Some of the most utterly mad hitting I've ever seen. It's scary how hard Thiem hits the ball.
Only thinking of Wawrinka Soderling and Del Potro
With precision and good location too.
That just shows how desperate he is for wining this match
@@lessonlearned9399 good location = send back the spaniard to majorca
Fernando Gonzalez for sure
One more thing about Thiem, it's great how respectful he is of the ball boys/girls.
Irrelevant, actually...
@@gogigogic1936 I feel sorry for someone who thinks it is irrelevant to be nice to other people. Perhaps you should take a good look at your own values.
@@christhornton1785 My values are on spot. Thiem is there to play tennis, not to admire ball collectors. I found players do that to get cheap points at the audience and media.
@@gogigogic1936 B.S.
gogi gogic Not everyone is respectful to ball kids, you know...Djokovic had an incident with a ball girl and left her in tears
Thiem is waaaay to humble. What a good guy.
It's part of the new robot design. Do you like it?
This is not a shock. Thiem is one of the very few who can take it to the big 3. It’s his time now.
If Thiem beats Nada at FO then talk shock
Kun Huo I Agree !
Why not- Nadal will be 34 in a few months, he's got a very good chance of beating Nadal on clay now, as does Stan, if God mode turns up, or Roger.
@@pauljohnson6019 Roger beating Rafa at RG? Is that what you are saying? I'm a Fed fan just like you, but I can tell you right now that Federer's chances of beating Rafa at RG are zero
@@pauljohnson6019 Nadal is already 34
not really much of a shock as Thiem has been closing in on the Big 3 in the past year....an upset, but not of shocker....
well "upset" and "shock" are pretty much the same thing.
Wouldn't say it's an upset either
@@unowen7591 an upset is more of technical as Nadal is the number 1 seed, beaten by another seeded but lower ranked player...it can be a shocker if the player is number 80 in the world...and not in Thiem's case...
No upset or shock, it's just some people aren't able to accept it lol, also the umpire is Nadal's nightmare
@@user-zf3ue4nr5g were talking about upset as a game term, not the emotion upset..
@@angel91485 The term is emotional itself already, the thumbnail is mean to be spin control, we all be cool~~
For anyone looking to a potential Theim Djokovic Final, Thiem has beaten Djokovic 4 out of the last 5 times. Think about that.
@Sohaib Khan how man i hope your pup is gonna lose bad, is luck will finally run out if he faces thiem in the final.
I understand Ur pain in Nadal loss. But Dnt mess with Djokovic he will show Theim his way out.
True, but 3/4 of Thiem's wins over Djokovic were on clay and the AO is like Djokovic's backyard, much like Wimbledon is for Federer and the FO is for Nadal. Djokovic has a perfect 7/7 record in finals here. Beating him in the final is almost on the same level as beating Rafa at the FO. Thiem will make it a good match but beating Novak is unlikely.
That's true though. Novak really brings his best in Australia if he's able bodied. I'm guessing the crowd will favour him too. I really want Roger to tire him out for the final, if not beat him.
Sohaib Khan that’s what they said at the US open, look what happened. Anything can happen if they play eachother
I remember saying a few years ago that Thiem remind me of a younger Nadal. He hits the ball extremely hard. He’s super fast on his feet. He has intense focus and determination. Plus the doesn’t give up when he’s opponent break him. That’s how he was able to come right back after Nadal broke him. Congrats Thiem. You deserve this!
I was rooting for Thiem, and after Nadal broke back in the 4th set, I remember thinking: "Damn, that could have been it!" But then Thiem reminded me of Nadal when he shook off that minor setback like a champion that he is
Bro nadal and thiem do not play the same the only similarities they have are their intensities
What a player. He just keeps improving.
Theim is such a class act and a tremendous player. He’ll be winning many slams in his career
Doesn't look like it
whom ever writes these titles doesn't know much about the players. You can't call it a shock he won. first all he is #5 and he has played Nadal very well the last few years
plus when nadal isn't at the french....he is almost expected to lose
Nadal is overrated yo😂😂😂
its anybodys game...thiem is lucky today, the tape of the net favors him.. a lot.. dont be silly. nadal has a bad day too.. he missed opportunities like break serves that really matter as well as thiem too
@@Saiputera nah... he fought hard even things does not go his way..
@@Saiputera dumbest comment ever
Thiem hits the ball so damn hard
I wouldn't say "shock," considering how good Thiem has become.
He's beaten Rafa a couple times now, even on clay
Not couple times 4 times on clay... Only lesser than djokovic..... Had a postive head to head again djokovic and Federer last year... And overall leads Federer
True
Thiem even bageled both Djoker and Rafa in Grand Slams... losing against Thiem doesn't mean that you played bad, Thiem is a great player who plays on amaaaaazing levels on a good day
Still an upset because Rafa is higher ranked and has won 19 more majors than Thiem, but it was not the same level of upset as Nadal's loss to Soderling in RG 2009
Glad there's RUclips highlights.
Can we not get a 7 minute extended highlight video like we did for the Kyrgios match?....
There is a 20-minute one but it's so herky-jerky I feel like I have a brain tumor or some sort of palsy.

The best match this tourney. Both guys were so clutch in each set, incredible ball striking throughout the whole match and best overall grand slam match since their USO encounter last year.
Congratulations Thiem !!!! Love, love the way you played and beat Nadal. Looking good with those new highlights on your hair. Best of luck moving forward***Peace***
Well-done Thiem and Rafa ,finish the job Tiem through the end AO 2020 ,good luck !!!
Loved the writing for the commentary
I'm a die hard Rafan but I have nothing but admiration for thiem. The way he hit the ball today, literally talking the cover off whenever he came forward to the baseline. If u can keep that amount of power and precision in your shots for 4 straight hours, u deserve to beat the greats. Good luck to the Austrian for the future round matches! ❤️
Here I am, in the middle of May, still watching AO highlights 😭
La fuerza sigue contigo,Pequeño Aprendiz.Seguimos Jugando.Con Ñ siempre.Vamós Rafa.
This is stunning. Thiem did to Nadal what Nadal usually does to others. Balls look like they're going out, but just land in. Awesome match by Thiem.
Thiem is wonderful!! And very humble.
Emotional.....!! I Want to Cry, but I Love Both. Anyway Congratulation Thiem......!!!!!
Thiem is no joke! The dude has been playing really well.. take that back... astonishingly well!
Theim matched Nadal today shot by shot. But his weapon was accuracy which Nadal failed to replicate. Theim did have some lucky breaks but can't take away the deserved win from him. Nadal had his moments, sad to see him exit at such a crucial stage. Would have loved the Federer-Nadal final if it happened
Fed is out, it would have been Djokovic, which would have meant 70% chance Novak would have won, but Nadal could have beaten him, knowing 20GS was within his reach, and would have been really inspired, and probably done something 'a little special,' to unnerve Novak, so all in all, I'm glad beyond belief Nadal is gone, no more threat to Fed now, at least at best, Novak wins this, but is 3 behind, and Fed gets RG and Wimbledon later this year, and gets to 22 slams.
@@pauljohnson6019 Fed getting RG over Nadal's dead body
@@thegame5687 Fed got to the semi finals last year, never count him out, it would be actually quite ironic, and poetic justice, if he got a 2nd RG, on Rafa's surface, again- this is RF we're talking about, if anyone can do miracles, he can.
@@pauljohnson6019 I ain't never count him out. But let's not act like Nadal doesn't always beat Federer in RG. Soderling is the only one who can pull it off...
@@pauljohnson6019 if Novak faces Theim in the finals, there is a strong chance he will lose. The head to head record of Theim is impressive, winning 4 of his last 5 outings with Novak. If there's any player who can beat both Nadal and Novak in the same tournament, it's potentially Theim.

It was inevitable that this would happen. Unbelievable match.
I'm a big fan of Thiem. So proud of him
I love you Thiem!!!
Way to go Domi now go get that major
Already one of the matches of the year
Being a Nadal fan this is heart breaking to watch but this has been a problem with Nadal, whenever he plays someone with more agility and endurance than him he struggles like with Djoker in this case Thiem. He still fought hard but it got to him in the end. Those countless net points remind me of the younger days when Nadal played Federer, he used to get the same points against Federer. Man this increases my respect for Federer where he also struggled to play against players with more endurance and defense play like Nadal, he found ways to overcome them, like we saw this couple of days against Tennys and Millman, but Thiem was completely a different beast against Nadal, he deserved this match. Now I hope at least one of the Next Gen takes the crown.
with big hiters like Dominic hit just hardest as you can and you can change the story
Thiem will be the next gen champion he played really well
Thiem won the battle of the big booties. Well done

Top game. More one Top Five player to make our Tennis much wonderful.
Dominic Thiem is really tough to handle right now.
Before long it'll be unplayable in grand slam, regardless of the playing surface.
Certainly, expect for Wimbledon. He's still pretty bad on grass compared to clay and hard courts.
He almost lose couple matches, yes he is good but lucky.
@Ferdous Alam It's not slow. Maybe not as quick as it used to be but far from slow. He just doesn't know how to play on grass yet.
We need this thiem back
I can watch this match again it was that good.....so many quanlity shots.....thiem was on fire today....I just wonder sometimes why this guy doesn't win Grand slams.....I mean he got amazingly backhand &forehand.....ok serve...ok net game......

Great Match! Bittersweet for Thiem, He choked against Nadal in 2018 US Open, I think the Youngbloods are finally arriving, I remember the great David Ferrer saying you have to be lucky to beat Rafa, So true! Rafa is the greatest competitor in all of Sport
bravo Thiem !
I have been saying. Thiem is going to be better and better. He keeps improving. Drastic difference from a couple years ago. He can hit hard now without error. In addition, I like his low key humble attitude. Just like his countryman Arnold S the terminator...Lol
Thiem's level of tennis is right up there with the Big 3 on hard courts now. Of course we already know he's been the second best on clay for the last 2-3 years. In recent months he's beaten Roger and Novak at the ATP Finals and now Rafa here. His game doesn't have any weaknesses now, other than the backhand service return. Hopefully he can keep this up because tennis needs more players in the mix at the top.
Extremely good analysis.
Run arround the backhand.to hit the forehand winner is always a good weapon , graf and Federer does that
What a great time to be tennis fan !
Great match
When someone hits the ball as hard or even harder than you and with more accuracy, that always shocks the hell out of me. Yup, I’m sure Nadal’s pride was shocked today.
Great, hope that Thiem or Sasha wins the title. Just got tired of the big 3 winning all the slams.
I am definitely in Dominic's THIEM
Theim has the best forehand in the world at present, generates around 7000 RPM
yeah come ooooooooon
Nadal had no solutions. Thiem was clearly superior.
I saw Nadal losing, before he even lost
NADAL HAD NO CHANCE AGAINST THIEM THE YOUNG N UP RISING STAR. WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED, IF HE WINS THE TITLE. NADAL'S EGO IS CRUSHED N THIS GUY THIEM PUT NADAL IN HIS PLACE. NADAL SHOULD BE PENALISE FOR TAKING SO LONG BEFORE HE SERVES. GO THIEM GO.
I strongly disagree. Thiem didn't serve well throughout the match. and if it weren't for Rafa's costly mistakes and misjudgments at crucial points, Rafa would have easily won. But, Theim has played better previously, I can give you that.
willing in 3 tie breaks is NOT superior
@@hyd916 it's okay since you started following tennis last year, For me I don't see any ego in Nadal not since 2007.

MULIYE CHUULA As nice as it sounds , I don’t see him beating Novak , in fact I don’t see anyone who can do that right now . Roger is old and injured , Rafa gonna get smash like last year if they meet in the final anyway , only Stan the man is capable of beating him , too bad he was outed by Zverev , and god know which Sasha will show up at Friday .
Even me too
@@Leo-nc3yx The same Roger who curshed Rafa and almost crushed Novak in Wimb?
Also, the same Roger who absolutely crushed Novak in ATP Nitto Finals?
I am modest He’s injured dude sadly he ain’t beating Novak tonight
@@sasook He said he is good and isn't injured, and I am not seeing he will or will not beat Novak. But you can just assume he won't before the match.
In Nitto Finals, Roger didn't perform well on matches prev to match with Novak, but in match with Novak he just took his game to another level.
So you never really know anything before the match.
it seems that Thiem has figured Nadal out where most people haven't....you can't just go trading for power and movement with nadal....You could see Thiem hitting arcing balls to the baseline most of the rallies and not moving nadal around much. These arcing balls don't bounce beyond the baseline much so Nadal couldn't stand too far behind the baseline, taking away his angles and also setting up perfecttly for passing shots...and when nadal t ries to go for a powerful crosscourt shot, he hits it back harder towards Nadal forcing Nadal to simply redirect the shots
you could see Nadal a bit flustered when Thiem not only got to those shots to the corners, but hittingi them back with such power
It’s true Thiem plays him better than most, but Nadal is still 9-5 against him. Nadal knows how to beat him, but he failed to execute today. I like his chances as the season progresses and he gains more confidence in his game. As for Thiem, I’m hoping he wins his first major. I love his game.

Thiem good atitude
Vulnerability was still there as I have been saying....one of the instances is when he couldn't convert 5-3 in the first set...This was kind of expected outcome. Good hard fought battle and I am not surprised with the outcome. Domi is correct, you do need some luck to win against Nadal. Congrats Domi!!
The 5-3 game was a ridiculously good game but Thiem was just a bit better. Nadal was in it but Thiem played godlike with 3 outright winners after brutal rallies. Ultra clutch

Mad Skills 🎾
Every tennis players are desperately to reach the final but for Nadal it not for him to reach the final at this moment it went to Theim. Young guys tennis players are playing seriously to reach the final 💪
The umpire was doing her job. She did the right thing. It was very unprofessional of Nadal went up and criticized her in a very unprofessional manner. What a shame!
Still RAFA forever 😘 Hope you will win the next 3 grand slams😍 Love you a lot💖💖💖Congrats to Theim👏🏻This is a great opportunity to win his maiden grand slam 🤝🏻
No way.May be chance for French .With Djokovic back in form and other guys schooling Nadal.I Dnt think he will.
He just need to equal Federer's record at French open then he will win remaining two for sure
@Ferdous Alam Some times confidence is also important. Also if he wins french open he will equal federer's record, that will take some pressure of him, because of which he will play more better at next two grandslams. wait till french open. I think RAFA will surpass federer this year
@Ferdous Alam we will see after french open
Bash and hope had lots of luck this time.
wow! rafa's last shot.. well done Thiem.. get the title please
The only shocker was Theim didn't win in straight
wagsbass how was that a shocker? Nadal will never go out without fighting. Actually, Theim had to fight to win each set! Only set that didn’t had a tie break was won by Nadal. Also, Nadal is used to be in pressure situations. Out of the top 3 seeds, he is most used to being in 5 set matches. You cannot turn him down, even when he is injured. This time he wasn’t even injured.

The greatest 😱 face i’ve ever seen
1:07, "Crono"? Is that what he said? Is that an alternate way of saying "clock" in Spanish?
Nadal hitting his trademark forehand to the net on the last point summed it all up
Thiem's play reminds me of when Novak broke through and started to win majors consistently. Spectacular movement, hitting the ball deep, hard, and with great placement, and winning grind-out games/tiebreaks. He's not the same caliber returner or defender, but is he ever fun to watch. Wouldn't be surprised if this is his first major win.
not shocked one bit, we knew thiem was world class for ages
At 1:49 he does not have to do that..many players won’t..he is such a great player and has respect for the opponent. He is the only guy with nick I am rooting for to win a slam..
Rafa was up against an opponent who knew his game well and had come close in the last few seasons, who was also younger and fitter and who managed to outhit Rafa, something unusual!
Now that rafa is out, i'm rooting for theim to win his first grand slam. I like his game the most aside from shapovalov amongst the youngsters. he's a cool guy too, exciting to watch with that big ground game.
I like the back hand of dominic using one hand.it is federer style.
Thiem will be the next new #1 reign.
I'm a bit conflicted. I'm a fan of Thiem's but I'm also a fan of Djokovic. Should they meet in the final, I would have to pick one of them to root for. I think I would ultimately side with Djokovic simply because I would like to see his slam count closer to Nadal's and Federer's. But I definitely want Thiem to win some slams in his career. He's right on the cusp and the dude is playing phenomenal tennis right now. I think he'll beat Zverev and be in the final though.
Yes, but not to be forgotten, Rafa is almost in his 40s. So, a big credit and applause should be given to him also.
I think this is Thiem turn to turn the odds
