    Interviewer: Edward Albert

Edward Albert and his father Eddie Albert sat down to give an interview about the Martin guitar, Woody Guthrie had given to Eddie Albert in 1940 for all of the kindness that Eddie Albert showed to Woody and his family during their struggles in the late 1930s after arriving in California. The Interview took on its own life as the formalities fell away and Eddie and Edward both just fell into conversation and reminiscent stories.
This guitar was owned and used by Woody to write many songs that became folk music history. The guitar still bares Woody's name as he carved it onto the body as well as "This machine kills fascists". It was a great treat to hold this guitar as well as examine it.
Edward Albert, like his father, was also a very kind and gracious person. It was a pleasure knowing him for that brief time before his passing. I thought I would share this entire exchange between father and son because it was such a natural and organic afternoon in the pacific palisades... Enjoy all 4 parts!!

Eddie Albert was a Navy Veteran from WWII. He helped save a lot of men who were in the water, and he was decorated for his action. He got the Bronze Star for rescuing 47 Marines and supervising the rescue of 30 more. A true American Hero.

He had what so few do today. Grace, class and true humility. To this very day Green Acres remains one of the best broadly satirical TV shows ever produced. Working with Ms Gabor was a match made in heaven.

In the 5 years since this wonderful interview was posted here, this is the first I've come across this absolute gem! I've always enjoyed Eddie Albert's screen talents, from early film work on through TV successes. But as I grew older, also admired his humanitarian causes, and his legacy to try to help his fellow man. As I see Albert here with son Jr, sadly other Hollywood names come to mind, like Crosby, Crawford, and O'Neal, and am reminded as to their reported dysfunctional family dynamics. Diametrically, I see the beauty of this father and son, and Edward's devotion to his dad's well-being and comfort. I remember sadly reading Eddie's obits at the time of his passing, but equally my mind goes to my memory the year after that time, and reading son Edward's tragic death from cancer, and thinking, "What a devoted, devoted son, to live with and care for his ailing father those final years, as he himself was likely ill himself. I have visited Eddie Albert's gravesite many times, in respect to the man. -This interview is priceless, and a reminder to preserve the Albert family legacy, forever. ~Thank you so much for posting. God rest them, all.

Also in this interview I learned Edward Albert lived with Rita Coolidge, and the story he told of his time with her and her sister Priscilla, and that she was married to legendary musician Booker T. Jones. And was so saddened to read Priscilla was killed decades later by her second husband in fit of rage in 2014, galvanizing how precious life is. ~RIP all.

Eddie Albert during WW2, was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for his actions during the invasion of Tarawa in November 1943, when, as the pilot of a Coast Guard landing craft, he rescued 47 Marines who were stranded offshore (and supervised the rescue of 30 others), while under heavy enemy machine-gun fire.

There are no more actors with the grace, humility, class and morality of Eddie Albert and so many other great actors that are no longer with us. They are part of that great generation from humble beginnings that loved their country. Faught to defend it willing to sacrifice themselves for it. Knew what hard work could accomplish but were not so greedy and selfish that they looked down on people of lessor means but would offer a helping hand and guidance to lift themselves up to take advantage of what our great country has to offer to one who is willing to go after it.

A wonderful visit with the two Alberts. Sad however, even to see the beginning of alzheimer's creeping up on Eddie senior. At least at this time, he was 95 years old, and had lived an amazingly full and happy life. He ultimately lived to be 99 years old, which is not too bad, as things go. His son, Eddie jr. died a year after his father, from lung cancer. Such a shame.

Hi. I'm from Russia, but I've also seen a few Eddie albert movies. I watched green Acres as a kid and I still love these characters and the song from there. I'm glad Eddie lived such a long life! It's the first time I've seen him at that age, and it's the first time I've seen his son. It's a pity that both of them are gone, especially that their son died so early! When I read that he died a year after his father died, I thought that maybe he got cancer because he gave everything he could to help his elderly, sick father! Thank You for posting this video! The memory of a talented actor who gives a smile must be alive!

Sad and yet beautiful. Eddie Albert always seemed younger than his age. Watching him on the hit TV series, "Green Acres", one would probably never guess Eddie had turned 60 at the very start of that long-running program. What is truly tragic is that his son here spent his every free moment with his dad near the end of Eddie's life, but died at an untimely age before his father passed away.
Eddie Albert was an extremely multi-talented man who, throughout his long life, stood up for all that was decent and right. For example, he was into ecology long before most people even knew what that was. When actor Hank Patterson (Fred Ziffel) was about to be dismissed from the show be because his deafness was causing problems with filming, it was Albert who demanded he stay and worked with other cast and crew members to devise ways of helping Patterson know when to say his lines. He was that kind of a guy. 👏👏👏👏👏

My dad's generation like Eddie Albert was about making America great. As they got older they donated their money or time to helping people make something out of their lives. They also donated to hospitals and medical progress. My generation , the boomer gen. got too involved with saving the environment and ecology etc.all donation money went to save the environment , de-population etc... Now in 2020 opportunities are gone and our medicals schools suck,, thus hospitals can not keep up or know what to do etc.. And our political leaders are toast !
