What a scene between Anthony and Jackie. I’m blown away the acting especially Luke explaining the rape to Bobbie. The emotions were palpable. So impressed.
So bittersweet. My Dad and I used to watch this and the Edge of Night every day after school for me, and work for him! We bonded over this, and it was lovely:)
I'm glad he admitted it to Bobbie instead of denying or minimizing it. He had his reasons (in his own mind) for forcing himself on Laura, yet he also knew it was wrong. His interaction with Laura when he brought her flowers afterwards in the hospital spoke volumes of denial from both of them. Some time later, Laura told Luke that she had wanted him back then, but she never said she wanted him by force. The storyline was difficult.
All Luke ever did was minimize it. He was drunk, he found out about the hit on his life and knew he’d be dead soon so he had to have her before he died. Years later when they spoke on it after Lucky learned the truth, Luke said “when it was over”which is him using distancing language from his actions. Laura immediately corrected him and said “you mean when you were done”. He then said “when I was done”
“He had his reasons for forcing himself on” her? Yeah. As teen girls in the 80s, seeing this kind of “romance” and women portrayed in music & “exercise” videos kinda f$&:ed us up
Thank you for clarifying. I was born in 1980. My babysitter watched GH lol I jumped in yesterday at their wedding episode and it got weird after that with her kidnapping ..then her skulking around watching everyone with that weird creepy song playing every time she was on screen - or even just her feet .. and Luke was the mayor .. lol GH is out of control even for 2023

Wow, the "80's"! I remember rushing home from school to watch GH. It was the only tv soap I could get into. I remember how the Luke and Laura story blew up so much that Elizabeth Taylor guest appeared!
The music, lol. One of the greatest soap storylines. I remember being at work in a hospital when Luke and Laura’s wedding aired. Every TV in every patients room was tuned in,and we all watched, patients and nurses alike.
Times were different. We knew it happened but seemed to not to be able to change anything yet and through shows and storyline like this atitudes started to change! The scenes were done well! Best actors for the subject!
Me too! My Dad just retired from the military and he started watching and gave me the updates if I got home late from nursing school. 🙂 He’s gone for almost 40 years and I just turned 65, this seems like forever ago but I will watch these now I love it!
I HAD NO IDEA, JACKIE ZEMAN HAD PASSED AWAY. I GREW UP WATCHING GENERAL HOSPITAL. GENERAL HOSPITAL WOULDN'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT BOBBY . MAY SHE REST IN PEACE 💐
My stepdad was a very hard worker. Never missed work until he had a heart attack. Had to be off of work for a bit. He hated soap operas before that. He took my Mom to an early dinner one day, but rushed her through dinner so that they could be back home before General Hospital came on (It was the day Laura was returning). My Mom said to him, "Are you serious? You finally take me out to dinner and rush me through it for this?" All of us kids and our Grandma (her Mom) thought it was hilarious...until she went on strike at home for a week. 🙄😂 Ahhhh...the good ole days 🤣
My Granddaughter is 15 and when I was her age I would run home to watch this. I don't think her Mom would allow her to watch it now. Also, I nursed my babies and I made sure they had to nurse during GH, so I could watch. RIP Jackie Zeman
They were such good actors, bringing such humanity, rawness, hurt and realness to a horrible storyline. I can imagine how the audience was knocked off their feet and hooked to every moment by the complexity of this. The actors are incredible.
Wow, his confession near the end is frightening. I think I actually remember that scene from years ago when it first came on TV. I wonder what Bobbie thought of all of this??
I was in a car accident January 1979’ and wore a cast from it. Naturally couldn’t go to work. My grandma lived two houses away so I’d get on my crutches and visit her well the first time I went there she was watching GH and I said, you watch this goofy stuff. lol she said, shhh watch you’ll get into it. Well soon I went and watched with her every day. My gf watched it too but I didn’t know till I told her about grandma. God I wish I could go back this instant. In January 1981’ I moved away and grandma died three weeks later. Great memories.

And I get the complexities, especially with the issue of date and marital rape but that wasn’t the case here. One Life to Live ended up doing a terrible job with a storyline dealing with the subject matter too. I will say they did a better job with the characters of Lucky and Lulu when they learned the truth. That was more realistic.
The song they are playing@3:11 by France Jolie was one of my favorites at that time. It's funny that Laura is looking so much like her in this scene. They were about the same age, which was 16 or 17.
I 'm glad he admitted it to Bobbie instead of denying or minimizing it. He had his reasons for forcing himself on Laura, yet he also knew it was wrong. His interaction with Laura when he brough her flowers afterwords in the hospital spoke volumes of denial from both of them. Some time later, Laura told Luke that she wanted him back than, but she never said she wanted him by force. The storyline was difficult I don't know how so many people were okay with turning this character in to a hero .
Well ok if you have to put it that away....Although it is only a soap opera... We all have to admit the people who played these characters are excellent. I don't know if any of these actors could have done as good or great as anyone else. The actors fit the part of each and every character that they had played... They are the BEST EVER.. Not a one I know could have then any better. I love each a everyone of them JMVHO! Peace & much love & respect Rosie.
I guess you had to be there in that time of a certain age to appreciate the excitement and fun of the disco craze. It was bananas. Too bad it wore itself out and a backlash ensued. I remember that music fondly.
I used to run home from school and watch this my Dad would let me and i lost my Dad as a teen a year later.. whenever i watch this or see her i always remember Luke & Laura...goes by in a blink sometimes you think wow so long ago..then you realize its a flash
So this conversation about him being upset she isn't pregnant and his reaction about her being pregnant with Lucky and LuLu, totally contracts his stance on wanting kids later. They showed he loved his kids, but often wished he never had them. I hated those parts
Loved this show especially the Rick Weber/Monica Quartermaine story line…I was team Scotty and abhorred Luke. I remember the Cassidines, Elizabeth Taylor and “the left handed boy”! For years, anytime I heard the “rape song” in a club I wanted to throw up…Christopher Cross cleaned it up with “Longer than….”
They ruined Herb Alpert's song. It's a nice song, but it will forever be the "rape song". If I was him I would have been very angry at GH for that. They should have not used any music.
My dad would cringe when he’d come home & I’d be watching GH😂!! And then, I did it!! I got my dad hooked on GH🤣 But, he’d NEVER ADMIT IT!! IT WAS SOOO 🤔 SATISFYING!! My mom watched GH from day 1!! And, she got me hooked on it!! GH continues being forward in REAL LIFE situations. I still watch it to this day…& always will!! R.I.P. JACKIE🤍🕊️🪽 THANX FOR ALL THE MEMORIES YOU GAVE US!! I remember how much I loved GH and never missed an episode, but when they played out this whole ridiculous rape story and turned it into a romance...that was it for me. There aren't words to describe how wrong it was.
I think at the time, they didn't realize the chemistry between TG n GF n so the storyline went from there, I think they tried to portray it kinda like a seduction
If you'd kept watching you would have seen years later when their son Lucky found out about the rape. It forced Luke and Laura to actually come to terms with it. The scenes between the two discussing the events was some top notch acting. You can find that storyline here on youtube.

The dramatic music! I don’t remember that 😂😂 I remember everything else though 😂😂
Move On Up by Curtis Mayfield is an undisputed CLASSIC.
The storyline was difficult I don't know how so many people were okay with turning this character in to a hero .
what were his reasons?
The music is hysterical. My husband and I remember this and more.
It was the 80's
I don’t know how so many people were okay with turning this character in to a hero.
I agreed
And have Laura love and marry him.
What was sick was that he wanted Laura to be pregnant by him...from when he raped her!
Right, me either!
I was six years old when this came out. I remember this storyline as if it aired yesterday.
The background music 😅😂😊
The disco, or the cheesy, campy soap opera music? Or BOTH, lol!?
@@stellarocquie7957 well first it was the cheesy soap music. But the Disco makes a close second LOL.
I guess you had to be there in that time of a certain age to appreciate the excitement and fun of the disco craze. It was bananas. Too bad it wore itself out and a backlash ensued. I remember that music fondly.
@@tinaxykis4172 I WAS THERE. I remember this scene. And I loved Disco. But that's not what this is. It's that 70's background.
OMG .. I was glued to it.
I used to run home from school and watch this my Dad would let me and i lost my Dad as a teen a year later.. whenever i watch this or see her i always remember Luke & Laura...goes by in a blink sometimes you think wow so long ago..then you realize its a flash
I grew up watching this. I’m 48 but remember this. Also Sonny, Jason,Jax, Jagger, Stone, Robyn, Brenda etc….
I lived every day to see GH during the summer when I was a teenager
Soaps were the best in 80s ... My grandma and I watched this together with her client. 😢
So this conversation about him being upset she isn't pregnant and his reaction about her being pregnant with Lucky and LuLu, totally contracts his stance on wanting kids later. They showed he loved his kids, but often wished he never had them. I hated those parts
They ruined Luke in the end.
Yeah the writers rewrote history. Just ignore the rewrites. He wanted kids and was excited having kids!
It saddens me that I never watched this soap. Was real big on days of our lives, another world and guiding light
Luke had the mother of All comb over’s
My dad would cringe when he’d come home & I’d be watching GH😂!! And then, I did it!! I got my dad hooked on GH🤣 But, he’d NEVER ADMIT IT!! IT WAS SOOO 🤔 SATISFYING!! My mom watched GH from day 1!! And, she got me hooked on it!!
GH continues being forward in REAL LIFE situations. I still watch it to this day…& always will!!

THANX FOR ALL THE MEMORIES YOU GAVE US!!
FEOM MY FAMILY, TO YOURS…. OUR DEEPEST, MOST SINCERST CONDOLENCES ♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹
I believe that yes he did something very bad and wrong the character of Luke Spencer had human side not like the rest of the mob and frank Smith.
These two Actors are Phenomenal Best actors on the show back then. And genie Frances just starting out and so young👏 miss Anthony Geary so much &Jacklyn Zeman you will be Greatly Missed RiP❤️
But wait....Laura don't be too hasty! You and Luke aren't quite done yet. The story isn't over!
@@MaryEverling I think you may be right but I really wish they had been more creative and found a better way.
@@crystalmeier6579 Well that was then, this is now! Times have definitely changed
If you'd kept watching you would have seen years later when their son Lucky found out about the rape. It forced Luke and Laura to actually come to terms with it. The scenes between the two discussing the events was some top notch acting. You can find that storyline here on youtube.
@@robertlanier2235 yes I remeber them, very emotional
And he thought Laura was pregnant from the rape. Loved how he handled her trying to tell him she was not.
We would leave high school at 1:45 ditch 6th period to go to our friends house whose parents were at work and watch General Hospital, we didn't have a VCR at that time !
Excellent writing!!!
The wedding of the century. I couldn't wait to get home to find out what happened that day
Nothing can compare to this in any soap opera. Ever.
Rest in Peace Jackie you were so beautiful!❤️✝️🙏
Hey there! I came across your comment and I just had to reach out and say hi. Your perspective really caught my attention and I would love to get to know you better. Would you be interested in chatting sometime? Looking forward to hearing back from you! 😊
I used to watch this all the time...44 yrs ago..Wow
