    I have a toro 520h as well and 42 inch rear discharge deck as well, what belt sizes did you use for the deck and the deck to tractor belt, I assume they are 2 different size belts? Will tractor supply huskee belts work?

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  Год назад +2

      The belt I replaced on the deck is P/N: 106125 (1/2" x 89" long). The PTO to the deck is a different belt. I found information ranging from 98 to 104 plus long belts on the mule drive, but have not replaced it on this unit. You have some flexibility here from the spring adjustment. Yes, different brands of belts will work fine. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    Excellent video, seen this before but didn't pay enough attention. I have an auto 12 with 42 in rear discharge. Been trying to get my 520h going
    I got this about a year ago, just now getting it in shape to work. I got the brake fixed, and parking brake adjusted according to specs. Also changed the fluids and put ag tires on rear . Replaced cam plate on hydraulics and it runs like top now. Had a grader blade on the rear sleeve hitch and pulls no problem. Finally did some work on 48" side discharge deck and ended up swapping a spindle and putting new bearings in all 3.... I can't seem to get height set right. It wants to cut too low
    Any suggestions on how to set deck height I got the deck manual for 78360 but I can't seem to get this deck height adjusted right

      Thanks! Sounds like quite the project. I am happy you are keeping Wheel Horse history alive! The deck should ride on the rear adjustable wheels with the lift in the full down position. Next adjust the linkage on the deck so the front of the deck is level. The deck rides on the rear wheels and the front hangs on the lift. None of the other wheels should be touching the ground at this point. The rest of the wheels should be raised slightly above the ground. Their only purpose is to prevent scalping the ground on uneven terrain. Thanks for watching and happy wheel horsing! 👍😁

    Hey OP, what's your opinion of the RD VS the SD decks? I was just given a 520H for free by a friend, and I've removed the WAY too heavy and difficult to work with 60" SD deck and want to get a smaller deck, most likely a 42". I've been asking online about the subject and some love the RD, others don't. Some say the RD will cause problems for the hydrostat fan on a 520H. Others say the RD is not good in high grass?

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  3 года назад +2

      Hi! I favor your same opinion. This tractor was equipped with a 60" side discharge deck since it was new. They are great for large open areas, but the deck is very cumbersome to handle and maintenance. It's heavy! I think rear discharge decks are great. They take high grass, cut it down, and lay it on the same cut path. It looks nice, consistent, and you can mow around things on both the right or the left. The only disadvantage is they do make the rear of your tractor a little grassy / dirty. I do not think it will cause you any problems. Check your rear end / hydro pump area occasionally and blow out the fins. I cleaned this one and it had grass in the fins from operating the side discharge deck. It blows around it anyways. Once you try a smaller side discharge you won't want to go back. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

      @@FlatThunder Cool. I think I'll go with the RD deck then. It'll keep the grass out of my womans flower beds. I've mainly mowed her yard area weekly with a RD push mower and my three acres of horse pasture that is bumpy, hilly, has a lot of obstacles to maneuver around with a Craftsman 42" rider, so the grass and weeds in the pasture get a foot tall sometimes before I get around to mowing it. The 60" deck is indeed a beast. So far, I haven't been able to find the OEM specs on it or its weight. According to one Wheelhorse chart I saw, the 36" deck weighs 100 lbs, and for each 6" increase in size, the weight goes up 30 lbs. So the 60" should weigh around 220 lbs. But according to a couple of members of the FB WheelHorse forum, it's more like 320!

      @@dkeith45 you will have to watch the trailing wheels and the rear tire interface. Mine come very close when backing up on unlevel terrain. I believe the deck is around the 300 lb mark easily. You will like the rear discharge! Cheers

      @@FlatThunder i have used all the decks you mentioned -- RD leaves nice look - two tips for RD users - attach a 2-3 inch rubber flap to back lip of mower deck that deflects the grass down -- and then at end of each cut use leaf blower to clean the tranny fins - the SD is great --but although we are all expected to use the safety chute on end of deck for safety reasons, you will get wider more distant dispersal of grass without the safety chute attached - the 60 inch is a monster for big flat areas but don't plan on taking it on and off frequently because so awkward -- but that invites neglect -- so grass will accumulate and risk rot and bad cutting efficiency -lastly, the best way to determine the proper PTO belt slack is about 1 inch of slack when you pull on the belt

      I believe the deck should be adjusted so it is relatively level. The other conditions are hard to gage without seeing the exact scenario. Maybe you are buying too long of a belt and or not providing enough tension? Thanks for watching and best is luck on the repair! 👍😁

    Maybe some of the best plain spoken, sensible translation of technical knowledge to user application I think I've ever heard also I think I would have pressure washed and degreased the deck before installing the new belt and doin' the Lock'nLube! Maybe enlighten me as to why you chose to install the belt first and then degrease, power wash? Yeah! Once she heats up that grease will start to flow into all the right spots.
    Can't get over how heavy duty the snow blade arm set up is. I'm definitely interested in a set up like that but not sure I'll find that exact set u under a toadstool any time soon but at least I'll know what to look for and that's half the battle.
    Mule drive and PTO is well explained and good video with some not too weird music. There is some weird music and a lot of videos.
    That 520 is a tank! It looks like you're going into shock & awe mode with them dandelions not standing a chance against that well serviced machine.
    Thanks for the great video
    enjoyed it much!

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  2 года назад

      The lever / arm around the pto clutch disconnects and swings out away from the step pulley. Relieve belt tension using the knob on the front of the tractor, slip the belt over the step pulley, reinstall the engagement arm, tension belt and you should be good to go! Thanks for watching 👍😁
