“I’ve got maybe 70 or 80 years here.” Well, Eddie had 99 years here! God bless him. He was a great man and the star of my all time favorite show.

Not only was Eddie ahead of his time on the environment, but he was also on eating healthy. People today really need to have role models like Eddie Albert.

Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor were so perfect in Green Acres. Could there be a more perfect show?

They sure were- and they reaped what they had sowed via their son Edward taking care of his father the last part of his life! Sadly, while Eddie's mind got decimated via the Alzheimer's Disease, his body stayed incredibly strong to the point that he was able to play a game of wheelchair basketball with his granddaughter at age 99 just three days before his death. Of course, what's also tragic is that his caregiving son died of lung cancer a year later at age 55. BTW, Eddie Albert's original surname was Heimberger [which meant 'home mountain person' in German] but he changed it in adulthood because he 'got tired of being called 'Eddie HAMBURGER' !

@@wardarcade7452 Hi. Thank you for your reply. I found your story very interesting. So nice that this family is being remembered.

@@MusicloverLiz Thanks for yours! I've got more stories. One is that even though the Albert parents insisted on respect, they always LISTENED to what their son had to say from an early age instead of dismissing him or being patronizing to him. Shortly after they adopted their daughter Maria Carmen from a Spanish orphanage when she was about four , Eddie started to complain about her loud crying but then bowed to his young son's wisdom when he pointed out that his new sister had had to be heard over 200 other orphans to be fed in her former abode!

I finally went to visit their graves when I was out in Los Angeles back in October. (I also went to visit Merv Griffin's grave as well.) I made this vow back in 1996 that I was going to do this, and I did. I wanted to pay my respects to these three wonderful people who were a part of my life.
I not only went see Eva's grave, I attended weekend Mass at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills (where Eva's and Merv Griffin's funerals were at, I also saw her house as well. My brother and I were going down Sunset Blvd. to see Michael Jackson's house, but we missed the turn to the street that it was on. I then saw Delfern Drive, the street that she lived on, and we stopped right in front of her house. My brother even took a picture of me right in front of the house. She lived right off of Sunset Blvd. And she spent the last twenty years of her life in that house. Some wealthy couple bought the house a year after she died. But now, I heard it's being sold again.
But anyway, it was a wonderful experience. Just like every year when Elvis fans flock to Graceland to see his grave, I flocked to Los Angeles to see Eva Gabor's grave. I only wish that I could have gone to the funeral. As her biggest fan, I should have been there. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money to go out there at the time.

Eddie Albert was such a nice and wonderful man and person, how Eva Gabor spoke of him and his family. You can tell he was such a caring and good husband and father. He loved life, probably influenced many because of his love.

Green Acres was such a wonderful show and brought so much laughter into my challenging childhood years. My roommate and I would also run the reruns during our college years and joke about Whitewater having some parallels to Hooterville. Presently, when I need a laugh (and who doesn't), I watch the old shows on the Internet. Eva and Eddie are the absolute best and were so far ahead of their time! Hooterville is such a fun place to revisit! May God bless Eva and Eddie.

Eddie Albert was a real-life Oliver Douglas. Not only did he grow his own vegetables, he spoke out on the environment as well. In fact his birthday was on Earth Day, which is April 22.

I always noticed (the pair of them), too. I looked for them in "Return to Green Acres" when it came out, but they weren't in it. They must have gone by the wayside in the 20 years that had passed

davidpar2 : Hm. I think they were in RTGR, but not a whole lot. I remember Haney was more sinister and almost creepy than in the old show. RTGR was pretty bad, so I'm not in any hurry to watch it again. There is a YT video of Eddie and Eva on an old game show in the 60s and they seemed like they had a great friendship. They were cutting up and smiling a lot. I don't know about Eva, but I have done a bit of reading and YT watching about Eddie. He sounds like he was a pretty cool and nice guy. He had one of the first large scale organic farms in CA, so he really was a farmer. He also was a WWII hero.

Very sadly, this Monday, July 4, marks the 16th anniversary of the death of my beloved idol, Eva Gabor. There will never be another one like her.
If she were alive today, she'd be shocked an horrified at the way that television is today: paternity and lie detector tests, these junky reality shows, "Who's My Baby's Daddy?', fights on the Jerry Springer show, cursing, and so forth.
Sixteen years later, I still miss you Eva dahling! Look down on Zsa Zsa for me. She's very sick and frail.
