Well done! As a wildlife photographer as well, I know all too well how hard it is to video and photograph the Bufflehead and Hooded Mergansers without scaring them off!
I purchased a blind and a propane heater for the same reasons. It works well but these birds leave Oklahoma in the Spring to migrate to their breeding places. Do they breed where you are? I am in search of videoing Loons, Grebe, and Merganser chicks this year. I may only video one species as the Loons and Grebe chicks ride on the backs of their parents for about two weeks after hatching. Small window unless I can find them in the same areas!
@@horseflyphotography what blind did ya get? Yeah they breed where I’m at here in Missouri, I have a grebe at one lake by me that is so tame, hopefully he or she finds a mate and can get some photos of the chicks. But as far as loon I have not been lucky enough to see them yet!
Those hooded mergansers are absolutely STUNNING 😱!! Where did you film them? I just checked Cornell's site, and apparently, they've been sited in my area and region. I will be keeping an eye out for these little guys, and on an upcoming trip we're taking to southern AZ. I live in southern CO, in the river that runs through town (so lucky to live here), many species of migratory ducks come in the winter, but until this year, the only ones I was really acquainted with were the common goldeneyes. I've looked forward to seeing them arrive on our river for over 10 years. Last year, I took my interest in birding up a notch, and upgraded my gear from a D40/55-200 lens to a D7500/AF-P 70-300 last fall (if money were no object, I'd have gotten a Z8 or Z9), and have had a blast walking down the river trail to observe and photograph them. We also get bufflheads here, and they love to hang out with the common goldeneyes. But, imagine my excitement when I shot some pics on Xmas day, came back, and discovered after viewing the downloads that some were actually Barrow's goldeneyes, which are technically not even found where I live. They were also swimming with some buffleheads. Yesterday, along the river, it was red-tailed hawks, common mergansers, both kinds of goldeneyes, buffleheads, and a single American wigeon male - I got some great pics of him. We also get green-winged teals, great blue herons and bald eagles...though I've only seen one at a distance this season 😕. It's really a transcendent experience to sit and watch birds and other wildlife.
Thanks for taking time to watch!! The merganser I found here in Mo, they come here and breed and they like the cold weather! I would love to get a common golden eye but they are pretty skittish around here so it’s definitely gonna take some time for me get to them! The dslr is still a great camera! Trust me if I had the money I’d get the Sony A1 but unfortunately that’s not happening anytime soon! Just keep doing what your doing get out there and explore and you will find that you come across a lot of great species of birds out there!!! 😊😊
Beautiful work mate!. The ducks we have in the UK are nowhere near as interesting ad these guys, thiugh Tufted ducks can be pretty cool. Out if curiosity have you teied using a floating hide to get close to them.?.
Thank you!!! I appreciate you taking time to watch my friend! I’m not to familiar with the ducks in UK but I’m sure you guys have some beautiful ducks/birds there!! And no I have not tried floating hide, it’s not in the budget at the moment 😂
Some great footage and pics! I never seen ducks like these! Cool. I wonder how close you should be to be able to record their sound? Cool video, you went the extra mile to conceal yourself haha. Are they scaredy birds? My very first ever “nature” or bird photograph was a duck (can’t identify sorry, it was back in Hungary tho at lake Balaton, it’s the most common brown duck there) came up close to my feet while I was sitting on a bench. Probably hoping for some food and I snatched a photo on my Benq digital cam.. good memories. I wasn’t a fan of birds back then but somehow already felt that that picture is special. I wish I still got it somewhere.. anyway, thanks for coming to my ted talk. I subscribed! Where was this btw?
Thank you! They are definitely skittish birds! I had to be in my camo hide to even get close, otherwise they would have flown off! Aww that’s awesome I don’t remember my first photo I wish I did.. but I hope you have the photo still that a great memory!! Thanks for subscribing and the support I greatly appreciate it!!! This was taken in Missouri!
Thank you! Yeah they are very skittish, I had to plan my attack lol. Use a hide of some sort and wait they will come back around! The song is April sky by ten towers on epidemic app
