I do. XF200mm F2 from Fuji. I'm laughing when people talk about ideal focal lenght for portrait. Of course it's not really easy to talk with your model but it's even better in my opinion. Ok 200mm is not ultra zoom but it's given with x1.4 converter wich makes a 280 equiv to 420 something like f4. It's just phenomenal ... but it's far from 1000 dollars :)
I use mine for wildlife mainly but I don't do that much portrait stuff. When I have done portraits with it, I do enjoy the results. Great video as always. Love the outtakes at the end Haha
I am an amateur photographer and particularly bad at portrait shots. Some time ago, I decided to get far away from the subject and took photos at almost 500mm equivalent (on Sony RX10 M3). It came out so nice that I myself was shocked. I really want to try portraits with an ultra zoom lens now, but using my A7R M3. Considering this lens for it.
I originally bought the Sigma 150-600 in 2021, but quickly found it too big and annoying to pack and carry, especially when carrying a baby bag and other kid-related items. My wife called the lens SBL, for "Stupid Big Lens". I sold it and bought this Sigma 100-400 (Canon) and have been MUCH happier. I've now had the 100-400 for almost 3 years, and it's still one of my favorites. I shoot with a 5D Mark IV, 6D Mark II, and 7D Mark II, and it's fantastic on all of them. Super easy to toss it in the bag and go, and I've never matched the extra reach. I feel like it's not talked about very often though, so I was pleased to see this video even if it is an older upload.
Got mine in July, wonderful piece of glass. My photos are very sharp and always perfect focus. For portraits, I always used my 85 1.8 but this is amazingly convenient for framing at any distance. What a bargain this Sigma is offering mirrorless customers!

The new Sigma 100-400 for Sony e-mount is a DN version newly designed with e.g. an additional FLD lens compared to the older DSLR version (for Nikon and Canon). The image quality is better of the new, mirrorless version and thus the higher price is to some extend justified. Also, the new DN version focuses faster and I feel the OS too is slightly better than the older version. The update to the DN version (for me as a Sony user) was indeed worth it.

Half of samples in my video were shot with a7III. Works great - the only difference between Sony and Nikon version that I was shooting with was the image stabilisation - it was marginally better on Nikon at 400mm. Apart from that the quality of images and AF was the same on both.
We need a dedicated L-Mount version review! I have a nagging feeling that the performance on the S5 won’t be as spectacular. Of course I’d be more than happy to be proven wrong!
Tamron just announced their 70-300 compact inexpensive zoom for Sony E Mount that would match possibly your previous lens preference better. I imagine the Sigma is probably better overall but it’s also almost double the price even though both are great values.
ChristianDeme many older lenses don’t have IS either, simply raising the shutter speed. But for the best shot, yeah, using a tripod and saving another $400 might be a better alternative for a lot of shooters.
the Nikon and Sony versions I had were both new lenses. They are the same lenses. I have shot with both while testing and there was no visible difference in quality they both delivered
I love all three of them! My review of the 85 is coming out on Tuesday next week

Great review as always!
I’ve been entertaining the idea of getting this lens but I’m not sure if it’s gonna perform well on a7iii.
Half of samples in my video were shot with a7III. Works great - the only difference between Sony and Nikon version that I was shooting with was the image stabilisation - it was marginally better on Nikon at 400mm. Apart from that the quality of images and AF was the same on both.
Pav SZ Thanks for replay. This is not good news for my bank account.
Has anyone tried this lens with Astrophotography??? I know 6.3 is kind of slow but I am interested in star shape near the edges.
I can't help you with that - I never done any astro photography with this lens
Thank you very much
Thank you for watching!
How does this one compare to tamron 150500 ?
Sorry but I can't comment - I never used the Tamron 150-500 (yet)
Wish they made this natively for Nikon Z. I would buy one instantly lol! Really don't want to buy more lenses that need to be adapted.
me too but I was really surprised how well it performs even via FTZ adapter
@@PavSZ I know is not completely weather sealed but have you used it in wet weather?
@@mrsusan893 sorry, no
Did you try to use one of the teleconverters with this lens?
sorry, no
Just bought it. Mine is not that sharp wide open. Does anyone else have the same problem😢
it doesn't sound right. This lens should not suffer from softness wide open
Nice! I've been looking at this lens for a while now. Looks like one more lens in my collection. You have convinced me, dammit!
you won't regret it! It's a great lens
@@PavSZ I bought it, you're right, I love the lens.
Have U ever used those "similar" canon or Sony 100-400mm zoom?
I have used Sony 100-400 - I still think that Sigma is better. It's lighter, smaller and it costs 3 times less
Is this lens suck dust into the sensor
into the sensor??? never heard of that happening with any lens
hey I wonder if it is good for sport ?
outdoor sport, they say
Thank You
You're welcome
We need a dedicated L-Mount version review! I have a nagging feeling that the performance on the S5 won’t be as spectacular. Of course I’d be more than happy to be proven wrong!
I don't think there will be much difference in photography with S5
I really want Sigma to release their new Art 50mm..
what's wrong with the old one? I love it
Is it full frame or Apsc?
Full frame
Tamron just announced their 70-300 compact inexpensive zoom for Sony E Mount that would match possibly your previous lens preference better. I imagine the Sigma is probably better overall but it’s also almost double the price even though both are great values.
The Tamron doesn't have optical image stabilization, which is a deal breaker at 300mm unless you're only using it on a tripod.
ChristianDeme many older lenses don’t have IS either, simply raising the shutter speed. But for the best shot, yeah, using a tripod and saving another $400 might be a better alternative for a lot of shooters.
Love the Indian couple shots 😂❤️❤️
thanks!
Complete strangers I've asked to pose for me
I don’t think that the canon and Nikon version is the same lens as the Sony and l-mount lenses.
the Nikon and Sony versions I had were both new lenses. They are the same lenses. I have shot with both while testing and there was no visible difference in quality they both delivered
@@PavSZ They're NOT the same lenses. The old has 21 elements in 15 groups, the new DN has 22 elements in 16 groups.
@@hanswi336 they are not
The sharpeness and focus looks off on most images
sure, they are all blurred
I just bought this lens with the 24-70mm and the 85mm 1.4 in order to bridge the gap
I love all three of them! My review of the 85 is coming out on Tuesday next week
The sigma 100-400 dg dn for l-mount is a completely new lens made specifically for mirrorless cameras and is not the same lens as the old sigma 100-400.

you are right. I had both from Sigma for this review and they both were performing the same way on Nikon and Sony. As I mention in my video, Nikon version has actually more functionality but they both are equally excellent
too bad the tripod foot is backordered for 2-4 weeks..
I've shot 2 weeks with it without the tripod collar and it was ok - it's worth waiting for it if you really need it
@@PavSZ I have both this 100-400 and the Sigma 105 f.1.4. They both use the same tripod adapter, and the tripod adaptor comes with the 105. So if you have the 105 f1.4 just pull the tripod collar from that.
no Lunar photos? DISLIKE! JK love the lens man. literally made me want to buy it hahaha
I'll do some with my own when it arrives 😉
