- Luke and Laura discuss the fact that he raped her 20 years ago. These scenes offer insight into why Laura forgave him and why Luke will always be obsessed with her.
Tony Geary and Genie Francis are wonderful in these intense scenes but any longtime GH fan can tell you that Luke and Laura actually discussed the rape many times right after it occurred. It was only after Luke and Laura became an incredibly popular pairing (after the first summer on the run) that the discussions were completely dropped and the official version became a seduction. In fact, the encounter was deemed a seduction only once on screen. Basically the issue was ignored for 20 years until General Hospital revisited this dark bit of Luke and Laura's history.

Ladies and gentlemen, the non-Emmy-nominated Genie Francis...
She’s always been a fantastic actress it’s hard to believe she didn’t receive many Emmys
@@labannaosullivan4601 Longtime GL fan here but I think it is for the same reason that Kim Zimmer won like 3 Emmys for playing Reva Shayne but her love interest Robert Newman (Josh) only one 1. In supercouples, one of the pair is usually the powerhouse superstar actor and the other half usually kind of reacts to the superstar. The powerhouse actor is so good and and larger than life you forget how good the other half is.
Feeling and emotions have. Come to life maybe perhaps it's fair to say and suggest that Laura was carrying on lot's of guilt and shame! Along with confusion about being rape and protecting Luke with his shameless behavior and when it! Came out openly Laura was hurt battered angry and which those scares resurface, and she probably felt that Luke never own too his personal responsibility for his reckless behavior wow this was a deeply emotional story line.
This episode was one of GH's finest hours.....
I wish ABC had the courage to do this back in 1982 or 83 in some way.
James Varela Between 1979-1980, Gh writers would play word game rape/making love . Laura explain in the scene why the confusion.
You know those are words she should have said to Luke 20 years ago.
orlandobabe Laura DID tell Luke he rape her but she went back and forth rape/ making love rape/ making love.
@@misshelloareyouthere that's because it was originally written as rape then they realised they had chemistry so they back peddled and called it a seduction but when you watch the original disco scene it's clearly rape
I still think her lips said “no” but her heat said “yes” she felt guilt & shame & mayb felt raped in way because she wasn’t ready. Happens a couple times after she kicked Luke out, he seduced her & she melted in his arms all the while saying “no”.
@@judithjerde1574 it wasn't the same on the night of the rape. She fought, she truly did not realize her feelings for him went beyond friendship, that the physical attraction was felt by Luke, and in his desperation and fear of death he thought part of her wanted him.
He never planned it, never meant her harm, and was horrified at what he'd done. It was definitely rape, but very confused and complicated for them both.
As he says by rights should have ended in the disco
Yes, rape is ugly and traumatizing!! But I think it's hard for people to wrap their head and heart around forgiveness. Forgiveness means different things to different people.
the closest thing they have is when luke tells lucky about what happened that night when he raped laura. they flashback to the scenes. type in "luke tells lucky"
genie incredible!!! She deserved an emmy!
Genie Francis is the most Underrated Actress on G/H very Gifted Talented Actress Since she was 17 age souls have Won Many Times💯
❤. Im..real confused. 4 11 24❤

❤. So beautiful....
of course, thank you..finally laura with a human reaction.
something is really wrong w this storyline...is this even humanly possible to be raped and marry ur rapist?
laura was just tooo nice....weak.....maybe this is all a part of her breakdown.
queenofspades84 I think it's both
It’s called denial
Yes. Women do sometimes marry their rapist. A few famous ones have.
Of course, lol i was just asking anyone do they have clip
it's weird nobody seems to have that clip
harsh harsh harsh... breatch taking
What year was this?💕
2006. .first time i seen this
@@PhilomenaRomagnoli-fv2eg Actually, it was 1998.
Why did they change the storyline just horrible lousy diff writer came in
The only change to the story was the "romance" it was written and shot as a rape and only later actually called and addressed as a rape.
What storyline change? I was around to see this all play out from the beginning. Many of us wanted L&L together BEFORE that "Night at the disco". We wondered when and how is it going to happen? There is sooo much film that was taped over and/or destroyed. The glances, stares, and flirting. We felt Luke's pain and need for her, and we watched her falling for him. How she explained it here is sooo perfect. Married very "Publicly" at only 17, and falling for Luke. As she said, I didn't know how to unravel all of it, or even admit I wanted too. So instead she dressed for Luke, stood to close, and said I only wanted to be your friend. She wanted him, but she was suppose to be happily married and have everything she wanted. Heck most of us knew that back in 1979, which is why we rooted for them.
I have watched since 1978. Love Luke n Laura. Personally I think this is how most of us saw it back then n likely why we accepted it. We knew Laura wanted Luke, we were just shocked when Gloria Monty took it to such n explosive level.😅
I am so confused by these scenes. Perhaps something happened that I missed through the years but you can verify that she tells Luke at the restaurant in 1980 or 81 that it was not rape. That when they returned from Beechers Corners everyone in that police station knew that she had lied when she called it rape.
ABC had a huge dilemma dealing with this subject when Luke and Laura became popular the writers had to do a lot of back peddling to redeem Luke which they did in various ways , One way was to try and portray the rape as a seduction then they turned Scotty into a dastardly villain. All and all it was largely a success but women's groups never let ABC off the hook and rubbed it in their face for years afterward.
rebornnoowami2013 I just watched that episode, where Laura tells Luke it was making love in the disco. ruclips.net/video/MkTSx-x4Bfs/видео.html
I excused the back & forth from rape to making love as Laura being confused herself about it! Especially the more she grew to care for Luke.
It's a scene with Luke telling Bobby he rape her, he said he was rough. I just saw it on Twitter.. I'm going to copy the link on here
I Remember That Too. I’m Confused Too. The Writers really screwed up. I Remember Volunteer work @a Rape Crisis Center &The Gurls Women Felt Everything but Love!!!! I Never Understood It?
