Has anyone ever noticed, that patience in the Watchtower only works in one direction? Just imagine if all the rules they have were subject to the same standards.
"Oh yes, brother elder, I was going to shave today, especially since I have a talk to give, but my razor simply didn't make it to my face. Don't be a baby, now. There's an appointed time for everything. Have patience, and I'm sure I'll be able to find the time to shave for my next part a month from now or so."
But your faithful grandmother dies, and they tell you to "be patient, wait on Jehovah."
Your mother dies and they tell you to "be patient."
You turn 90, your back aches something fierce, and your latest physical didn't turn out all that promising, and they tell you to "be patient."
But if you walk up on stage unshaven, the hand of god might come down and smite you for being an ungrateful goat.

I remember that the speakers at the Society’s assemblies used to be orators by comparison to who are allowed on the platform nowadays. They knew how to speak publicly. Of course, in the Theocratic School we used to be constantly reminded of “the Three P’s”: Pitch, power and pace. Then, all of a sudden, in the late nineties, I began noticing a marked change. Around that time, the Society started emphasizing “conversational delivery”. Really, it’s just speaking in a monotone. I never was able to make that adjustment myself. It just went against the grain. When I gave talks in the Theocratic School, I continued following the previous instructions. Even when I would read at the Congregation Book Study, I did so as though I were delivering discourses. Of course, I was always something of a throwback as a witness in that, for instance, I understood that when I would give talks or read, that was supposed to be part of my responsibility as a teacher in the congregation. (Admittedly, that was a pre-1972 attitude fostered by the Society, meaning it was from before the Society brought back the “elder” arrangement.) Just the same, however, the change to monotone delivery was a disaster in my book. I recall thinking: “How are we supposed to learn anything if the speakers don’t emphasize the key points they’re trying to make, but, rather, blend those in with everything else?” When the Society changed the format of “Watchtower” Study articles several years ago, I realized that it’s all part of an infantilization campaign from headquarters intended to lull Jehovah’s witnesses to mental drowsiness. Ron DeSantis, with all his talk of combating wakefulness, could ask the Governing Body for advice on how to impose that on Floridians!

@@thomash.schwed3662 yeah I never got the monotone, slow and deliberate thing either. I never viewed that as "conversational" because that's not how I carried a conversation. I tried to speak in my natural way and add the Ps in to try and highlight whatever point I was trying to make. The JW cadence was something I saw at first in assemblies and conventions and eventually in the congregations. I always tuned those speakers right out. Having ADHD made it all the worse. They were slow and boring and my brain was going a mile a minute. I would last five minutes tops and then it was just random thoughts for the next half hour. I never got anything out of speakers like that

Yes the religion is crazy but you don't just bash them for the sake of it, you do give fair comments. There's no bitterness there. I understand why some would be bitter but I also think it can really damage your life after the witnesses if you can't. Anyway... good video again. Thanks

My dad gave his life to the organisation, to the point where he was so busy being an elder he hardly had time for us. In the last year of his life, the congregation turned against him because of me not being a JW anymore. They spread rumours about us and forced him out. He died suddenly. His funeral was all about his acts of service and barely about him...

You ended that expose on a real downer. It's a tragedy of our times, but there is always a way out. I think the way out is going to occur within the fellowships. Phone numbers exchanged, clandestine underground meetings between like-minded people, the courage to go through the motions and outwardly make all the right signals without being detected, until it's time to cut loose completely. They won't have to fear the tyranny of the elders' passively aggressive wrath by threat of being disfellowshipped, because they will be among friends. They will need to beware, though, not to be seduced by the idea of forming another cult

In the meantime, “be patient” and “enjoy the journey”. That’s what I’m getting from these talks and videos.

So I've been learning Hebrew (after the JWs I don't want anyone telling me what the Bible actually says). When it says you shall not take the Lord's name in vain it doesn't have anything to do with cussing. It means you better not say, "we represent God", "come in God's name" or act like you speak for God. Especially if you are wrong. So all the wars fought "In the name of God" that were not? Those people will answer to a Holy God someday. I wouldn't want to be a member of the governing body of JWs on judgment day. Even the elders will face a much heavier punishment, for teachers are held to a higher standard. I pray they all wake up before its too late. I was 4th generation and my dad's an elder. I pray for my whole family all the time.
