I do love my Sunjoe. It chips anything, dry, under 1-1/2". Long branches will bitch slap you, stand back! I discovered that I can regrind finer and finer for mulching potted plants. Did I say I love this thing? Michael
I just bought this one. I had the 601 for 10 years and Snowjoe was exceptionally accommodating to send a new chipper every time mine quit working before the 2 year warranty was up. My question is: how to I change the blades on this one? I only mulched 3 bags and already it doesn’t want to cut anymore.
There were several things I didn't love about this model. 1) It doesn't actually create wood chips, as noted. They're more like pellets mixed in with some shredded material. 2) The little bag hangs too low and the cut up wood falls out. It needs a clip or something on the front to hold it. 3) It tends to jam in the bottom. I have to kick the little bag to clear the outlet and even still I often have to completely stop the machine to clear the outlet vent. Please unplug the device before doing this! Having said that, I worked through a 3ft wide by 6 ft long by 3 ft tall pile of brush in a couple of hours. I pushed some fairly large branches through it and it did work. The reason for the strident warnings is that if you bend down by the motor (like to fool with that stupid bag), it is quite loud and could hurt your ears. Also feeding smaller branches into this tends to be a bit messy, so turn off the machine before you get down next to it to clean up. I was really hoping to use this "mulch" in the flower beds but it looks like it needs to go through the compost pile for a bit.
Thanks for the great video. Has anybody figured out how to adjust that plate? The manual says to unplug it and tighten it while listening for friction and watching for aluminum shavings. I don't see how that can work if it is unplugged. Thanks.
The drawbacks I see on this unit compared to the Earthwise are there's no bowl on the top if someone wanted to do leaves. Also, a decent container for the end product would help.
Can you use this machine to break down pine bark mulch into pine fines or small nuggets? I'm having a difficult tome finding a reasonably priced shredder, mulcher, or chipper to achieve this. Thanks!
So is this faster than making a big pile and burning them or leaving it to rot? I'm skeptical. The thing about making a big pile is you can throw any size branch into it with all the sub braches connected and not think twice about anything jamming. And every single thing has subbranches poking out of it, everything.
Faster than rotting/composting, yes. For sure. Faster than burning, maybe not (although that takes time and attention too) but my main issue with keeping a waste pile became cosmetic. We did for many years just keep a large pile of wood waste and then burn once at the end of the season. Because we have more visitors here on the farm these days, we decided we needed a solution that dealt with the branches "as we go". It's worked well for that. It does take a little extra time added on to each pruning job to chip the debris, but then it's done and I don't have to "deal with the pile later". I suppose every system will have its pros and cons though.
Okay I have this one and I have no clue where to put the oil lubricant. I just bought it an assembled it. Any tips? It isn't in the manual either, but it came with oil.
I definitely need a chipper, especially out in the pasture, but I don’t have electrical outlets to plug in to. I would need a gas powered one I guess. My burn pile gets huge that in turn means a really big fire!
I'd love to get a wood chipper like this, but I'd only need to use it for about an hour a year. $200+ bucks for that just doesn't make sense. I might look into renting one instead. But thanks for the video. It inspired me to look into renting a model.
Do you use a leaf grinder/chipper to create leaf mulch (called leaf mould in UK I believe)? I would like to get one for my not-huge city garden. Sun Joe makes one, as do other manufacturers. I was hoping you’d trial some and advise on your results. 😊
I have the sunjoe leaf shredder. It can handle a fair amount of leaves but it does not do well with any twigs or ornamental grass. Inside it has a string like a weed whacker and the string will shear right off with twigs. Also, the leaves tend to get stuck and not want to go down the vent, I got a set of round leaf scooper tools that will let you safely push the leaves down without risking your fingers.
Just bought a SunJoe 603E woodchipper. Several questions--the unit has an accessory blade (states for a 601 model). This blade does not appear compatible with the 603 as the blade for the 603 is a large cyndrical affair and the accessory blade is a small three inch blade. Anyone know what's going on here? Sunjoe did not respond to my question and their email service states "do not use a blade incompatible with this unit". Second question--when I opened the compartment for the blade, a small metallic piece fell out (the piece is 2" long, rectangular and rounded on both ends. When I called SunJoe, was put on hold twice for 20 minutes each with the response being -- "no idea" what this is. Anyone know? It is not packing as I had to open the blade compartment to access this. Don't really want to send this back to SunJoe without at least trying this unit. Last question: all the videos show branches being shoved down chute one at a time. I have 11 debris piles of very small branches. Can I bundle these branches and send down the chute? If I send each branch/twig down the chute one at a time it would take 30-40 years to complete that process. Once again, when Sun Joe contacted regarding any/all of the above, no response or "I don't know". I miss the days when SunJoe had good customer service and workers who didn't live offshore. Any help will be greatly appreciated. da17mar@gmail.com
Hi Dale. I'll answer the last question about bundling wood, and yes, I routinely put multiple smaller stem through at a time, and so long as they don't exceed the width of the mouth, they actually feed through a little better together than individually. Sorry to hear it's been tough to get ahold of them... I don't know if I mentioned it here or elsewhere, but it did take me multiple calls (with long hold times!) to have them replace my machine's "two left feet" (wrong parts shipped with the chipper). They seemed overwhelmed TBH, but when I finally got the right person it all went fairly smooth.
so many long reviews where the individual says "well what else can i say about this..." never mention or show the shredding ability of the machine. I wish someone would throw leaves in there!
This and all the other electric chippers on the market aren't for shredding leaves. If you put leaves in, they'll just get stuck. For leaf mulching, you'll need a separate machine that only does leaves.

Thanks for the review. Really appreciate you showing us to cutting heads inside view.
2:06 LMFAO. I love how they added cupholders to this model.
lmao
I bought one of these 2 years ago. Worked for me for smaller branches etc.

Just bought this chipper. Excellent review, very helpful.
Just picked one up today. Thanks for the pointers!

Perfect instructional video, thanks!
Great video 👍🏽definitely need one of these👋🏽hello from zone 5🤗

thank you for such a thorough review!!
I got mine today, I used and I think thas it was a good investment.
Looks good but I wonder about longevity and is it possible to order those parts that would tend to wear down. ?
Fantastic video, thank you!

I use a cement mixing tub under the chute

Wallenstein and some others have ones that are rear PTO powered if you have a tractor with a 3pt hitch.
How does it do with grapevine?

Same price to purchase as to rent. Might as well own it so dont have to rent again next year or after storm damage to yard.
Hey Jason thanks for the review. I was wondering if you are still happy with the Sun joe CJ603E or have you found something different?

@@gardengearreviews Thank you for your prompt answer!
Nice 👍😁🙏

Thanks. I moved a decimal there!

You talk to much, just trough some branches to it and let us see how it works
