    I like to watch people in a higher grade then myself. Also I have started filming me and my friend playing at MSAC and it good to see yourself playing to fine tune the skills and pick out small faults. Keep playing and kick ass!!!

    @029Vicky If your friends push the ball back short, then you have a couple of options. If they are choppers and don't attack very much you could push the ball back long and then it would be hard for them to keep the ball short so you should be able to then attack. Or you could also push the ball short and wait for them to push the ball back long. The advantage of this is that you draw them in close to the table before you make a strong attack. This makes it difficult for them to recover.

  • @pingskills
    @pingskills  14 лет назад

    @ravenrose89 If the ball is short so that it would bounce twice on the table then you cannot use the topspin. This is because (as you mention) you cannot start your bat below the table and still make the correct stroke. Your options then are to push the ball back or to flick the ball. We have videos covering both of these strokes on our website. Take a look at them and see if they help you out for the short backspin balls.

  • @pingskills
    @pingskills  16 лет назад

    Thanks for your question. The main thing to take from this lesson is the correct stroke. Remember to keep things simple. The lower the ball and the more backspin on it, the more you will need to lift the ball with a vertical stroke. The camera is quite high which makes the push look a bit higher than it really is. If you look at the shots from side on and behind the ball the push looks lower.

    @keshikalunch You can definitely improve using a robot. However I think that you can do more if you have someone who can give you mulit-ball. I think that multi-ball gives you an experience closer to what you will get in a game. Multi-ball is where a coach (or training partner) has a bucket of balls and hits them to you one after the other. As the person is hitting them with a Table Tennis bat it is more match like and they can vary things at any stage.

    @broro100 The choice of rubbers is a personal one. If you like the Hurricane 3 neo better then you should definitely use it. Picking something you are comfortable with is important because then it allows you to concentrate on your technique. If you are always worried about your rubber, your mind thinks that is the problem. So based on what you have told me I would switch back to ease your mind. Again, it is a personal choice that you should make.

  • @pingskills
    @pingskills  13 лет назад

    @Detherocable Then it's a matter of brushing the ball a bit more to get more topspin. You can also play your shot with a little more forward momentum and a slightly less vertical action.

    There are a number of ways to do this. If you are in trouble in the rally you might want to use a lob or a chop to stay in the rally. Take a look on our website and you'll see these videos plus more.

    Yes, the sidespin will cause the ball to shoot of to the side, so you need to adjust the angle of your bat to counter this. Take a look on our website for more Table Tennis tips.

    there is nothing more satisfying then getting a ball with huge backspin and then shooting the ball diagonally with tremendous topspin sidespin to the outer side :) sidespin + topspin = the best

  • @pingskills
    @pingskills  13 лет назад

    @andrewizcoolio I don't think there is a best. It is a personal choice and everyone will have their own favourite. There are so many blades available that are all good quality. Like I said, I'm now using the PingSkills Touch but I used to use the Butterfly Primorac OFF- which I really liked.

    Returning a backspin with backspin is referred to as a push which is more of a defensive stroke. Here we are demonstrating how to attack a backspin ball.

    Backspin topspin actually designed for left-handed. I have quick recovery using it. I use it as a low smash backhand topspin against my opponents who use backspin to make sure that he/she hit the ball flying to my side, hit my side of the table, and let it be high enough to end it will my version of smash backhand leftspin (not returned hit).

  • @ravenrose89

    A very clear demonstration of the technique. I have one question though: The backspin balls demonstrated in th video are considered long, so it is possible to have the starting postion below the table. However, if the backspin ball is relatively short, is it still possible to use this technique? I keep hitting the net...

  • @pingskills
    @pingskills  13 лет назад

    @broro100 Personally I think it is better to focus on your technique rather than changing rubber.

  • @pbsmick
    @pbsmick 15 лет назад

    I agree, the more speed and spin you want lower your bat and you will get a stronger stroke. But be careful this does take longer to do and not wise in a fast pasted match or if you enemy (thats what I call them haha) is close to the table. Better used if they are further away from the table. Once you get a good feeling for the stroke then you can do it really fast then do it whenever you feel like it.

    it really depends on the player. If you are learning the back hand loop for the first time you might just want to go down like half a foot, then after you learn that, bring the paddle down to a foot. After you have mastered the basic stroke then you can bring the paddle as far down as you want, as long as it's comfortable for you. for the most part though most people bring the paddle down about a foot because a lot of spin/speed is generated at that distance.

    I've always had trouble with the backhand loop against push, and I've never understood why. My question is this: When playing the BH loop against push, do we need to be slightly farther from the table than when we play the FH loop against push? My thinking is that the BH loop is struck more in front of the body and the FH loop is struck more off to the side, so we have more time to play the FH loop. Therefore I might need to be slightly farther back than my instincts are telling me in BH loop?

  • @albchu
    @albchu 15 лет назад

    i'm confused. recently a 2300 level USATT certified coach recommended a stroke like this vs backspin. at the same time, i watched an 1800 level player use the more compact/forward over the table mechanics to BH loop against underspin. is the former technique "safer" (consistency wise) and the latter technique "more dangerous" (because it's off the bounce?

    Ok, I have a question; I noticed that although the stroke works just fine i.e. the back hand topspin off backspin, the extension of the arm is (to my eye - and I'm no expert you would whoop me every time) is - well, huge, above head height. Now a simple block using the pace you generate would surely arrive back with you before you could recover your position? Any thoughts? Cheers.

    Hey PingSkills, everytime I do this, I always hit it really high so the opponent can smash, or out.

    • @pingskills
      @pingskills  9 лет назад

      +Andy Nguyen-Huynh It sounds like you need to get more topspin on the ball. The topspin will drag the ball down so it doesn't go out. It will also make it harder for your opponent to smash because the topspin will react off their bat. To get more topspin you need a brushing contact. Watch the video again and notice the contact on the ball. Let me know if this helps.

    • @kianglian123

      Okay, so I tried doing the same stroke but I keep "Slapping" the ball.. Do I have to go more vertical?

    • @pingskills
      @pingskills  9 лет назад

      +Andy Nguyen-Huynh You really need to brush the ball. Imagine an insect sitting on the edge of the ball and that you have to knock the insect off without touching the ball very much. That is what you need to do to brush the ball. Does that help?

  • @bla200389
    @bla200389 15 лет назад

    tho this video is about technique..only try to worry about the concept of how to implement topspin.
    (let the ball come to the paddle and just have the paddle angled and lift with a short and fast burst burst of energy)
    -angle depends on the hight of the ball.

    when ever i try this it goes into net (i guess i am not fast enough or moving my racket toward table rather than toward upside), not sure why. i usually return the back spin with more heavier back spin and let my opponent to start top spin attack

    • @pingskills
      @pingskills  9 лет назад +1

      max factor Yeah the most common cause is not playing the stroke vertical enough. You also need to move the bat through fast to get a good brushing action on the ball and generate the topspin. It really is worth persisting and trying to learn this stroke.

    • @pingskills
      @pingskills  8 лет назад

      +Andy Nguyen-Huynh We have a newer version of this video which might help you :)
      If you are hitting the ball into the net you need more of a vertical swing to lift the ball over the net. As you do this though you do need a brushing contact to generate the topspin which will make the ball dip. So next time you practice aim much higher over the net and try to get more topspin. Let me know if that helps. Good luck!
