Celebrating Maria João Pires’ 80th birthday (23 July) watch our music video from 1997 featuring the iconic pianist and an excerpt from her recording of the first Schubert Impromptu from the Op. 142 set of 4. The recording is taken from Pires' 1997 Schubert album 'Le Voyage Magnifique', which presents both of Schubert's sets of 4 Impromptus, Op. 90 & 142, together with the 3 Klavierstücke D. 946. The album has recently been remastered in Dolby Atmos.
Newly remastered in Dolby Atmos is Pires' 1998 album featuring Chopin’s Piano Concert No. 1 with Emmanuel Krivine and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. That orchestral work is coupled on the album with 3 solo pieces: the Fantaisie Op. 49, "Fantaisie-Impromptu" Op. 66 and Berceuse Op. 57.
