Download the BIOS file and unzip/extract it.
Then use the biosrenamer tool to convert it to the correct format.
Copy the file to a FAT32 formatted USB stick
Connect the main 24 pin power and 8 pin EPS power to the motherboard
Insert the USB stick into the BIOS flashback port
Switch on Power supply
Press the BIOS flashback button on the rear IO for 3 seconds
the Green led should flash slowly for a while, then speed up, then turn off.

Thanks this helped me test a motherboard while i didn't have my CPU. i feel more calm knowing that it was able to update at least.
glad to help
amazing thank you so much, literally saw your other video with another motherboard brand and thought theres no way he would make the video for my exact mobo. Legend!
Glad I could help!
Thank you Mike should be getting this mobo next week exactly what I needed! I cant wait to try this
Hope you enjoy it!
Excellent step by step.
Thank goodness it work, like you said if you already fully set up the pc do not change the files to cap just leave it as is.
Awesome video mike! This can be quite a daunting task without any guidance, but its fairly less 'scary' with your tutorial
thanks, i agree even though i have probably done almost a hundred of this by now it still makes me a little nervous
@@mikesunboxing deffiently still gotta be cautious every time lol, it's best not to rush too much as you are prone to make more mistakes and potentially mess up your system T-T
This guy is a life saver thank you very much for your very helpful video!.
Glad it helped!
So excited. Waiting on my new mobo to arrive tomorrow.
it is a great board hope you enjoy it
@@mikesunboxing hope so too. Already got my bios update ready and windows 11 downloading. 👍🏼
This video helped me a lot. Thank you
Glad it helped!
A very helpful video, just saved my day.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the most informative video 😊😊😊
So nice of you
I bought this Mobo + Ryzen 7800x3d today, Thanks for your guide, i will 100% Update bios with this method before putting my Ryzen in. This looks very easy, thank you for detailed explanation.
Glad it helped
Hi mate, is your build still going strong? :) im about to build the exact same combo ? :)
Thanks BRO! Just what I needed.. PERFECT!
Glad it helped!
Enjoy these bios updates after your tuition should not be intimidating task. Thanks Mike and Kath 🐈👍
thanks Nick
Good job! 👍
thank you
Mike's How to makes it all a little more easy. on the blood pressure 😀
Perfect content 🫵🤝
thank you very much
Thanks!
No problem!
You're the first guy to explain why the usb should be below 32gb. THANKS!
glad to help
@@mikesunboxingif it was 32gb is it fine?
@@nawafnawaf742 Yes that's fine 🙂
Hi Mike, Clear explanation, thanks for this.
Do you always have to do this with a new motherboard?
it is a good idea and good practice to do it as there are security and stability improvements that will make the motherboard better
Thanks Mike
Hi, Mike. It might be a good idea to leave the EPS cable attached when installing the motherboard. Especially if it's a smaller case. Those can be a real bear to do in a fully built system. I've had to remove top rads and fans more than once, so I've learned my lesson. LOL
Good idea! that is the real pain in the ass to wire up
Nice video man. I had a problem with DDR solid amber light after enabling EXPO (ryzen 7600x; radeon 7800xt; 2x16GB Gskill 30; TUG gaming b650m plus wifi). PC booted, I installed Win and all drivers, GPU, etc. Then enabled EXPO. System booted fine, I wanted to go to BIOS to see if RAM is running on 6k and it just went to solid amber after restart for DDR). Fans were running, but nothing else was happening - tired CMOS, reseating RAMs, 1 slot only, etc. nothing helped. Thankfully the flash revived the RAMs. Thank you!
glad it helped
thx 4u explain, i builing next week a gaming system with this board. Maybe you can make a video about the Bios setting (game). I am glad for this explain
Thanks for the idea!
Thanks! This was a great guide and i managed to reset the bios, sadly still stuck with a dram light.
Sorry to hear that. feel free to join the discord tech support for more help and advice
@@mikesunboxing I shall do that now. Thank you.
This tutorial is really helpful , what kind of USB do i need for updating the bios? can i use a 2.0 USB or do i need a 3.0 usb flash drive?
either should be fine
Super Mike, this is really smart. This is the way I'm going to do it. After that put in the chip and so on and run it again. That way I'm sure the mobo is ok. So if it fails after I put it in the case I know it's not the mobo, but i did something wrong with the cables
Yes that is my preferred method to flash the bios on an empty motherboard at least that way there is no other interference and if it doesn't work it means there is either something wrong with the usb stick or possibly the bios file
@@mikesunboxing ok, so then it's normal I had nothing on the monitor...Flash it again to morrow, and else take out the battery so it can return to the old bios?
@@mikesunboxing found it, everything works !
@@JanFarang Good to hear 🙂
Thanks for the video! If I have already a USB in FAT32 format, could I use that without deleting the existing content, and just copy the CAP file on it? Or would the BIOS not like that?
should be fine as long as the file is in the root of the drive
Thank you so much for the quick reply!
Hi, Mike. Were you able to solve the problem with the computer boot time when you enabled the EXPO profile in the BIOS?
yes it is all sorted now and boots very quickly, i made a video on it ruclips.net/video/ehuPTeqbi7E/видео.html covers all makes
I updated the bios on MSI H610M-E Pro with 8GB USB while the pc on
Hi Mike! Thanks for the video. I have this mobo and lately I'm getting a lot of blue screens. I have this computer since march of this year and I never update the bios. Should I update it? I dont know what else I can do to fix my pc.
These are my other specs:
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor
G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB DDR5-6000 CL30
Asus TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB
Asus TUF Gaming 1000G 1000 W 80+ Gold
yes update the bios, then turn on EXPO then context restore and also enable memory power down
Hello Mike, I was updating the bios and it took a long time and it did not happen. Should I disconnect the USB cable or the power supply cables first or what? Note that when I named the file with that renamer it appeared without .CAP and I added it manually. CAP now it is solid. What should I do? What should I disconnect first? Is there any damages ? please answer me as soon as you can
try without the RAM installed, that sometimes helps
Hello ! Just bought a Asus TUF X670E Plus, the way to install an updated bios in one of these models is exactly the same way ? thanks !
yes that is right
Thank you Very much for this video. ASUS's website is not very good at explaining how to do this. I spent hours trying to reinstall the bios after a crash never realizing that there was a button to hold to start the process on the IO Panel... DOH!
hope it is all working now?
wow.. 100000 is coming !
10 days i would say
hello mike.... few problems. I build it all, but when I flashed the mobo it blinkt a few times and then green....20 sec... so I think he did not recognize that stick? Anyways all the fans, work only three of them no rgb... but.... I put in a hdmi with monitor... and nothing !!!! Shit... any tips?

by the way, if you put everything in, chip and so on, and then test it the last time... Does the chip needs cooling at that moment? Or is it ok, because it has no work to do?
I would suggest resting the cpu cooler at least over the actual processor just to absorb some of the heat as these cpus can get very hot very quickly
Hi, I just bought the Asus TUF b650-plus wifi and i was hoping to use a 7800x3d on it, but it worries me that the ASUS boards have had problems with the cpus frying, if i update my motherboard to the newest bios like you did in this FANTASTIC video should i be safe?
:D
Yes it will
Thanks alot mate 😃👍
Just did the update, worked like a charm, though the BIOSrenamer named it TGB650PW AND MISSED OUT THE .CAP :D
@@dennishansen4001how did it go , is everything alright ? Bc I have same MoBo and CPU
comes the board with a BIOS pre installed, or do i need to install the bios like you show in the video?
it will have a bios on it but it might need updating depending on the processor you are planning to use
@mikeunboxing
Thanks SO much... Using the same motherboard, and have updated the BIOS per your directions (it worked).
Installed CPU and RAM (chosen from ASUS approved list), but the Yellow DRAM led remains when I power on the MB.... (2 G.Skill F5-6000J3238G32GX2-TZ5N; 2 X 32GB)
Wow - does this mean I've got a DRAM issue, or do I advance to include the SSDs and such to see what comes of it? Sad to think this "pre-check" leaves me failed already ;-)
Or does this DRAM light being on meaning that's as far as it got (e.g. could not progress to VGA because there is novideo card /etc)? Less than clear for me...
try one stick of ram at slot 2 and see what happens
@@mikesunboxing Thanks - tried that; moved this to your (awesome) Discord Tech Support 1. Again, very appreciative of your channel and support 🙏
Resolution (just to close this out).
I moved question to Mike's *awesome* Discord (Tech Support 1 channel), and summarized solution there.
In short, I didn't wait long enough for the self-test to complete and actually complete and validate the DRAM. And, the lack of a CPU does NOT immediately trigger the associated red Q-LED... it would I think eventually, but it doesn't start there.
Thanks Mike for patience and supporting the community here and on Discord.
@@dougl9758 Glad it got sorted out for you 🙂
Why are we still formatting a drive in Fat32, seems like very backward technology when you consider the might of the latest Motherboards?
very true. I suppose the BIOS flashback chips are done to the lowest possible cost, so modern file systems are not going to be cheap to integrate
@@mikesunboxing agreed, I still think that xFAT should now be introduced as getting hold of USB sticks that support Fat32 is becoming difficult.
Pressing that button was next to impossible on my Prime B650 Plus. Should it blink or is it just being on fine as well? It blinked at the beginning but now it's just there
it should blink for about 5 minutes. Solid means it has either ended or failed
Does the USB stick have to be in MBR format? Or does it matter
Thanks !!
yes it does and FAT32
checked this mobo i received, it shipped with bios 1811, is that one safe to boot with a 7800x3d?
yes but i would update it anyway for logofail
my Z790-Plus does not have the bios usb, will I be able do update without a cpu? I bought a 14 gen intel so I do not know if I will need a 13 or 12gen cpu to update.
looks like you will need a 12th or 13th gen cpu to flash it
ty!@@mikesunboxing
Can’t seem to get this to work followed all the steps. I’m trying to get tcp 2.0 to turn on and I assume it’s to do with the bios
what is tcp 2.0?
Why connect the 8-pin EPS? The manual says that the 24-pin power connector is enough?
Just something I have always done
@@mikesunboxing Alright, thanks!
Is this same thing u gotta do for the asus tuf 670e plus wifi
yes it is
It shows me the red light on the CPU. Can I flash the bios knowing that I have connected the RAM, the graphics card and the CPU? Answer me as soon as possible please
yes you can
Kinda need some help!
I build my pc, turned it on and got a post. But then, I turned it off.
And started to follow this instruction video. I accidently downloaded the wrong bios so the ligt didn't flash, but turned solid green.
Figured it out, downloaded the correct bios and after a couple minutes the light stopped flashing.
Plugged everything in correctly, started the pc. Fans are spinning the motherboard BOOT LED is green. But there is no display output. My screen just doesn't recognize anything. (My keyboard seems to be working, since the LED's are on.
Anything I can try?
if boot is on your pc works the problem is the gpu cable or the monitor
It seems so.
Thing is, i just tried a diffferent hdmi cable AND a different monitor.
Both gpu and MB outputs give nothing.
I reset the cmos.
Now it's working fine.😅
Thx for the reply! Much appreciated.
@@dennis2323 Glad you got it working 🙂
Can it work if my CPU is on the motherboard ?
I have a DRAM lighting up on this particular model and i'm trying to update.
ah he said you do not have to have bare board i was not yet arrived yet :)
DRAM light is either faulty or mis installed ram
maybe ram training
@@mikesunboxing thanks for the response
I was able to boot with only one ram using two no matter the setup (A2 B2 / A1 B2 ...) doesnt work
I've tried 3 different usb , but it doesn't seem to work the light keeps staying green :(
solid green? or flash a few times? solid means a fault in the build somewhere or a short
Great. Your Content is fantastic, but Out of 100 that’s SEO score 73.
thanks, i'll look into that, tubebuddy sucks sometimes
i followed all the steps. but the light is keeping green after flashing like 5 seconds. it is kind of weird. any solutions?
try another USB drive or check you have the right BIOS, the WiFi and non WiFi version at not interchangeable
For anyone doing this in a full built system, do not switch on the PC. ONLY the PSU!
yep very important
Glad someone mentioned that because I would hate to build a system and have to disconnect all of them cables just to update the BIOS. Except for the motherboard and cpu cables of course
What so you mean ,I am so confused , do not switch on the pc,what these means?
@@letmeecookbroooo don't update the bios while the system is running. Just turn on the PSU. Don't turn on the whole PC.
@@ArsevensX yup I get it,pc should be off just motherboard should run,ty for info bro
can i usb the thumb stick while on mac
that should be okay as long as you can format it and rename the file as per the video
Does that apply on rog strix b650-a ?
should be the same principle just a different bios file
@@mikesunboxing thx ❤️
Para ser honesto, a mi este método no me funciona muy bien, lo que yo hago es instalar todos los componentes y después instalar la bios, no se si solo me pasa a mi!! Saludos!! 😁
Mines flashing for a a minute of so then goes solid!
that means it can't read the USB or maybe the file
@@mikesunboxing yeah it didnt rename it with the .CAP so i thought id do it manually and it worked somehow lol.
Mine goes solid too how did you fix it?

@@mikesunboxingthanks I got it worked out
As far as I’m aware, you only need the motherboard 24pin cable. You don’t need the cpu power because there’s no cpu to give it any.
I wish all motherboard’s came with this feature.
good point, The ASRock and NZXT boards say only the 24 pin, you might be on to something there
@@mikesunboxing all other videos on this subject only use the motherboard power.
Mike told you how to flash it, i will tell you how to be successful about it. If you have any tuition, mortgage or bank loan and have a fear of something will go wrong and brick the motherboard; it will. They smell fear and stress and when it detects it is done and gone. Be relaxed, hell even threaten it by pouring a glass of water on it. Go do your laundry or cook your potatoes, dont care about update. If happened to be a lighting struck to your house, let it be! Just dont care! If you felt this way you will ve successful.
lol thanks for the motivational pep talk
I preffer to update my bios in the bios itself when thats possible ofc
i know what you mean
