Every one of first star of the game Tony Esposito's 37 saves are necessary to preserve the Blackhawks' 3-2 win over Detroit. Only two teams (both of which had a .319 winning percentage) scored fewer goals than the Blackhawks' 241 in 1979-80, but thanks in large part to Esposito's efforts, Chicago finished the season with 87 points in the standings, their best showing in six years.
