Hey analog first glad you're feeling better and second I believe the reason they don't consider the king's magic killing louis is because he's got pass it before even without the spear
The royal magic would only chain Louis if he tried to use the fake lance, at least initially. He would have to actively resist/struggle to cause the magic to outright kill him, which Louis would surely refrain from. That being said, I also wondered why the group did not consider this as an option at this point. I can only assume that the reasoning is that they thought Louis might somehow outwit them and not end up going through with his plans or using the lance? It would also likely be anything but covert since they would have to kill Louis in a public space (since Louis said he wanted to give Forden a "memorable end").
