      You are a bit mistaken, after that statement, he immediately mentioned how the company was negligent (because they did not discovered the risk in 1950 before commercializing it) how it was a malpractice (making it addictive) all relevant for legal claim and only then he went with his silver tongue to invoke emotions. A mastermind writing coupled with a best actor putting reality to it.

    • @Bilbologna
      @Bilbologna Год назад +5

      He was using an emotional appeal mentioning how tobacco has affected someone they knew, and proceeds to use facts and historical context to present his case after acknowledging there’s no place for emotion. Yea he’s giving an impassioned speech but it’s not an appeal to the jury’s emotions. If he continued the previous line about folks they knew, then yea you’d have a point. You’re right about one thing, that it is indeed top-tier writing.

    • @ericdakh
      @ericdakh Год назад +1

      @@Bilbologna that’s hilarious you saying “not an appeal to the jury’s emotions.” It’s not a binary choice, it’s always a combination of emotions & facts, tone, facial expressions/body movements of everyone in the courtroom impact the jury.

      @Leo Peridot Cigar and cig companies aren't lacing their tobacco with carcinogens, that's not how it works, and if that were the case they would simply stop putting in those ingredients. Whenever you burn plant material into smoke and consume it at high temperatures, it creates alpha radicals that cause cancer. It doesn't matter if you do that with straw, tobacco, or weed, any consumed burned plant matter has the same carcinogenic effect. Some are worse than others, for example weed is far worse than tobacco because it contains almost three times more tar in the smoke. That's why I think its funny that people say smoking weed isn't harmful, when really its just a cope because they want to get high and don't really care.

    • @muppetarms14
      @muppetarms14 4 года назад +9

      Yep.... In Australia we have universal health care and the Government ignored the evidence until the cost of treatment surpassed taxes received from that industry... Even now it's the government is making the most gain raising taxes in the interest of public health that's nearing a point where even the most addictive personalities are merely priced out of the market.... Governments don't care whether we live or die it comes down to balancing income and expenditure in the budget!
