- "Patrice Grell Yursik is the founder of Afrobella®. According to some, she's the Godmother of Brown Beauty Blogging. Trinidadian-born writer Patrice Grell Yursik created Afrobella.com in 2006, to fill a void and to celebrate the inner and outer beauty of women all shades of beautiful. Her popular, award-winning blog shines a loving light on natural hair and the wonderfully wide range of gorgeous skin tones and sizes women come in.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Love this. Some people will never understand how it feels to not be part of those who are considered beautiful in this country/world. This superficial society of beauty is all about the skinny, lighter skin/hair/eyes look. Most women do not look or live like that. Billions of dollars are spent in being ashamed of how we look. Kudos to you for speaking on fear. And thanks to TedX Talks for this moment to be shared the world over.
You are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and an inspiration to me. Thank younger sharing your gift with us.
Patrice, your Dad (who I know and respect) must be very proud of you, as I am, for your great giving message which I know has lifted all who have viewed this! I'm a Trini living abroad like you and so great to see you visit in time for Carnival with such sunshine already in your soul!! Have a good one!! And fire one for me!!

Been a follower of yours for years. This was a brave act of courage. Never knew you had so much insecurity. You give others courage just by stepping out into the light.
You encouraged me to continue moving forward. As you said, by doing so, we may be encouraging someone else. Way to go on your talk!! I just found your blog today and this video. Patrice, I love your website and spirit. I think you are an amazing person. I thought this video was wonderful and it was really great to get more insight into you as a person. Unfortunately you will at your level of success will not only deal with people who adore you but those that do not. There is a way to give constructive criticism without coming off as being an insulting ass but unfortunately not every is as gifted in that department. You are a BEAUTIFUL black woman, keep your head up.
I love the courage! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Patrice, for sharing your story and for inspiring us to seek the courage within ourselves! You're even more beautiful than the day I met you 10+ years ago =)

Courage
Never ceases to amaze me that those who like to leave pointless, tasteless and hurtful comments are those who hide behind anonymity, hiding in the dark while you denigrate those brave enough to lay bare their feelings, thoughts and ideas. If you truly believe you have anything of worth to contribute make yourself known to the world you sickening, spineless trolls
...the person who uses a sunset as their avatar, feels the need to comment on my appearance. Hilarious! By my own admission, I learned to believe in my own beauty despite the existence of myopic and hateful people like you who try to tear others down. My talk is about COURAGE. It takes courage to confront bullies, and I will continue to speak out against ugly attitudes like yours. While you're busy recommending others do some internal reflection, you may want to do some of that yourself.
The title of this Ted Talk is interesting; but Patrice Grell Yursik changes the topic from fashion to being fat. She completely twists the subject of her title to convincing people that being fat is beautiful. As fashion goes from the waist up Yursik is okay; but from the waist down she looks like a fashion don't. Love the title; hate the talk.
sooner u rid urself of feminist delusions the happier ur husband (and therefore u) will be stop disrespecting him and urself
Do not whine over comments, you decided to be a public speaker and it comes with the territory . At least have the backbone to see how you are perceived by the audience. By your own admission "you" do not believe in your own beauty. I could care less. You have defined no beauty to me, or to yourself. I deduce you as a cry-baby and a little bit of internal reflection is advised.
