  • In this video, Jason Plant goes over the clothing he uses while fishing. Proper clothing is important while you’re out on the lake all day. It can help you stay dry and regulate your temperature whether it’s hot or cold outside.

I really love what you are saying about clothes and that is something a lot of people overlook.
The biggest thing to be aware of in places like Texas (where I am from) is sun protection. I am a tall guy…6’7”. No one…and I mean NO-ONE makes pants with a 40” inseam. I have to wear shorts that leave my lower leg susceptible to the sun and lather up every 30 minutes with sunscreen. While I am somewhat fortunate a lot of XXL long sleeve shirts fit me okay I know some people the sleeve stops mid forearm. Again, lathering up with sunscreen every 30 minutes to protect ourselves. That means time we could be fishing but can’t.
Big guys like to fish too. Can one of these companies start making some sun protection clothes for taller and bigger guys? Longer pants. Longer shirts. Bigger gloves.

Thanks for this helpful info but I would have liked more details about the clothing items. What makes gloves good or bad, for example, or are floater jackets recommended, etc? I'm a newbie female fishing from shore in cold weather, slightly concerned about falling into a frigid river. I'm finding the rocks slippery and the hip waders I bought have terrible traction on the shorelines. I've heard that hip waders flip people off their feet and put their heads underwater. I'm trying to find a balance between clothing that keeps me warm and not wanting to sink like a stone if I end up in it :)

In Texas, button front fishing shirts are the way to go.

Reapers are the best hands down … however the T’s are average and are expensive I find Pelagic Wear hands down the best more bang for the buck & quality ..just my opinion..I would love to see better designs / branding across the board showing off the aftco brand ..

Because of skin cancer from the sun. If you don’t have good sun protection, you can get cancerous spots that the doctor will have to cut out so it doesn’t spread. You have to wear spf clothing or sunscreen.
