Season 8 of South Park began in 2004 with one of the most beloved episodes in the series' entire history: Good Times with Weapons. On its face, it’s easy to see why people love this episode. The overt, stylized anime parody was something very unique for the show at the time. But I think beyond the obvious stylistic influence, Good Times with Weapons is an early masterpiece in what I think is the real golden age for South Park, at least in my opinion. So today I wanna dive deep into Good Times with Weapons and explain exactly why this is a perfect South park story.

I never thought much about south park lore, but its good to now look back on it and delve into this great writing, thanks for doing a great job of it!
Best
Episode
Ever
Cartman turning Kyle into a chicken after asking him for his powers back will always be my favorite moment
I laughed way too hard at that part😂 And even tho I saw it coming, I died when Kenny hit Butters in the eye. I actually just watched this episode for the first time the other day so this video is perfectly timed!
Heh, Heh, Heh, Heh I turned you into a chicken 😂
Fr
The angry chicken yelling "GAWD DAMMIT CARTMAN" was the funniest visual 😂
That had me cracking up when I first saw it.
Imagine a stick of truth or fractured but whole style of game but with Ninja powers now
Hold up let him Cook
Holy shit that would be GOLD
Fantasy RPG, Superhero Tactics, Fantasy Action and maybe JRPG?
Well we got Snow day coming out so it shows they’re still interested in making games.
Said this for years. Should’ve been the third game in the new trilogy after Fractured But Whole
I think one part that you didn't bring up always makes me absolutely love it is with chef. With him being in the anime style it means two things 1 The boys see him worthy enough to be in their game unlike with butters initially, 2 because we do a match cut it shows that chef also views them in the anime style meaning he's 100% down for their game
My favorite part is when the bystander driver just looks at the group of kids play fighting in a dingy alley, so glad you mentioned it.
My favorite has to be the whole Let’s Fighting Love sequence
Professor Chaos stomping out of his house to go to war with the boys will forever be my favorite South Park scene.
Let's fightning love is also one of the BEST South park songs! Perfect for the episode😂😂😂😂😂
In the German version to is sung by Frank Schindel. The guy who sang a lot of the German anime and songs.
PROTECT MY BALLS!!!
I honestly never knew the Japanese Parts of the song were actual words. Until I saw a Japanese Reaction to the song.
😂
This song is so iconic that it was Tweek and Craig’s ultimate attack in TFBW
I seriously remember being a little kid obsessed with Naruto when this episode came out and this episode might’ve been one of my favorite pieces of media to ever come out ❤
When I was around 9-10 (yes I was too young to be watching Soth Park) my brother showed me this pirating site where you could watch every episode of South Park
But I only ever watched “Good Times with Weapons” and “Make Love not Warcraft” over and over and over.
I just loved when shows had anime/video game episodes
I was the exact same dude, those same two episodes.
Was it AllSp? I was the same age watching South Park back in the day lol. Had the old computer with no headphones and would watch episodes all day with the speakers on while my parents are trying to watch TV and such in our basement. (Yes I was a shit head)
@@masoncook103YES aaaah the memories
Im pretty sure it gave my moms computer a virus but it was WORTH IT
Why would anybody of pirated it “back in the day” every episode was free on the Comedy Central website, and free on the South Park website before that
I just really wish we see more South Park characters in this anime style, like Timmy, Tweek, The Goth kids, and Wendy Testaburger.
I read somewhere that one of the creators actually speaks fluent Japanese so the "Let's Fighting Love" theme song was written with full awareness of mocking the usual tropes with anime theme songs 😂
ive seen a few translations, but this seems the best. copied from the internets
"Subarashii, chin chin mono Kintama no kami aru Sore no oto, sarubobo? Iie! Ninja ga, imasu!"
I have a wonderful cock, and hair on my testicles. What's that sound, a monkey's pussy? No! It's a ninja!
"Hey hey let's go!, kenka suru Taisetsu na mono, protect my balls Boku ga warui, so let's fighting Let's fighting love Let's fighting love"
Hey Hey Let's Go! Let's fight It's important that I protect my balls I'm bad so let's fighting Let's fighting love ...Let's fighting love ...
"Kono uta, chotto, baka Wake ga wakaranai Eigo ga, mechakucha Daijōbu, we do it all the time"
This song is a little stupid, and incomprehensible. The English is messed up, It's okay, we do it all the time
"Hey hey let's go!, kenka suru Taisetsu na mono, protect my balls Boku ga warui, so let's fighting Let's fighting love Let's fighting love"
Hey Hey Let's Go! Let's fight It's important that I protect my balls, I'm bad so let's fighting Let's fighting love ...Let's fighting love ...
Yeah trey speaks it fluently which is why whenever actual Japanese is used in the show trey is doing it and it’s almost always accurate
One of Trey’s former wives was Japanese too
And it's why the Mongolians in 'Child Abduction is Not Funny' are speaking Japanese
They just talk about cock and balls
That transition from make-believe to real life was so relatable when I saw this as a kid. Every kid has been playing with their friends when one friend gets hurt and you all feel that "OH SHIT" in your gut.
100% When I was a kid me and a bunch of neighborhood kids were playing tag around the local church, when the little brother of my friend Tony jumped off a short roof of a garage to avoid getting tagged and nearly bit his tongue off when he landed while yelling out and having his tongue out during the landing. It was the biggest "OH SHIT" moment of my young life.
(he ended up being OK, but they had to rush him to the hospital and put him in surgery to reattach the halves of his tongue that got bit, and then his little bro couldn't play with us anymore and like a year later, Tony moved away after being grounded for what seemed like forever because he wasn't watching out enough for his brother during that whole incident)
I think its so funny that Tolkien is just Tolkien now, like no questions asked at all
“Now”? What do you mean? He’s always been Tolkien???
What did you think his name was??
As a creative, I really relate with how Matt and Trey’s perspective on their best episodes has changed over time. They said the same thing about their Warcraft episode and were scared to air it, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that both of these episodes are experimenting with new/different techniques. Doing something new when you’re used to a certain routine with your work is always intimidating, and the result might not be what you pictured at the time, but sometimes your perspective on your work changes. Seeing two super talented professionals go through this is super validating.
"As a creative" 🤓

@@therabbitfollower5550 well your name is the rabbit follower so I guess a beagle idk
I wish they made a three-part episode special in this art style, where all the kids in South Park are anime ninjas.
That would be cool. Such a missed opportunity
The three parters are awful. Let it die
It was just so cute to me how the episode was basically only about kids playing together. Complete with the only real break in the game being when one of them actually gets hurt by accident
I loved the brief appearance of Chef in the anime style in this episode. Classic episode all around.
Let's fighting love is such a classic song.
The live concert version is pretty great as well.
2:54 I agree that South Park is at its best when it parodies childhood itself. There are lots of things we all (or someone we knew) did when we were kids and I love when this show touches on them.
The episode with the folding paper thing that "tells the future" and the Warcraft episode being two other good examples.
For YEARS I despised South Park, basically viewing it as Terrence and Phillip, but an ex of mine showed me this episode and I was SOLD. Now it's one of my favourite shows of all time, I carry a Kenny backpack to work whilst wearing my Professor Chaos trainers and I couldn't be happier my ex convinced me to give the show another try.
Why is it an ex though?

Season 8 might be the pinnacle of South Park as a series!
At least to me, I’m positive season 8 is the best (and there’s A LOT of amazing seasons btw)
Good times with weapons was actually the first episode I ended up seeing! I saw clips of it when I was 6/7 on RUclips, probably way too young to be watching that kind of stuff. Nice to see the episode getting some appreciation.
Seen this episode when I was about 10 or 11 but it wasn’t my first episode. That was Mr. Hankey and I guess I was only 8
This also happens to be the first South park episode I ever saw 😂
Truly captures the boys being boys. Using their imaginations to the umpth degree and it's absolutely one of the episodes I look forward to the most anytime I rewatch the series
As a 90s fighting game fan, I loved the fact that they referenced art from Super Street Fighter 2 and the Alpha games (namely 1 and 2) for the boys in this episode. Will always be one of my favourites. SFA2 Sagat/Professor Chaos was glorious indeed.
This episode and “Make Love, Not Warcraft” are probably my two favorite SP episodes of all time.
I remember this was the first South Park episode I’ve ever seen on vacation on the tv i forgot about it and now a couple years later it’s one of my favorite shows
I still can’t get over how funny the ninja star scene is, the second I clicked on this video I started giggling cause I knew you were gonna talk about it
Full agreement, love this episode. And the cut to Butters with the shuriken in his eye made me crease when I saw it the first time. Amazing.
I remember seeing this way back and laughing my ass off the moment i saw them imagine themselves as anime ninja with the music playing. Seeing the kids play with the weapons, is truly a callback to what every kid did growing up, It is hard to not see someone you once saw did that or you yourself did that at one point.
I am truly glad they brought back the animation for professor chaos whenever you make Paladin Butters use his ultimate move in Stick of Truth.
I think stick of truth does that well at the end with the government guy fully not understanding that they're just playing a game
One of my favorite bits in this episode is Butters as Chaos holding the pie with two fingers.
The next South Park game being in a Mortal Kombat style with the content of this episode being the focal point seems like a good idea.
Want
7:12 - J2C saying Tolkien's name correctly, will always get a chuckle out of me. ^^
I always loved this episode when I first saw it but I couldn't really fathom why, thanks to you now I do know! This is easily one of the best in the show, and considering how many episodes that are unanimously praised for commentary, comedy or character moments, I shouldn't use that lightly. But I'm sticking with it because this episode truly is a masterpiece for South Park.
I want the next South Park RPG to be based off the weapon characters
I’m a HUGE fan of your new graphic style! You don’t see many people take influence from stained glass art and I think it really comes together well.
Seeing what happened to butters was low-key traumatic as a kid
Season 19’s ninjas just couldn’t compare.
Naughty Ninjas is season 19 but facts

I'll never forget coming home super late one night many years ago, buzzed out of my mind. I was laying in bed watching Tv, and found South Park on, and it just happened to be _this_ episode. At first, I was like "What the fk is going on here?!" Then as it rolled on, I started laughing my ever living ass off at the way the episode was playing out. Then after the Ninja star plows right into Professor Chaos' eye, and it switches back to poor ole Butters, gawd I was dead!!!!!
This exact scenario basically happened to my dad in real life, except he and his brothers had wooden bows and arrows. And someone took the suction cup off the end of an arrow and aimed it and my dad's face.
The cut when butter gets hit and starts screaming made me and my friends laugh so hard that we missed 2 minutes of the episode.
You and Blooms were my best finds on 2024! Love the videos, keep up the great work!
Loved the casabonita vid!
I never thought much about south park lore, but its good to now look back on it and delve into this great writing, thanks for doing a great job of it!
Whenever someone tells me they haven’t seen South Park I show them this episode, it’s just a perfect episode.
Always been my favorite episode. Watched in the parking lot at red rocks before their 25th anniversary concert. Was so excited they played let's fighting love live!
This one was SO relatable if you played with friends outside as a kid. You got the one friend who keeps making himself stronger so he doesn't lose (Cartmen) and the one moment when you took it too far and someone actually got hurt (Buters) so you would immediately say something "shhhh" or "Don't tell mom! You're fine!". XDXDXD
Ive been watching it from episode one straight through. Made it to 12 yesterday and watched 8 last week. Seasons 8 to 12 seem to have the most memes from it
Season 8 is one of the superior seasons and a lot of fans love it. However, I’m going to warn you that the next 14 seasons aren’t going to be as funny (Although I was fond of season 13 and the Coon Trilogy) as those seasons
When I was a kid, I owned the DVD copy of the first season and I would have watch it over and over. It was a running gag at the intro to every episode that this one is Matt and Tre’s favorite episode, so this could possibly be one of Thier favorites but it’s probably part of the gag.
I love your analysis videos
I hope the next South Park game in the style of Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole will be themed around this episode
I loved the hard cut with butters with the ninja star I was shocked and almost died crying
I remember watching this as a kid when it dropped‼️Was one of my fave episodes ever then and still is now
I just watched this episode over again last week. Never gets old, lol. Even watching the clips in this video makes me laugh out loud. It really is perfect.
This episode is pure perfection! I remember the first time I watched it, I completely lost it when they try grabbing the ninja star out of Butters' eye. I honestly don't think I stopped laughing throughout the rest of the episode, so much so, that I had to rewatch it later that evening with my roommates so I could actually catch the full plot. I absolutely want a South Park game using this setting!
Dammit Johnny, I just got the song out of my head XD
😂😂 RIGHT. Try not to fall down the rabbit hole that I did the last time the song got stuck in my head which was actually watching anime openings that had been dubbed with let's fighting love
My personal favorite above this episode is Lil' Crime Stoppers and just seeing them deal with the police situation escalating until they just get fed up with it.
Great episode!
Using the Ninja powers setup for a third RPG style game would be INCREDIBLE. I'm so glad they didn't waste that premise on the non-RPG game they just released, so there's still hope for this.
Great video!
I so agree
6:53
Murphys law, eat your heart out.
Butters law is here
I have such fond memories of this episode. I agree its perfect and is one of my all time favorites.
Butters getting hit in the eye with a ninja star might be the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a tv shoq
I love the episode, the animation, the music, the fight scenes but I struggle to rewatch because of what happens to Butters, I just feel so sorry for him
I’ve never forgotten the lyrics to “Let’s Fighting Love” since I first heard it
"Hey kid that knocks you down."
"Nuh-uh"
"Yuh-huh I got you!"
Also if we do get that Ninja style in a South Park game it would work welll off of the professor chaos end scene from fractured but while as Professor Chaos is in this episode
Favorite episode. The moment when Butters, poorly dressed up as a dog, is actually mistaken as a dog by a human doctor is hilarious 😂
I love Let’s fighting love it’s peak South Park
This is in my top 5 if not my number 1. I cosplayed this version of Professor Chaos once.
Probably my favorite South Park episode, so relatable! (glad no one almost lost an eye when I was a kid having good times with weapons)
You're so right
You really had to be there for all the “Let’s fighting Love” AMV’s on RUclips in the early 2000’s
I'd absolutely LOVE a south park game in the visual style of this show
Reminded me of when my friends and I made "weapons" out of scrap lumber with my dad's power tools. We had this one friend that would always just go way to hard and long story short he broke my nose and we were all trying to figure out how to now get in trouble.
Season 8 was the first South Park season I saw and it made me love the show. My fav season
This is still one of my favourite or full on favourite episode of South Park. If there's one wish I have, it's to get a South Park game that takes inspiration from this episode. Preferably a fighting game.
the song at the end of ur videos is a bop
I was a young kid the first time I saw this episode, the star in the eye freaked me out so much and I remember kid me feeling SO bad for butters lol walking around with a star in his eye then the whole dog thing lmao
You're absolutely correct.
The next South Park Game should be anime themed.
This episode traumatized me when I was a kid and I think it's why I was so averse to South Park until I saw your videos
An RPG in this style or set in Imagination Land needs to happen!
Love this episode great video
Kyle agreeing with Cartman over killing Butters will forever be funny 😂
I think it’s funny how Kyle will go through extreme measures to avoid his moms wrath 😂
Butters screaming when he gets the Shuriken in his eye. Will always make me roll on the floor laughing.
This was the first episode of South Park I ever saw! I was at the local pool with my best friends and one of their brother’s watching it on a portable dvd player by the snack bar and I guess didn’t mind a couple of 12 year olds hanging out and watching with him. Wild times
“He he he he he he, now you are a chicken!”
This episode hit when I was in Middle School, everyone was talking about it for months and comparing episodes to it
Jimmy rockin' that *TOPKNOT!*
Is this the one cartman walks on stage naked thinking he's invisible? he comments right before it's shown 0:25
Yes
Have to agree, Good Times with Weapons or Casa Bonita would be my GO TO episode(s) to show to someone for the first time
HEY HEY LET'S GO!
KINKA SURU!
DAISETSU NO MONO
PROTECT MY BALLS
BOKU GA WARUI SO LET'S FIGHTING
LET'S FIGHTING LOOOOOOVE
LET'S FIGHTING LOOOOOOVE
No joke, this episode has helped me in my work with children on the Spectrum. I accept what they throw at me and don't ry to come out on top. It helps communication in that they see I understand what they're saying. I don't contradict them with whatever "powers" they have or overrule when they have too many (though I do let out a sarcastic quip). Then, sometimes, I gotta make them lose so they know how to follow rules other people make. Had one kid playing Rock, Paper, Scissors and waiting until the other kid threw his hand before throwing his own. No, no, no.
I can’t watch this episode because even though butters gets tormented often in this episode I just always start crying seeing him in so much pain
I can’t help but to cry laughing every time it shifts from their imagination to butters with the star in his eye. Reminds me perfectly of being a kid
Dude this fella always delivers on a South Park episode!
Anime Cartman's design actually goes so hard!
new vid dropped while I bing these videos? Hell yeah!
This was the first episode of South Park that i watched. I remember that i thought that all the episodes would be this kind of format. The kids decide what they want to play as for the day, and they get new alter ego's with every different adventure😅
Best take so far this episode is 🐐
