, but most of the layoffs and firings I saw had some logic behind them. The least controlled ones were when the team/project was not doing well, which is not in control of the developers quite often. A few months before I made this video my team was dissolved, but I was able to move to a new team which was better in most everyway, so I got lucky. Also they did a lot of over hiring when Covid started, which is when I got onboarded. For the last few years they have slowed down with hiring.

    I completely understand that you must have a hectic schedule, but I couldn't pass up the chance to propose something truly meaningful. Would it be possible for us to have a Google Meet or any sort of online video conferencing chat? Your website, with its own operating system, has left me utterly amazed. Being a final year computer science student from India, the impact it has had on me is indescribable. Your talent and expertise shine through every aspect of your creation, and I find myself yearning to get some guidance directly from someone as extraordinary as you. Please, sir, if you could find even a small window of time like 10 mins, it would be an absolute honor for me to have a conversation with you. Your guidance and insights would be invaluable as I embark on my own journey in the field of software development. Thank you for being such a profound source of inspiration!
