Potatoes were about 90% of their total diet as they grew abundantly there and just about nothing else did. That was why the potato blight/famine was so ruinous for Ireland - they had virtually all their eggs (potatoes) in one basket.
One news article wrote that:
"Male labourers ate 6.5kg of potatoes every day, women and teenagers 5.1kg, and children 2.2kg...
