I really appreciate your commentary on the behavior of your subjects. I learn a lot from watching your videos. I’m very interested in learning about the animals as well as photographing them. I really think that the more we know, the better photographers we will be, but also, it will allow us to take care not disturb them or stress them for the sake of a photo. Beautiful work!
That is simply incredible footage and photos of the wood ducks done from shore! So skitterish by me and never got that close. Great light too. And the colors on the pied-billed grebe photos were awesome! Love your enthusiasm!
Outstanding photos of the wood ducks! They're my favorite duck, but I seldom see them in my area. Occasionally, they pass through. They seem to be very skidish. Excellent narration.
Your Friend in Germany is the first one to watch and comment. hahaha....Love your videos Todd...Thank you so much for doing these. Lance Chennault Photography.
If I'm right Wood ducks are loosely related to the Mandarin duck we get in the UK, originally from China but now happily part of our eco system! The females look almost identical on both species!
Another great video. Thanks Todd. I have a question. Do you use VR when shooting on a tripod? I tend to get jerky video when it's turn on, particularly in Normal mode; not so much in SPT mode.
Thanks for watching! It depends on the situation. If I am using a tripod and have the electronic stabilization on I don't tend to get the jerkiness because the tripod helps to keep things steady as well. If I am hand holding I do get some jerkiness with the electronic stabilization on because the camera is trying to hold the frame steady even with all the movement. I have turned off the electronic stabilization sometimes to avoid this, there is more movement in the frame but at least it is then smooth and not jerky looking. For the slow motion videos, the electronic stabilization is not an option so tripod is usually the best bet to get smooth video. I tend to keep the stabilization on sport all the time when shooting video, both on and off tripod. This makes the frames smoother in the view finder and I don't see any real noticeable difference in sharpness with it on or off.
Do you always use the Z9 on a tripod? I’m a canon shooter, and Nikon lenses interest me, but I am more of a wondering photographer. Most of my work is handheld, and weight is a consideration.
I tend to use the tripod simply for the need to get smooth videos. The Z9 does a really nice job of stabilizing the frames if you are shooting handheld so you definitely do not need a tripod. As far as weight, I am using an older model prime so it is heavy and realistically am only able to handhold for a few minutes . the newer lenses are much lighter so I am thinking it would be a better option and would be much more handhold able.

Can't believe the gorgeous markings and colors in the coats of these ducks!
Thanks for watching they are really impressive looking ducks!

Thanks for watching as always! I was very fortunate they were so tolerant of me. They usually fly off as soon as any noise happens near them

Thanks for watching! They are usually very skittish so I was happy to get some photos of them for this video!
Thanks for the excellent video. I frequent this spot often. There are currently 2 grebes in this location as well as some blue winged teals
Thanks for watching and thanks for the info! I'll try to head back up there hopefully before they disappear!
