Most of the times i hit the net but when i manage to pull this off it's 'deadly' for my opponent thanks PingSkills :)
You're welcome. If you are hitting the net most of the time try to aim a little higher to give yourself more margin for error. The key to doing this successfully is brushing the ball on contact so you get more topspin which will drag the ball down from up high so it doesn't go off the end. Keep working on it :)
This is the best TT-tutorial channel in RUclips! Thank you guys for your great videos :D

fantastic coach. .
+RAVINDRA NAYAK Thanks!
I like the fluid motion of your back hands. It's not like some of the pros who seem to strong-arm the racquet and stop its momentum
the pros need to recover in time...this motion is way to long to get ready for a counter
Hi Alois, would the follow through for this shot be considered too long these days? Looks as though the video was made 5 years ago. Did not know if there was a move to shorten swings these days. Thank you!
Great question. I still think this is OK in most circumstances. The game at the very top level is certainly becoming very fast but you also need to generate power at times. If you find that you are taking a big swing and not being able to recover in time then that is the time to look at shortening the swing. This seems like a great question for the ask the coach section of our website. If you get a chance maybe you could ask your questions there? www.pingskills.com/table-tennis-forum/ask
Cheers,
Jeff.
awesome tutorial sir,thanks
+FreeIndia FreeIndia I'm glad you liked it.
Sometimes my opponenet gives a deep push with good amount of backspin and when i try to hit the ball with my back hand loop some times i miss. Do we need to judge the ball first then adjust ourselves and then play th stroke??
Kavya Shah Yes you do need some adjustments depending on the ball. When the ball is deep and has more backspin you do need to make the stroke more vertical. See if you can get someone to feed you some backspin balls using multiball so you can practice the stroke many times in a short period.
HI I'M ALOISROSARIO
😂😂😂
Great video by the way! Very helpful!
::-)
Great tut👍
Excellent demo and thanks for sharing. but you'll agree that this is only good for long balls with back spin. It would be difficult to swing the bat from the low position for balls falling close to the net?
Roman Adar You can use mini version of this stroke, the topspin flick over the table
when would be the best time to use this?
When your opponent pushes the ball long to your backhand that is the time to use this attacking stroke.
Can you make a video of short pimples backhand topspin against backspin? Thank you.
Good suggestion. We'll add it to our list.
thank youu pingskills.
You're welcome.
*Finally another tutorial !!!*
JacK I hope you liked it :)
PingSkills *sure, the video I liked it, but you could make a game of TT: D please do not cost you anything.*
I from indonesian,您讲得非常好,祝你身体健康
hi Alois, just subscribed your channel . Would request you to make a video on top spin generated by Indian tt player Sanil Shetty. He has an awesome forehand top spin which is flat fast and has considerable spin, players like Liam pitchford find it difficult to return .
Thanks for the suggestion. We'll take a look at it and see if we can do something or not.
This is a part of the " Advanced Backhand Topspin" video by PingSkill , right :)? Many thanks to Pingskill
+Dinh Thi Tran You're welcome. This video should be watched first and then followed by the advanced backhand topspin video.
3:44 nice block down the line by the camera
Hey huys love your tutorialss.. they make me better and better at my game but the problem is i use the ragza 7 and joola express 2 rubers but there almost dead what rubbers would you suggest ...plz reply i want i pros suggestion
Ali Azeem They are good rubbers, if you like them just buy some new ones.
Ok, I have a question; I noticed that although the stroke works just fine i.e. the back hand topspin off backspin, the extension of the arm is (to my eye - and I'm no expert you would whoop me every time) is - well, huge, above head height. Now a simple block using the pace you generate would surely arrive back with you before you could recover your position? Any thoughts? Cheers.
It's not a very fast stroke, so he has enough time to get back in position. Also, he generates a lot of topspin, so the ball is harder to attack faster (with the backhand, I mean).
Hi could you give me some advice. I am looking to buy some new rubbers but i am unsure on what to get. I have been using tenergy 05 and tenergy 05fx rubbers but now they are becoming dead i want to upgrade. I like to play an attacking game where i am fast and spinny. What would you reccomend me getting? Thanks for the help guys :)
Joshua Powell Tenergy is a very good rubber. If you liked it then I'd stick with it and buy the same rubbers again.
Maybe he could use Tenergy on the backhand side and a "Chinese" tacky rubber on the forehand side, like the top Chinese players (and recently Ovtcharov). I think it's an option worth considering.
Is this only vs backspin? Or can you perform the same stroke with less lifting of the ball? Such as the amount of low you need to go and also the end form? Is this the same with the Forehand vs backspin video?
iJaymeZ1 The shots are very similar if there is backspin or if it is against a block with a little bit of topspin. The difference is that against a backspin ball you need your stroke to be more vertical to counter the backspin. We have videos on these strokes against a block. You can find them here on RUclips or on the PingSkills website.
Thanks Jeff.
Werner Schlager has a really good backhand topspin against backspin. He is the only top player I have seen using his backhand against choppers.
Yes he has an amazing backhand!
hello coach
i am wondering which shoe you wore in this lesson
Just some runners but take a look at this video for some better advice on which type of shoes are good for table tennis: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/choosing-equipment/table-tennis-shoes
I have to practice this more.
Good luck!
You are like sultan of table tennis
Thanks :)
I watched this the day before my school tournament and I hope this works because my backhand is slow and dead
Jana Blake same lol
"Bend your knees so that you are getting down nice and low" :P
What serve can I do to force the player to return long to my backhand so I can straight away backhand tops
You can't force the player to make a specific return but with good variation of your serve you are more likely to get a long ball. Try mixing up your serves by adding different amounts of spin, different placement, and different speeds. Try this and let me know the results. Good luck!
I'm French and I don't very handerstand when you speaked but I handerstand your demonstation. Thank you your vidéo was very good!!!
+Leo Bregoin Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice
coach i have a question how to check which side of the bat is backhand side and which side of the bat is forehand side
+Enes Pasha You can use either side for the backhand or forehand. A lot of players use the exact same rubber on each side.
Real good
Hey coach , I have two donic bluefire rubbers but sometimes i feel as if I am generating all the spin which can be painful. Is this how they all are or am I doing something wrong please I need a response quick because I want to beat the best player in my country
Hi Jana,
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you are generating all the spin. Is this for a particular stroke?
I mean that when I use that racket I have to do more to get the type of spin that I need in both strokes and services
As long as the rubber is still grippy it should be OK. The key to getting a lot of spin is a fast brushing contact so you do need to get that right.
Thanks, I tried what you said at my training and I got some killer topspin and sidespin
Well done!
Thanks coach
You're welcome.
The first piece of advice concerning body position, in order to direct the ball where you want it, assumes that the opponent is going to play their shot straight at you.
Does it not?
+Rog5446 Yes, if the ball is going wider you need to move into position first.
what if the ball is coming at a higher speed at your backhand with some backspin, especially when you don't get enough time to react and position yourself to brush the ball completely to get enough topspin?? i actually get late to play this shot most of the time and i know one way is to pivot and play forehand or push but push sometimes rises the ball high and also very slow for the opponent to attack and forehand is not consistent enough. Any solution??
Hi Mayank,
One thing is to watch the ball really closely, as this will help you get into position earlier. If you are very late on it then I think it becomes a risky shot so you may be better off making a push as you mentioned you sometimes do. If you do go for a push then make sure it's a very deliberate push and that you try to place it well and aren't just trying to get it back on the table. If you can get a lot of backspin and place it well it will be hard for your opponent.
PingSkills thanks guru (coach) 😉
Is this kind of what would be considered a backhand loop?
MrMagicpantz200 Yes this can also be called a backhand loop.
I'm having trouble setting the correct bat angle so most of my forehand drive ends in the net. Please help me out.
Try to start lower and finish higher with your stroke. Also ensure you get a brushing contact on the ball to generate the topspin. Let me know if this helps.
@@pingskills Thanks! I will surely try that out and will notify you about my progress
Respected Coach, In most of the cases opponent try to keep back spin close to net (like it bounce twice on table), flick is not an easiest skill to learn in months time or so, I am preparing for an open tournament in oct16 and having intermediate play level with good back hand, instead of just pushing or returning with backspin can you please advise some other option to make this return difficult for opponent. Regards,Dinesh Awtaney India
Hi Dinesh,
Off a short push you really only have 3 options, push the ball back short, push the ball back long, or flick the ball. As you mention the flick is not the easiest shot to learn. If you aren't confident in the flick at the tournament then I'd recommend trying the short push quite often and then using the long push as a surprise return. When pushing long try to generate a lot of backspin to make it hard for your opponent. Good luck at the tournament!
Thank you so much !
You're welcome :)
at what level shall we hit the ball for better topspin?
The level is not really important in terms of the topspin. However if you take the ball closer to the table you give your opponent less time to react, but also you have less time to make the stroke.
If you are just starting out, try to hit the ball at the top of the bounce. Then you can experiment and see what works for you against different opponents.
Repetition breeds mastery.
With such a huge swing, how can you recover for the next shot?
+Илья Минкин The finish position is not too far from a neutral position. The real key to getting ready for the next shot is to watch the ball really well.
Ok, gotta try finish higher next time -- maybe it will help me generate more power
+Илья Минкин Give it a go and let me know if it works well.
My backhand topspin vs heavy backspin is good but when there is less or no backspin it's always going off the side... I did move more forwards though
It's good that you can play this well against heavy backspin as that is often the harder stroke. With less backspin make sure you are still brushing the ball but come over the top of the ball some more by angling your bat down. Good luck!
Yes Zazen Forever, that follow through is way much longer than the more modern Elite strokes. I have been unhappy with Australian coaching techniques since the early eighties and beyond and here we are in 2022 and Australian playing style still hasn't evolved. I said it then and i'm saying it now our longer strokes get smashed against the shorter sharp strokes that started to appear in world standard from eighties and beyond. Sadly Australia just doesn't have the resources or skills to compete at the professional level and this is reflected in our coaching as well. These older techniques have been passed down through the generations here so on it goes again. Sad reality.
What rubber you used
I am using Xiom Vega Pro at the moment but there are lots of good choices and the right rubber for an individual really depends on their level and their personal preferences. Take a look at this video for some more information - www.pingskills.com/tutorials/choosing-equipment/choosing-a-table-tennis-bat
when to hit? highest pick point or little after
The highest point is a good starting point. Once you are confident you can even start to take the ball earlier as it is on the rise. This is a more difficult shot but will also give your opponent less time to react.
thanks coach
.you can't afford
such a long action in the game......it will come back and you will not be able to come back to your original stance
I ve a problem when I do this hit the ball just go out of the table or it does not go through the net
It is a tough shot to play. The biggest problem is usually not brushing the ball enough. If you have a lot of speed but hit the ball it will fly off the end of the table. So you need bat speed but you must also just brush the ball. Let me know if this helps.
I have a feeling that this is one of the most difficult shots (if not the most) in table tennis. Am I right?
+Bledi Preza I probably agree, though there are some players who pick this stroke up easily and find it very natural. The real key though is to practice it a lot. Most people spend more time working on their forehands and less on their backhand. If you can try to spend an even amount of practice time on both.
In my opinion, backhand counterlooping is more difficult than looping against backspin since you have to contact the ball with a very closed bat angle and the ball often slips or hits the edge. This is why I mostly backhand punch against fast topspins.
if penhold grip?how can do that?
Google "PingSkills Penhold Techniques" and watch that video to see how to do the reverse backhand with the penhold grip.
Can you defeat ma long
haha, unfortunately not :)
What gonna do if the ball down close the net?
Hi there, Have you heard about NO BRAND 999 rubber? First of all Congrats for all your videos I have seen so far. All of them are REALLY GREAT. I play really close to the table, I am 6.3 tall and dont have a good drive (top spin), it is too difficult for me to bent and do the proper movement, I am a bit too slow too. therefore from what I have read TENERGY05 seems it would be good rubber for me, but before I spend a lot of money on it, I would like your guidance... Of course I know it depends on my skills and type of game...
My style of game is much more defensive and forcing the opponent to make errors, i love playing BACKSPIN and more BACKSPIN and counter attack on the opponents attack with my very hard and dry straight attack. :D
I am not on the professional level, but play quite well, I am used play with old chinese hard and very tacky rubbers like Firenship... but now I want to change and try THE SPINNIEST RUBBER POSSIBLE... VERY VERY SPINNY rubbers, I am crazy reading all about....
there are sooooo many videos with comments, some seems to be very commercial to me trying to sell their brand, I trust much more on you guys from PING SKILLS. What are the rubbers you recommend me the most, not too fast but THE MOST SPIN. I have read a lot good about theses ones: Tenergy05... DHS Hurricane 3 NEO... Andro Power Grip.. Ahhh I play with only one side of the racket.... I don care about price, of course it if is more durable better... I have got a very good sidespin serve, but will follow your guidance to improve it. Thanks SOOO MUCH IN ADVANCE.
Hi Sidney,
We aren't really equipment experts. As long as you have a decent rubber the biggest difference will be your training!
Tenergy 05 is an excellent rubber but it's more for attackers. If you are a defensive player then Friendship is probably a reasonable choice.
If you like you can ask this question using the ask the coach section of the PingSkills website and we can open it up to other readers to give their feedback.
Even if you are tall you can still get into a good position. There have been lots of really good tall table tennis players. Take a look at this video and see if it helps - www.pingskills.com/table-tennis/strokes-and-technique/basic-stance/
Good luck with your table tennis!
Hi Elois, I have just added my questions to the site. Thank you SOOOOOO much for your great support. You, Jeff and PingSkills.com ROCK :D
You're welcome Sidney. Thanks for your support :)
Sir,This topspin is not elegant like the pro players like Ma long and Fan Zhendong .They do a much more elegant and shorter which makes them more consistent. Can you publish a more elegant of the backhand topspin.
Hey!,Please do not take it as a criticism of Pingskills. It is simply awesome.I am just asking if there is a better way of executing the backhand topspin.
Take a look at this one: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/intermediate-strokes/backhand-topspin-against-block
Thanks sir
I do pretty ok with my backhand against backspin but oh god I can't do the same with my forehand
really? I find the forehand much easier! Although my poor footwork doesn't usually give me enough time to use it LOL.
Chris Thomas I feel you . keep enjoying ping pong
Yes, good advice. Balance is very important in table tennis.
How to serve like Vladimir Samsonov
It’s hard but I got it
The arm shouldn’t go to the side that much, no time for recovery
You lot are mad at table tennis
Kareem Myers Better than just being mad I guess :)
using too much hand and arm
again and again and again
