    these shop guys originate from the tiny city of koothoor in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. Hence the name koothoorar for the shop. The briyani is typical to the home cooked briyani from that region and hence may seem different to what you may find in most other shops. Right up to 1980s there were many indian muslim shops that served similar type of cuisine. However the cooks in most of the shops retired back to India. This family stayed put and is one of the few that still preserves that kind of cuisine in Singapore

    Wat I liked about Greg video was his eyeball expression of the foods description, more than I can chew my briyani mutton elsewhere further down the road in Little India , most briyani seller likes to pile tons of basmatic rice , the mutton & chicken were cooked to perfection by this Vendor, you can see e meat rubbing off the bone means one thing . Long slow stewing ... a process of patience cooking 🙌🏼. How good does It taste is based on Greg's facial expression.

    I think you don't know more about beryani and it's history. Go to Seetoh to know more about it. Its a Muslim food and a national food of Pakistan.It was introduced by the Muslim Turks when they rule India for more than 100 years introducing food ranging from tandoori, kebab etc which genuinely known as Muglai food. India is originally a vegetarian nation. With the arrival of the Moguls India it has absorbed the food culture and and became part of Indian food. The Indian Muslim even introduced Mee goreng, Indian rojak, Mee siam etc in Singapore ,that you don't find in India, Pakistan and even in Bangladesh.Seetoh had mentioned in one of his write up about this intelligent Indian Muslim for introducing such original unique food culture in South East Asia. But I must be fair to mention that you deliver it professionally and you have a bright future and I will watch your program.👍👍👍👍

    • @GregoryLeow
      @GregoryLeow  4 года назад

      Actually I’ve already discussed it in my other vlogs that the local Malay Muslim style of biryani is similar to nasi minyak, which is why “biryani” means different things to diff people and especially surprising for people from India who live here. People from India don’t think that what we have in singapore is authentic but not to many Malays here. Likely people from Iran (modern day Persia and arguably the birthplace of biryani) don’t think biryani in India is “authentic” either lol. But i speculate. Nevertheless, it is fascinating how a dish evolves as it travels through regions and it questions the idea of authenticity. I’ll link my original explanation in the video description about the differences between street side and restaurant style dim biryanis in singapore. Thanks for your comments 😊

      Sort of. Lavender mrt is the nearest but it’s a 5-10 min walk to the food centre.

    • @braintransplantdonor
      @braintransplantdonor 5 лет назад +2

      Depends on where you're planning to stay, because quite often SBS buses go right past many hawker centres/coffee shops that aren't close to MRT stations. I just had a couple of weeks eating my way round Singapore and quite often the bus was the easier option for me from my hotel. The other thing is that the bus usually has better views than the MRT! If you go to Singapore often, it's probably a good idea to buy an EZ Link card ($10 or $12) from a MRT ticket office or a 7-11 store and keep it topped up. This time I used about $50 for 13 days using public transport for between 8 and 12 journeys a day. There is a SBS transit app you can download, but I used google maps with directions and it didn't let me down once.

    I like mutton biryani but this is nothing special. I have eaten better eg the Jalan Kayu store and one at AMK. And price is too expensive at $8.50 per plate. Their business is very very good and can always lower the prices.
