I love your videos man. I’m 43 and it’s just down to earth and real. Appreciate it. I’m buying this lens today. Been endlessly researching between 150-600 sigma, all Sony telephoto lenses, tamron etc. And I feel this is the best fit for zoo/ animal / wildlife photography in my budget

You can pump the zoom through the lens hood, that's why the lens hood design it is in the low part, to put your fingers there too, like it happens in the DSLR 100-400 lens.
The lens look quite nice. Though I don't know if your review meets the target market of this lens. I don't believe many will buy it for portraits (and even if you got some nice pictures there!), but mostly for a budget choice for nature/bird/sports photography. Instead of taking pictures of the kids, should have taken pics of a dog running and jumping around, or birds from your place, and whatnot, as those need the high shutter speeds on which you really didn't show the performance.
It should be lighter than Sigma so it will be a better travel companion. I wonder about image quality out of 70-300, there is slow amount of reviews available on RUclips.
@@sihill1989 i have the 70-300 G ( fir about 2 years) and I'd recommended it over any other mid range zoom made for Sony E. Its much under rated but a great travel lens as its pretty light too. Image quality is good in my opinion. Better than the 70-200 f4 which im selling now as its no longer needed.
Michael Millward thank you. I’ve ordered 70-300 few days back and waiting for delivery. I find this new sigma interesting and figuring out whether I should keep Sony on arrival or send it back. In the end I can stay with Sony and change later on if needed.
There are many parents who like taking pictures of their kids playing sports in fields, like baseball or football, and this would appeal to them. And given the great low light performance of Sony's newer cameras, it should do well in indoor settings too, like indoor sports or recitals and plays. And at under a grand, this should appeal to a lot of beginning professionals who want to get into shooting indoor events like graduations but don't have the budget for Sony glass.
Jared, thanks for the video. After watching the video, I began to search for the Sigma 100-400 lens only in Canon EF mount. I checked with all of the major sellers, you know who they are, but also because of your recommendation I checked out Allen's Camera. All of the major online sellers had the lens for $799.00 and I almost dropped my teeth when I saw Allen's Camera price of also $799, but wait, they had a $190 instant rebate which made my price only $609. I instantly ordered the lens, thank you for recommending Allen's Camera and this will not be my last purchase from them.
Believe it or not, the f-stop does change how good/bad the composition is. If you have a lot of background elements visible, it makes it harder to create a good composition as you have to deal with them and integrate them in a good way (composition), but if the background is very blurry, then it makes the composition easier as those elements won't interfere too much with the focused elements.
This is perfect for me. I just completed my Tamron trinity and I was looking at the 100-400 GM but I would much rather spend half of the amount! Anyone know if Tamron is planning on doing a 100-400?

When he first used that, he was so making fun of it but with every video he is releasing when he uses that, he is less sure if it really is appropriate. I highly doubt he'll ever ditch his Sony for an L-Mount Camera (if he's going to switch, it will be most likely Canon or Nikon), but Panasonic and SIGMA did earn some respect with their L-Mount releases. The lenses are all awesome, one better than the other and the cameras released so far haven't been perfect, but not worse than what the competitors offer, just different.

Sound like a no-brainer for this price if you don't need the 600mm. On the other hand you can use it with a APS-C camera and then you'll have them too.
On yet another hand, with 600mm on APS-C you get 900mm (960 as a Canon user). One of the reasons I still don't have neither; the longer the better, but I'd rather have the lighter lens than the lighter wallet 😆
How about using this as a 150-600mm equivalent on Sony's APS-C bodies? In general, how about using Sony FE lenses on APS-C bodies? This is one where the crop factor works in your favor to give you more reach.
The sony seems to be amazingly sharp and it's smaller. Also, if you have an apsc camera it makes more sense to but apsc lenses, excerpt if you're planning on moving to full frame soon.
Jared do you know how this compares to the MC-11 + Sigma 150-600mm? I wouldn't mind the extra reach for birding, but if the sigma natively for e-mount is going to be more responsive I'd consider it.
I have used the 60-600mm sigma, and the image is soft when at 600. Maybe it was the lens, but i would not buy that range again. But the 150-600 might be ok.

Sigma is very good at marketing! This lens has so much potential... except for night photography. Tried setting up my tripod and take photos of a waxing gibbous moon. Lens is so damn heavy without the tripod collar. My camera tripod foot was not balanced enough. Sigma got us!

I got this lens for wildlife and landscape photography, and was actually pretty disappointed. Even with higher shutter speed at 400mm the subjects were not nearly as sharp as I expected them to be. I returned it, and put down some more cash for the 200-600.

I feel Sigma has been designing more interesting lens then anyone else lately. For instance how many companies have made a f/1.8 zoom for aps-c cameras.

I'm very happy with the performance of my Sigma 100-400 Contemporary for Canon EF + MC-11 I use with my A6500. I'd like to see someone do a comparison of the adapted lens and the new one. I'm guessing there wouldn't be enough difference to tempt me to upgrade ( I hope). I think the 100-400 and the Sigma 16mm f1.4 are about the sharpest lenses I own.
Been meaning to get something beyond 200mm, almost dropped money on the Sony 70-350 G for my a6500, but now this gets announced. Kinda glad I didn't jump the gun back then. This will work on both my a7RII and a6500. Definitely worth the wait.

I use the sigma 70-200 sport for Canon with the mc-11 adapter. A bit heavy but works great.

The 100-400 is probably going to have more responsive autofocus since it’s native and designed for mirrorless cameras

The Tamron 70-180 2.8 is cool. Check it out.
Have the same body and 24-70. Your shoulder/neck might pay for it on a long day but it's worth it. Really want the 100-400!

This probably comes in late but generally its a good idea to first see of you like the zoom range and when needed you can also go for faster glass

It's quite unlikely. Even if they start to release new mirroless lens for rf and z mount, it takes time, and 100-400 won't be their priority.
Might get this for my Lumix S1, and as I have sad before the reviews is more than just reviews. You can always learn something about photography.

Im thinking about to select between Tamron 70-180mm and Sigma 100-400mm. Which one best for landscape photography?
For landscape photography, I'd think you want to shoot with a wider focal length. No?
