    Oh Karina, I can't explain how happy this video makes me! I've always thought zippers were difficult and avoided patterns that include them (probably because most of my experience is the annoyance of replacing zippers in readymade garments), so this video is a real eye opener. Many thanks for the clear instructions and no, I wont tell anyone what the pattern might be... although it is already Friday here, so I might just go and have a look at you know where.

    Hi Karina - thanks for another great sewing video, I'm going to give this a try today as I've been looking at refining my zip's so this is a good addition to learn the techniques. I have a question on another subject perhaps another video idea? When drafting my own patterns I've struggled to find a way to store them so that I can see them easily if needed and not take up too much space. I tried hanging them on hooks, but just don't have the room. A4 Envelopes I've got are too small - how do you keep track and store your own personal patterns so you can reuse again when needed?

    Dear Karina, what size is the center seam? It looks like 5/8?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 года назад

      See at minute 3:20. It does not matter what seam allowance it is. Because this technique can be applied to any pattern, use the one the original pattern is drafted with.

  • @Widespread-Panic

    I'm curious as to whether the measurement (1-3/4") you gave for the template are good for both men's and women's garments?

  • @stonewarebirds3620
    @stonewarebirds3620 Год назад

    Unfortunately what i didn’t realise was that the fly section had to be cut at the time you cut the whole trouser leg. I had got stuck with a very poor pattern instruction and thought your method was a solution, and because of the interfacing - despite having watched the film twice before i did anything - it looked as if you laid the two fly pieces over the centre seam, and it was only when i turned mine inside out at the same time as yours and i had a seam allowance showing and you didn’t that i realised my mistake. Perhaps it would be good to show you cutting the fabric to make this really clear? Thank you anyway.
    also really curious about why you don’t put pins at a right angle to the seam and sew straight over the pins? A lot less hassle than taking them out as you go.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Год назад

      I never put pins like you say because I don’t think they line up the raw edges accurately. It’s all preference and I don’t think I do is wrong per se. It’s been ok for me for a long time. I don’t film cutting out because it’s the only section of the process I do in my own time. Filming it all is super exhausting, but if you’ve never made sewing videos, you’d never know.

    • @stonewarebirds3620
      @stonewarebirds3620 Год назад

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles i understand if it is time consuming, no i’ve never made sewing videos strangely enough, so perhaps make it clear verbally? I never said you did the pins wrong, i was simply curious. Sorry if i have offended you i was simply trying to flag up a problem i encountered, you did say you were open to constructive criticism and i wasn’t even criticising just making a suggestion and being curious…

      I showed exactly the measurements and how I added it to the Center front of the original piece. I don’t think it was necessary to see me cutting the piece of paper. Also, the length of the piece will vary with the length of the zipper needed.
