Dude, I'm an old head but, before I was married I used to go to dive bars alone and chill. That was my mack, you'd be surprised how many women will come up to you especially if you are dressed like a gentlemen!

I agree. Women are intimidated sometimes by a big group of guys out together. And you have no guy friends to compete with and nobody to block your game.

Honestly, I've seen your previous video on going to bar alone and when I found myself alone at a rather big city in my country with the next train departing in 4 hours I've decided to go into a bar for the first time, especially alone haha. I've met quite a few people that day, much older than me (due to my young age) but I can assure anyone that it was worth it.

Of the categories mentioned here, the speakeasy is my favourite. Another category not mentioned is the bistro; two of my favourite bars (The Laundry in Wellington and Mish Mash in Penang) were bistros, offering good cocktails and food a cut above pub fare.

Love a good speakeasy, there's many in MN. These days, however, I've been frequenting so many Irish pubs. Namely because I'm gonna get Irish citizenship within the coming years.
And you're right! Like the song says,
🎶They've got one in Honolulu, they've got one in Moscow too. They've got four of 'em in Sydney & a couple in Kathmandu. So whether you sing or pull a pint, you'll always have a job, 'cause wherever you go around the world, you'll find an Irish pub 🎶

I've recently started frequenting upscale hotel bars and lobbies, specifically because I'm studying for some exams. They're open 24/7, and they always have a refined environment with drinks and some food. Also, sartorialism is more an expectation than an exception there. Great find

Great video! You left out my favorite place - the wine bar. Much like a cigar lounge, wine bars promote conversations between strangers with a mutual interest. It’s also very easy to offer a glass of a bottle you just purchased.

  • @CharlesNeuer

A fine video as always! But I do miss a particular kind of bar... the wine bar. I like well-made cocktails and my single malts. But I am quite the red wine guy. And at your usual bars you will not get a fine wine. I don't know about the US, but wine bars are pretty normal here in Switzerland /France/Italy. Every city usually have several of them.

Hotel bar when dressed for and conducting biz. You don’t look out of place, creepy or weird at one. Sports bar in any city in the US. Any sport any time I feel at home and included. The best part, I haven’t had a drink in 30 years still feel comfortable in these settings.

I’ll add another suggestion, a karaoke bar. Easy setting to break the ice and make friends, especially if you’re comfortable getting up there and singing. Made loads of friends at the karaoke nights at my local bar.

ROOF BARs are also a good alternative and they come with a view.
I work in NYC and seek them out from time to time. Many can be in the HOTEL category, but can offer an opportunity to enjoy a cocktail by yourself or with a friend or colleague.

I really like speakeasies and Irish Pubs but don’t forget about the cheaper alternative, the coffee bar! This isn’t one of those places where you sit and write, and it’s definitely not a Starbucks. These are more social and pretty much a bar but with high quality coffee instead of booze. I met my wife and many great friends at one of these.

I gravitate towards the higher class bars, mostly because I like the experience and great cocktails. For me, I like the speakeasy, the bar at a luxury hotel, and the cigar lounge bar.

Great post. I think it really depends on the person and reason. If it's a big game, the sports bar is the best option, followed by dive bar. I'm a fan of all but love a speakeasy or some place with a jazz or nice ambiance.

I have been to many bars solo. Not a fan of the dive but hotel bars are so cool. I don't drink know but I order a mocktail. Speakeasies like bourbon and branch in SF was fun. I knew a few in dtla. FYI I love the Bauhaus Posters. I know it is the school and not the band. There is a meme going around that says Postpunk band or Bauhaus students?

I mostly like the speakeasy or higher cocktail bar. Just a nice atmosphere to drinBest of course with live music. But an Irish bar, especially where they serve some food so you can stay for an after meal drink is amazing.

I like them all depends on my mood which one I’ll go to. But I like Cigars so I go to the cigar bar the most. Going to a cigar bars is just like you said. You have two things that connect you to almost everybody in there, cigars and booze.

Where I live, the speakeasy style bars lean a bit too heavy on novelty/theme for my taste and feel a bit too Disney-fake. The nicer hotel bars and steakhouse bars tend to have a great atmosphere that is good for solo visits.

    Good evening Sir,
I was wondering when a gentleman should rather accept a repayment for something that he lent or gave, so he doesn't seem overly nice, or refuse it because a given thing is not to be repayed ? Does it depend on the value of the thing ?
Thank you for all your contents

    2. Traditional tavern or pub.
I don't like hotel bars (I think they are boring and expensive), and I hate Sports Bars.

You need to get rid of that dry vermouth you had in another video (Martini-Rossi). Instead, get Dolin. If you’re in Chicago, you need to patronize your local Binny’s. The martini is essential to being a gentleman, so be sure to read Robert Simonson’s book.
